4ydrochloric acid is a rea(ent used in or(anic reactions2 and is a stron(2 corrosi%e acid.Researchers should wear lab coats2 (lo%es2 and safety (o((les or safety (lasses with sideshields when handlin( hydrochloric acid. 8ll worA with concentrated hydrochloric acid should bedone inside a fume hood. 8s a rea(ent2 hydrochloric acid may be used in ;uantities of "mL upto "L2 and across a wide ran(e of temperatures. hen worAin( with concentrated hydrochloricacid2 it is important to maAe sure the worA area is free of any bases as these may react %iolentlywith the acid. 't is also common to prepare dilute solutions of hydrochloric acid for use as

rea(ents2 or for worAin( up or(anic reactions. hen dilutin( hydrochloric acid with water2 theconcentrated hydrochloric acid should be added slowly to water to minimi5e the e@othermicnature of the reaction and any dan(ers from splashin(. 8ny solutions which contain hydrochloricacid should be disposed of as ha5ardous waste after reactions are complete. 4ydrochloric acidshould be stored in a secondary container inside a desi(nated corrosi%e cabinet. 8dditionally2hydrochloric acid should be stored in a separate area from any bases due to the dan(er of ane@othermic reaction if allowed to mi@. 8lso2 hydrochloric acid should be stored away fromo@idi5ers since mi@in( can lead to the (eneration of chlorine (as.
