Read and take notes: The more you do over summer, the easier it will be during the school year. All of this is requiredreading. Do it over the summer or do it during the school year. The choice is yours. Choose wisely. Media Centerbooks will not likely be available over the summer.Linked here is the schedule from last year (2020-2021) Paper 2 Classwork and Homework Schedule, Paper 1Classwork and Homework Schedule. I have linked the schedule so you can make informed decisions. If you know aparticular quarter or semester is busy with theater, sports, band, etc, then look at the schedule to see which notes youshould do ahead of time. That way you only have to review them when the time comes.
II. Paper 1 Rights and Protests (1 book); US Civil Rights 1954-1965, Apartheid South Africa 1948-1964. If youcan afford to buy your own, you should. We will be using the whole book and supplemental materials as well.You can find used copies for a reasonable price at the end of the school year as students who had to buy theirbooks are looking to off-load them. The longer you wait, the more expensive they become as there are fewercopies available and demand increases.
III. Paper 2: Authoritarian States (2 books); Nazi Germany from its origins at the end of WWI through the end ofWWII and Communist Cuba from its origins in the Spanish-American-Cuban War through 2000. TheAuthoritarian States Charts are more so intended to be a place to summarize to use for studying, after takingregular notes.
A. On the Origins of War by Donald Kagan, selected portions - If you can afford the few dollars it costs tobuy a used copy, I would recommend that you do so that you can mark in it.
B. A History of Latin America by Benjamin Keen and Keith Haynes, selected portions. If you want to buyyour own used copy, they can be found for a few dollars.
