ToDr Smith To Annihilate Suf ¬ fering Of Years Faithful l < Public ervant For Over Quarter Century A MODEL FATHER AND AN HONEST PRACTIONER The joys and festivities of Christmas are never without their sorrows and so was Cloverports Christmas this year The calling away just at this time of a servant to his last reward who has been always and without ceasing faith ¬ ful to his trust for the last thirty years could not but dampen the spirits of a glad yuletide Such was the death of Dr Francis Marion Smith of this city at two oclock in the afternoon of Christmas day The final sleep came to annihilate the pains and agonies of a years known suffering and too the sufferings of years previous unknown to any save himself whilst hewas ad- ministering ¬ to the sick and earring for the wounded Few men have ever been held in higher esteem in the minds of Cloverport and Breckenridge county people than has Dr Smith He was a model father even indulgent to a fault a true husband and an honest practioner of his profession- Dr Smith was born near Hardina burg in 1845 on May 5 Educated in the Hardinsburg Public schools the State College at Effinhara N H and at Bodin College Maine Returning to Kentucky he taught school both in Hardinsburg and Hawesville and then entered the Louisville Medical College graduating in 1876 After two years practice each at Lewisport and Tobins port Ind he came to Cloverport to enter upon his final service which end¬ ed in death Soon after coming here he married Miss Mattie LaHaist who sur¬ vives him with three daughters a son and a stepdaughter He is also surviv ¬ ed by three brothers and a sister The funeral services were held Sat urday afternoon from the Methodist church Rev B M Currie officiating and the interment was made in the local cemetery Those who attended the services from a distance were Mr Willis Smith of Owensboro Mr Enick Smith of Irv ington Mr Wesley Smith of West View brothers of the deceased Mrs John Cheaham of Owensboro a Dr Smith was born near Hardinaburg in 1845 on May 5 Educated inthe Hardinsburg Public schools theState College at Effinhara N H andat Bodin College Maine Returning toKentucky he taught school both inHardinsburg and Hawesville and thenentered the Louisville Medical Collegegraduating in 1876 After two yearspractice each at Lewisport and Tobinsport Ind he came to Cloverport toenter upon his final service which end¬ed in death Soon after coming here hemarried Miss Mattie LaHaist who sur¬

vives him with three daughters a sonand a stepdaughter He is also surviv ¬

ed by three brothers and a sisterThe funeral services were held Sat

urday afternoon from the Methodistchurch Rev B M Currie officiatingand the interment was made in thelocal cemetery
