Preface:

I was first introduced to ho`oponopono at a workshop led by James Arthur Ray in 2007/2008. I started saying it sporadi-cally at first, sometimes weeks between and I began noticing subtle differences in the way I felt and changes in my life. I did not fully understand at the time, but what I did notice was that the more often I said ho`oponopono, the better I felt and the more my life changed.

In 2011, I found myself homeless and jobless. I was going through chronic low-back pain and at the time could not work in an office environment due to not being able to sit for longer than 20 minutes at a time - not acceptable in a corpo-rate office environment. I remember saying to myself, “I need a job that I can work from home.” I began saying ho`opono-pono all the time, over and over and one day, out of the blue, I received an email from a contracting company asking if I was interested in working for a high-tech computer company and oh by the way, it is work from home and they will send you a laptop. YES!!! I am interested!!! The hiring process took about two months and near the end of it I can remember laying in my bunk thinking, “Ugh, this is taking so long. Did they find something in my background check? Is this really happen-ing or is this one of those ‘too good to be true’ scnearios.” I very quickly started saying ho`oponopono over and over and I changed my thinking to visualizing/imagining receiving the email with the flight and hotel reservation to go to company orientation. I visualized myself going to the airport, boarding the plane, the flight to Dallas, Texas, the cab ride to the hotel, checking in, settling into my room, etc. I visualized with as much detail as I could continuing to repeat ho`oponopono as I was imagining it all happen. Two days later I received the email with the flight/hotel reservations and have been in that job since - it is my dream job. It is not work, it is something I look forward to every day.

When I received the email with the air/hotel reservations, I knew in that moment there was something more than meets the eye about ho`oponopono and I began embracing it and embodying it, saying it as much as I could. The miracles(?) that continued to happen soon became expectations - the ex-tremely outstanding or unusual events, things, or accomplish-ments became every day occurrences rather than the ‘once in a lifetime’ event. Hence the reason I say “Miracles become expectations.”

When we practice ho`oponopono diligently and consistently, it eventually ceases to be a practice and is now a lifestyle, a lifestyle of peace, joy, happiness, and Love! We live in a place of constant love, humility, compassion, and gratitude, em-bracing and loving the most difficult of moments, days - un-derstanding that these difficult times are simply showing us what wants to be healed within us. This is when we realize that we now have conscious communication with our uncon-scious mind.

Continuing our ho`oponopono lifestyle we come to know unconditional self-love. We become unshakable. We no lon-ger judge others as we now understand that all judgment is self-judgment and we begin to feel that oneness with all that is. We are now living Pono! When we are living pono, truth is easy to stay in, to speak, to hear understanding that we are not responsible for anyone else’s feelings, only our own.

It is with Aloha (love) that I release this culmination of 40+ years of searching for answers in ancient texts, mystic practic-es, quantum physics, and life in general to have come to the simplest, most powerful, most effective practice I have had the pleasure to learn and practice.

It is my pule’ (prayer) that you embrace this practice as I have until it becomes a lifestyle. It is my belief that if enough peo-ple lived pono, we would have world peace!

Introduction:

What does it mean to Live Pono? It means living a life of being at one with everyone and everything.

The spiritual journey is often times a lonely one. Not lonely in the sense of being alone; rather, lonely within a relation-ship for example, but unable to share the experiences in a way that the other one understands. We have companionship in that relationship, but at some point that is no longer enough to keep the spark alive. And often we reach that point, but continue in the relationship, basically hoping something will change, but not knowing exactly what needs to change.

After a period of waiting for change, we come to the point of understanding that nothing else is going to change so I must change. If I am feeling stifled or not able to express my self fully, I need to change my environment and place my self in one of authenticity and love. Someplace where I can feel 100% comfortable just being who I am in this moment, whatever that moment is. That is what it means to live pono. Just be real. Be you, whoever that is in any given moment. This is not so easy to do, especially in the environments from which many of us grew up.

What does it mean to be ‘real’? It means to live in or within your feelings, from your heart at all times. This is very diffi-cult to do when we are surrounded by, let’s just say ego, for the sake of argument, i.e. running around doing our best to become the success we ‘think’ someone else wants us to be. And most, if not all of us go through that because that is what we were taught - “follow in your Father’s footsteps,” go to school, get good grades, go to college, get a degree, get a good job, stay with it until you retire, build that retirement fund so you can do whatever you want for the rest of your life.

Why not do whatever you want for the rest of your life starting now?!?

