Hydrostatic Testing - Products   Additives, alternate fluids or color change developers can improve the speed and reliabilityof liquid leak testing. They can also increase the sensitivity of the test results. The number 

in parentheses after each product description indicates the paragraph in the ASTMStandard E1003 with which that product complies. 

Water Detecting Powder (PiNPOiNT WDP-217): This is an aerosol color change developer, which, whensprayed on the points of suspected leakage (joints, welds,connections), forms a white powder. Through capillary action, ithelps draw water through leaks, spreading an indication tomake it more visible and then it undergoes an irreversible blue-green color change indicating the exact point of seepage. The

coating is non-toxic and can easily be removed with a dampcloth. WDP-217 should be used only when the temperature of the surface is higher than the dewpoint or the humidity is lowenough to prevent condensation from causing false indications.(ASTM 9.3.2.1 Visibility Enhancer).More Information 

Tracer Dyes (RT-200 or FT175):These tracers are concentrated, immediately miscible liquiddyes, operating in either the visible or fluorescent mode.Developed for water systems study, these tracers are ideal for leak testing large systems or pipelines. Both formulas arebiodegradable. RT-200 is diluted four ounces to 500 gallonsand FT175 can be diluted up to one ounce per 1000 gallons.(ASTM 9.2.2.2 & 9.3.2.3 Visibility Enhancers).More Information

Surface Tension Reducer (Immersit ClM150 & CIM200): This concentrate, when added to water, in the ratio of 5% to

25% greatly decreases surface and interfacial tension causinga much greater volume of water to flow through a leak. CIM-150 is biodegradable and inhibited to prevent rust. CIM-150Ahas a much stronger rust inhibitor. CIM-200 has a wider temperature range. (ASTM 9.3.3 Lower Flow Resistance).More Information 

Water Soluble Tracer (FA-1A):This concentrated liquid tracer contain corrosion inhibitors,surface tension reducers and water soluble powders which dryon the outside of a leak developing the exact point of leakagelong after the water evaporates. FA-1A is yellow fluorescentwhich is easily visible without a black light when dry. Thisconcentrate should be diluted one part concentrate to between25 to 50 parts water. It is chelated to perform in hard water.(ASTM 9.3.4).More Information

F-trace (Concentrate): This hydro tracer is available as a concentrate which should bediluted to a maximum of one part to 1,000 parts water or canbe supplied as a ready-to-use fluid. Originally developed toleak test the fuel tanks, it is a biodegradable, highly fluorescent,low surface tension vehicle, which produces excellent results. It

is not inhibited to prevent rust on carbon steel. It has lowsulphur and halogen content for use on stainless, nickel andmagnesium steels as well as on aluminum and most plastics. Ablack light, AGC Part #L102 will be required to see mostindications. (ASTM 9.3.4)

Fluorescent Penetrant (FL50):This is a highly fluorescent (MIL-I-25135 group VI +) water 

washable penetrant which can be diluted with up to 30% water to provide a very sensitive, easily removable, low cost hydrotest fluid. (ASTM 9.3.3 & 9.3.4) 

Ultrasonic Leak Detector (Sonic 3000):This detector can quickly and easily spot leaks as small asIx10-2 std cc/sec. This is a decade smaller than required by the ASTM standard. The Sonic 3000 can be used either withpressurized air or with its sound generator as an alternate tohydrostatic testing. It can be conveniently used as a quickprecheck before the more time consuming hydrostatic test isperformed (ASTM 10 Pretest).More Information

Fluorescent Oil Additive (FAO-109):This highly fluorescent concentrate can be added to oilsystems in the ratio of I part to 50 parts. It is invisible in

ordinary light but fluoresces strong yellow with black lightillumination. The Portable AGC Black Light is Part # L102. TheFAO-109 can be used to pinpoint leaks in hydraulic lines,engine crankcases and shock absorbers. (It is equivalent insensitivity to ASTM 8.3.2C).More Information

Dye Fuel Additive (RD-58): Meets the requirements of MIL-D-81298 and Air ForceTechnical Manual T.O. 42BI-1-10 (1970) for use in detectingJP-4 fuel leaks. The 58 series dye will mix with allhydrocarbons and many other fluids. It is particularly useful for checking leaks near hot sections, where the high temperatureprevents the fuel from leaving a wet spot. When the dyed fuelevaporates, a residue is left as an identifiable leak indication.More Information

Oil Detecting Powder (ODP-210): ODP-210 forms an opaquewhite powder coating when sprayed onto welds, joints, fittingsand other areas, of an oil containing system, which may besusceptible to leakage. A highly visible stain develops on theODP-210 coating at points of oil leakage. ODP-210 can beeasily removed by wiping with a damp cloth.More Information

Color Change Oil Detecting Powder (PiNPOiNT ODP-110) ODP-110 brushes on to joints and fittings to form a whitedeveloper type coating. When any hydrocarbon based fluidleaks the coating changes from white to red. It can be easilyremoved by wiping with a damp cloth.More Information
