From entire families of bonded labourers in India’s brick kilns, to citizens forced by the state to pick cotton in Central Asia, to overseas domestic workers in the UK, safeguarding workers’ rights is one of our founding principles.

Over the decades, our global advocacy with the UN and the ILO has helped secure decent work, wages and conditions for millions of individuals. Take action today:

Will you bring the anti-slavery movement to your Trade Union branch?

Affiliating your branch and becoming a member are two powerful ways you can support our work, raise awareness and stand in solidarity with workers around the world.

With the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, the country is on track to organise the bloodiest sporting event in history. Throughout the Gulf, the ‘kafalah’ sponsorship system leaves migrant workers vulnerable to exploitation and abuse. Anti-Slavery International provides migration awareness training and support to migrant construction workers from India and Nepal.

Domestic work is often invisible, undervalued and underpaid, leaving women and children particularly vulnerable to slavery. Anti-Slavery International supports domestic workers with information on labour and human rights, helping them to organise collectively and provide peer-to-peer support in countries such as Peru, Tanzania and Lebanon.

I lived out in the desert, in a shed with a tarpaulin roof. I was given basic food, it was not enough. It was some

rice, dahl, also the same food as the animals, animal fodder. I was not allowed to leave the farm. He took my passport. I couldn’t go anywhere without it. Luckily, I met a worker from India nearby – he leant me his phone and I messaged my family for help.

I didn’t get any wages at all. I had mortgaged my farm land for this.