At some point we have a desire, a passion, a command al-most, to just be our self, to follow our heart, and to trust that it will never lie to us. We learned growing up to follow certain paths and guidelines as laid out by pretty much anyone old-er than us at the time. We made agreements with ourselves that it must be so because they said so. And we look around and we see everyone else doing the same and we all learn to connect on that level of understanding. By doing so we are strengthening that very belief system because we are reinforc-ing it within one another, losing our Self in the process.

And then at some point in our lives, usually early, pre-teen years, something happens and we have a question or ques-tions that cannot be answered or we present ideas that are not at all plausible and many of us are reprimanded for having those thoughts or ideas and we learn to shut that part down and keep it to ourselves. Thus begins the loneliness that is often associated with a spiritual path.

Because we learn “follow in your Father’s footsteps” behavior at an early age, it is easily transposed throughout our lives. Those memories live in our unconsciousness and in our mus-cles, our fascia, our bones and because they happened so long ago and had so much reinforcement, they became automatic - it is the energy we are exuding that attracts the people into our life to help us experience and re-live those memories. For many of us it is like the proverbial ‘walking on egg shells’ where we are careful what we say and especially careful about expressing our feelings, pretty much about anything of importance for fear of retribution or judgment.

There is something that happens to us, for us, when we come into living from our heart. It is difficult to explain and under-stand until you experience it. However, I will do my best to

Page 11: I Love You I Am Sorry Please orgive Me Than You...Fibromyalgia – Letting Go of Pain Once and For All 30 Years of Chronic Back Pain - Gone in an instant 40 Years of Chronic Foot Pain

explain it as best I can so that if you have a friend or loved one that says they are on a spiritual path, please understand that in some respects it is not truly a choice, for us on that path we realize that is what we came here to do in this physical form. Pretty much all the ancient texts refer to us as spiritual beings having chosen to have a physical experience. That being so, then we as spirits chose to come into the lives we came into in order to experience life and all of its circumstances.

We all know this at some level, but as we came into this ex-istence we conveniently forgot why we came here and spend much of our lives doing our best to understand that - to figure out the why. Then, at some point, it all makes sense, but only to self and of course others that have walked that path and come out on the other side.

One cannot truly understand how any give situation feels un-less and until one has been through something similar in their own life path. You cannot truly understand what it means to have your house burn down and all that goes with that un-less you have lived through your own house burning. We can imagine what something feels like, but cannot truly know it except through experience.

Herein lies the difficulty for someone doing their best to ex-plain how it feels to come into their heart-calling, knowing that whomever they are explaining to cannot possibly un-derstand at the same level because they have not yet felt that same calling.

When we listen to our heart, we soon become aware of always knowing, feeling truth, for self. When we first come into this heart-awareness, a lot of things do not make sense and we often ask our selves, “Why would I do THAT?!?” and then we go and do that, whatever that is - and when we do it, we are met with multitudes of blessings. Always. It is not long before we recognize this to be our intuition, our unconscious mind

doing its best to communicate with us on a conscious level through the language of the heart - feelings - the language of ho`oponopono.

All this to say, when we are living fully from our hearts, we are living pono, for we are indeed at one with everyone and everything, understanding that everything is in its proper place and time. The trick is staying pono.

How do we do that, live pono? That is what this book is about, how to get pono and live pono. Simple, but not easy. In fact, this is some of the hardest work we do... at first... then it be-comes easier the more we practice, until it becomes a life-style.

I love youI am sorry Please forgive me Thank you

That is all it is, four simple statements. We do not have to feel it, we do not have to believe it, or believe in it, it does not have to mean anything, we simply say it, over and over, to ourselves. Remembering that ho`oponopono is ALWAYS and ONLY about self and NEVER about anyone or anything else.

It teaches us that each of us is 100% responsible for our own lives - always have been and always will be; hence, there is no longer any blame. We can no longer blame our parents or anyone else for how our lives are turning out.

We will take a look into how it works at the deepest levels through exploration of quantum physics, metaphysics, neu-roplasticity, biology, neuroscience, and consciousness.

We will reference a number of various other books that help us take ho`oponopono to the deeper levels and understand how to use it to bring ourselves to a place of peace, no matter

what is going on in our lives. We learn to be grateful for the tough, the difficult times.

Upon reading my “Introduction to Ho`oponopono” booklet, my Father said, “You know I am a staunch agnostic, I do not buy into any of that spiritual or religious stuff, but this is a good philosophy! It can’t hurt, it might help.”

And with that, I implore you to keep an open heart and mind as we explore concepts, ideas, and the magic of ho`oponopo-no.

What does it mean to be creative?

Is it true that some people are more creative than others?

Why do we have creative spurts and they seem to come and go at random?

Is there a way to keep those creative moments alive?

Can we force creativity, make it happen any time we like?

