Message from Father Robert: This Thanksgiving will be a difficult one for many families because there is going to be a significant empty seat, and in some cases seats. For others it is going to difficult because they may have to say to their family “I cannot be there this year” because certain states have imposed new restrictions may have to quarantine upon return, or due to an overabundance of caution decide to stay home for their health and wellbeing. Even in this situation we still give thanks to God. St. Paul says “Rejoice always, pray constantly, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” (1 Thess. 5:16-18). The Will of God is our salvation and come to the knowledge of truth so as not to lose hope or fall into discouragement. One of the things that I was amazed to find out was that many people here come to Mass on Thanksgiving. Due to the twenty-five percent capacity rule the regular morning schedule will be in effect: 8:00 a.m. Mass in Italian and 9:00 a.m. in English. There will be adoration and benediction of the Blessed Sacrament following Mass until 11:00 a.m. The church will close immediately after Benediction and there will be no Mass at 7:00 p.m. Also the rectory office will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday. Unfortunately, we received sad news this week as we learned of the death of Fr. John Conti who served here for many years as parochial vicar. He died at the age of 99 and at his age did not slow down; if he was not in New York, he was either in Italy or Australia visiting family or serving the people of God to the best of his ability. We will have a Mass for him on Wednesday November 25th, 7:00 p.m., please remember him in your prayers. In addition, please remember in your prayers the sick and elderly who may be homebound this Thanksgiving as well as college students in dorms who may not be able to go home if they are quarantined. On behalf of Fr. Urbano, Msgr. Becker, Deacon Santos, and myself: a happy Thanksgiving to you and your families. God bless.
