Protocol to the ICCPR and Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment of

Punishment. The keys issues is to abolish the death penalty and an examination.

20-21 June 2012 : Parinya Boonridrerthaikul, Amnesty International Thailand director participated in 5th Regional

Consultation on ASEAN and Human Rights in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The Consultation was organized by the Asian Forum

for Human Rights and Development (FORUM-ASIA), the SAPA Task Force on ASEAN and Human Rights (SAPA-TFAHR) and

Suara Rakyat Malaysia (SUARAM). The Consultation held back to back with the official consultation meeting of AICHR with

civil society organizations on the ASEAN Human Rights Declaration on 22 June 2012 in Kuala Lumpur. Hence, the

consultation provided an avenue for civil society organizations to make preparation in relation to the consultation meeting

of AICHR. At the end of consultation, we were able to produce A civil society joint submission to AICHR on the ASEAN

Human Rights Declaration (AHRD).

21 June 2012: Amnesty International Thailand has welcomed a

teacher and students of Stenden Rangsit University’s International

Protocol and Diplomatic Studies (IPaDS) minor. Talk and

discussion in information on the activities of Amnesty in Thailand

and the themes we address in this year, abolish the death

penalty, freedom of expression and corporate accountability.

29 June 2012: Sineenart Muangnoo, a growth Mobilization Coordinator

attended the seminar, “the role of university and the promotion of human

rights in southern area” that co-organized by Human Rights Lawyers

Association, Thai Volunteers Service Foundation, and The Social Integration

Center in Deep South, Faculty of Humanities and Social Science, Thaksin

University. Its objective is to recognize the importance of human rights

course which all related organizations should be involved to decide the

clearly target and in the direction consistent with all system, including the

role of university to promote the respect of human rights in this region.

เนสต อนเตอรเนชนเนล ประเทศไทยเปน 1ใน 4 องคกรประชาสงคมจากประเทศไทยทไดเขารวมการประชมน ซงแตละประเทศมเวลาประมาณ 15 นาทเพอซกถาม

ขอสงสยและก าหนดถอยค าอยางเปนรปธรรมส าหรบปฏญญาดงกลาว ส าหรบองคกรแอมเนสต อนเตอรเนชนแนล ประเทศไทยนนไดซกถาม และน าเสนอประเดน

22 June 2012: Parinya Boonridrerthaikul, AI Thailand Director attended the 2nd Regional Consultation on the ASEAN Human Rights

Declaration which organized by ASEAN Inter-governmental Commission on Human Rights in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Amnesty Inter-

national Thailand was 1 among 4 selected civil society groups from Thailand to attend this consultation. Each country had 15 min-

utes in raising their concerns and provided concrete language for the Declaration. AI expressed the concerns and suggestions on

1. AHRD should not lowering than UDHR, Vienna Declaration and Programme of Action or international law subscribed to by member

states 2. We proposed the deletion of any provision for “balancing rights and responsibilities” 3. We proposed the deletion any provi-

sion imposing overarching limitations on the totality of the rights provided in the draft 4.We proposed the deletion of any provision

that includes “taking into account national and regional particularities.

night with slide show and talk on “Youth of Death Row” , Tuesday July 17, 2012 at Mahidol University, Nakhon Pathom

The Japanese professional photographer, Toshi Kazama, will show his photographs of young people on death row and

tell their stories. For more than eight years he has trod a way of compassion to photograph young people who are

condemned to death. The images have a stark simplicity, taken in black and white. They are not posed, and examine

them how we may, we cannot find any mark of Cain upon them. He will be introduced by the Union of Civil Liberty, and

Amnesty International Thailand, who are campaigning to end the death penalty in Thailand.
