HydroStar Veristar Family Software

HydroSTAR is an advanced hydrodynamic software. It benefits from more

than 25 years of development and is continuously updated and improved

to raise technological challenges. HydroSTAR has been extensively tested

and validated through comparison with semi-analytical studies, numerical

results from recognized tools and experimental data.

SEA-KEEPING ANALYSIS SOFTWARE

Hybrid Diffraction / Morison model

Theoretical basis

• Fairly perfect fluid (dissipation introduction)

• First-order and second-order potential theory

• 3D Boundary element method (panel method)

• Most efficient algorithms for associated Green functions

• Deep water and finite-depth water

• Encounter frequency approximation for forward speed

• Frequency domain

Main inputs

• Hull geometry represented by flat panels

• CoG and mass distribution associated with loading conditions

• Wave data defined by frequencies, headings and amplitudes

• Additional viscous damping, inertial and stiffness matrices

• Forward speed

Main outputs

• Automatic cut of full mesh according to loading conditions

• Added Mass and wave-making Damping

• Motion, velocity and acceleration at any point of floating bodies

• Wave pressure distribution and detail components

• Wave elevations around bodies

• Hull Girder Loads RAOs

HydroStar deals with side-by-side configuration as it handles multi-body

interactions. Moreover, it benefits from an efficient way to introduce fluid

dissipation which is critically important to get realistic prediction of resonance in

the gap between two ships. The whole method has been validated through

model tests.

Dynamic coupling between liquid motions in internal tanks and the ship motions

is handled by HydroStar. This is particularly important for LNG-FPSO and

FSRU whose motions are significantly modified by the coupling effect.

Generalized modes calculation: HydroStar is able to solve the hydro-dynamic

problem on user defined modes. This is a crucial step towards hydro-elastic

calculation (see Bureau Veritas hydro-structure tool Homer2).

HydroSTAR is conceived to enhance

technical excellence and productivity.

It brings together numerous

advantages and functionalities to meet

high-level requirements:

• 1st order (Linear) and 2

nd order

radiation/diffraction (3D BEM)

• Introduction of fluid dissipation

effect with calibrated coefficients

• Middle-field formulation for

accurate computations of second-

order loads

• Second order loads in multi-

directional waves

• Mixed Panel (Diffraction) / Stick

(Morison) model accounting

nonlinear drag forces

• Springing analysis (generalized

mode capability)

• Wave-current interaction to

evaluate wave drift damping

• Multi-body interactions with

different mechanic connections

• Comprehensive spectral analysis

including short/long term

predictions, operability criteria,

advanced equivalent design

waves, etc

• Air gap analysis, green water &

slamming occurrence estimation

• Dynamic effects of liquid motion in

tanks

• Account for resonant effects of

moonpool with viscous dissipation

• Forward speed (encounter

frequency approximation)

• Account for confining effect of

side wall in wave tanks

• Fluid kinematics, vessel motion

and dynamic pressure animation

• Automatic Mesh Generator for

most conventional geometry /

mesh cutting following loading

conditions

• Fast calculations with efficient

algorithms

• Multi-threaded (MPI) to reduce

computation time

HydroStar is supported by teams of experienced engineers and

developers who use the software daily. Local technical teams are set

around the world in order to provide you with the most adapted services.
