DESCRIPTION

Before I begin the study of the End Times and of Christ's Return itself, it seems both fair and wise to list my assumptions. Forewarning the readers fairly orients them to the basics of my approach or, in some cases, wisely warns them off the study entirely. Boring stuff? Maybe. Essential stuff for a well-ordered study? You betcha!

I. MY ASSUMPTIONS:

Here find listed some of my assumptions about prophecy and God’s Word. I want these posted up front, not lying in ambush somewhere.

Here you may also gain notice of the role I want these assumptions to play in your handling of this study.

Thirdly, I pose a key question: Who’s ‘you’ in the Bible?

SlideShare’s hyperlinks won’t work until

Slide #4–something to do with spam prevention, so . . . this is a filler designed to accommodate that

necessity. This is my “cute kitty” pose #32, a shamelessly

manipulative ploy.

# 1: THE BIBLE ISGOD’S INFALLIBLE WORD

All of it-not just the parts I’m comfortable with or the parts I think I understand.

I’m not out to prove the Bible’s accuracy or reliability- I assume its accuracy and reliability at the outset of our study.

You will no doubt encounter numerous encouragements to embrace this notion of biblical infallibility along the way, but these encouragements are incidental.

#2 THE BIBLE IS GOD’SLIVING WORD

The Holy Spirit is the Chief Revealer of the Bible’s truth to each individual.

Scholars, commentators and Sunday School teachers are Invaluable Auxiliary Guides to the Bible’s truth, not replacements for the Holy Spirit in your heart.

I believe God does not require a deep historical knowledge of how original hearers might have understood a biblical passage before we, too, can understand it. The Bible is God’s LIVING Word!!

#3 I’M A PREMILLINNARIANSay What?

That means I think Christ intends a physically perceptible thousand year earthly reign upon His return.

I don’t intend to argue this point-I shall assume it at the outset. Nevertheless, I do some extensive analysis of why I believe this in one of the presentations.

#4 THE GOD OF ISRAEL IS A COVENANT KEEPER

God made promises to Abraham, Isaac and etc: These promises continue in force.

The Jews play a key prophetic role as we approach Christ return.

I assume this ongoing role from the outset-I’m not intending to prove it, although I do give an analysis of why I believe this.

#5 THIS STUDY IS A RAPTURE-FREE ZONE

My belief regarding the timing of the rapture does not play a significant role in this study although I do advance one of my most treasured reasons for believing as I do.

My chief purpose consists of providing you with a context for investigating on your own whether the Church will avoid the Tribulation or not. I’d much rather you take my fiddly bits of information and odd points of view and do your own prayerful wrestling with the issue.
