Proclaiming the Gospel to the Lost and Developing

Christ-Centered Lives

Bits & Pieces … Odds & Ends … This & That …

I have several things I want to “talk about” today. So here we go.

Real Faith for the Real World. This Sunday we will begin our study of the book of James. Each Sunday I will be preaching from a section of James. In addition to the Sunday morning preaching, each week there will be Sunday school classes and small groups going through additional material from that same section of scripture. If you are not already involved in a Sunday morning class or a small group, this would be a great time to begin.

The epistle of James is a very practical book. It was written to help us understand and overcome the conflicts we face in this journey as we seek to follow Jesus. Each and every day we are confronted with choices – knowing not everything that comes along will bring honor and glory to Christ. Therefore, we examine our lives in the light of God’s Word. James states practical principles, while offering thought-provoking illustrations. I’ve been working and praying for the last couple of months. I’m excited about the possibilities. I hope you are too.

Here are the sermon topics and scriptures for the month of September. As you can see the first month of topics meet some of the challenges we deal with on almost a daily basis.

September 07 – Peace in the midst of stress (James 1:1-12) September 14 – Victory over temptation (James 1:13-18) September 21 – Controlling our anger (James 1:19-27) September 28 – Love your neighbors (James 2:1-13)

Wednesday night youth and adult programming has started again. Charity and Tom have good stuff going for all of our children. Wayne Feathers and I have started a class on Revelation. Since we’ve just begun it is not too late to get started. We would love to have you join us for a midweek time of study and fellowship. Wednesday nights at 6:30 – there’s something for everyone.

We will be hosting a mission fair the first weekend of October. This is always a good time to meet our missionaries, hear about what is going on where they serve, find out how we can help and pray more specifically and encourage them as they share Christ’s love wherever they serve.

We begin our study of James this Sunday. If you haven’t done so already, read James 1:1-12 in preparation for our time of study. Invite someone to worship with you this Sunday. Lord willing, I hope to see you and your guests on the Lord’s Day. I love you with the love of the Lord.

Autumn Blessings

By Jo Ann Kelly

Everywhere we look, we behold the handiwork of God Autumn scenes of majestic color, fill this earth which we now trod

Leaves of red, gold, and crimson beauty, seem to float gently to the ground Witnessing of the Creator, without even making a sound

The bountiful harvest displays can be seen all around

Pumpkins, apples, hay, and corn, decorate both country and town Children gleefully play in mounds of leaves piled high

Farmers work to redeem the time, knowing winter soon is nigh

Autumn's blessings are abundant and a time for our thanksgiving God has blessed the earth again, He is our Savior and reason for living

In this season of special beauty, let us bow our heads and pray Giving God praise for abundant blessings, thanking Him each new day