Creativity for some, seems to be ever-elusive, and others will say, non-existent for them, while others seem to just be inher-ently creative. Why is that? Is learning to be creative some-thing one can learn? Yes - and here is how we can learn to release and maintain our creativity any time we like.

When we understand what is going on within our bodies when the creative process is active and alive, we can then learn to re-create those moments and learn to maintain our creativity for longer periods of time.

The first thing we can do is dispel the common myth:The left brain is logical (realistic, analytical, practical, and or-ganized), and the right brain is creative, (passionate, sensual, tasteful, colorful, vivid, and poetic). While the left-right-brain idea is essentially true, it does not stop there. The neurosci-ence of creativity shows us that there is a much bigger picture than just the two sides of the brain. Creativity does not in-volve a specific brain region or specific side of the brain,

“Instead, the entire creative process– from prepa-ration to incubation to illumination to verification-- consists of many interacting cognitive processes (both conscious and unconscious) and emotions. Depending on the stage of the creative process, and what you’re actually attempting to create, different brain regions are recruited to handle the task.” ~~~ Scott Barry Kaufman

Many different areas of the brain work together, recruiting help from other areas of the brain as necessary. Understand-ing this, we can assume that just about everyone has the same creative ability as the next person.

And the best part of all this is that we can now learn to acti-vate and maintain our creativity any time we like. It is a sim-ple matter of understanding a few basic things about how our brain works with creativity.

The brain has 3 basic neural networks:The Central Executive Attention Network

...is active when we are placing our full at-tention on solving a complex problem or lis-tening to a lecture, or anything that requires full concentration. Communication through the neural pathways between the outer regions of the pre-frontal cortex and the back of the parietal lobe is active.

The Default Mode Network (also known as the Imagination Net-work)

...pulls up memories of our past experiences and when we are thinking about the future, we are imagining different perspectives and scenarios for the present. This network is also active when we are imagining what

Page 17: I Love You I Am Sorry Please orgive Me Than You...Fibromyalgia – Letting Go of Pain Once and For All 30 Years of Chronic Back Pain - Gone in an instant 40 Years of Chronic Foot Pain

someone may be thinking. Neural pathway communica-tion involves areas deep inside the prefrontal cortex and the temporal lobe, as well as both inner and outer regions of the parietal cortex.

The Salience Network...is like the gatekeeper, always monitoring both the Ex-ecutive Network and the Default Network, as well as the internal stream of consciousness and hands over control to whatever information is most prevalent to solving the challenge. The salience network is important for dynamic switching between the networks and consists of the dorsal anterior cingulate cortices (dACC) and the anterior insular (AI).

Billings, J. (2013). Social and Physical Pain on Common Ground. The Neuroethics Blog. Retrieved on February 22, 2019, from

http://www.theneuroethicsblog.com/2013/05/social-andphysical-pain-on-common_8.html

The dACC and AI play a role in a wide variety of autonomic functions, such as regulating blood pressure and heart rate as well as certain higher-level functions, such as attention allocation, reward anticipation, decision-making, ethics and morality, impulse control (e.g. performance monitoring and error detection), and emotion.

Page 18: I Love You I Am Sorry Please orgive Me Than You...Fibromyalgia – Letting Go of Pain Once and For All 30 Years of Chronic Back Pain - Gone in an instant 40 Years of Chronic Foot Pain

As part of the Salience Network, the dACC and AI play a role in general brain function, influencing cognitive as well as emotional processing. We could say this is how we know if something feels right, yeah?

The neuroscience of creativity shows us that not only are the large-scale networks (left/right) active, but also recognizing that the different networks of the brain all communicate with each other and allow the most helpful networks to work to-gether activating and deactivating specific areas as necessary during the different stages of creativity. Sometimes it is help-ful for the networks to work together while other times not so much.

Our creativity resides within and is always present. We just need to learn to tap into it when we want instead of waiting for it to show up - creativity is a flow - nothing more. If it is not flowing, what is blocking it? All we need do is learn to clear those blocks and we may then tap into the flow.

Research shows that creative thinking involves making new connections between different regions of the brain, implying that we can make ourselves more creative by engaging our divergent thinking skills and deliberately exposing ourselves to new experiences and learning. And when we take neuro-plasticity under consideration, we remember the more we practice something, the more automatic it becomes until we no longer need to focus full concentration on it, we trust that it will be there when we need it.

YaY!!! Now we know that our left-right sides are connected. How do we actualize the knowledge? How do we put it into practice? The desire to better understand creativity and how it works came about because I have been working on this book and I was only doing so sporadically - waiting for the inspiration/

creativity to ignite. That was okay as far as it went because when it did strike I was able to get more done; however, it did not last and I did not seem to be able to sustain it.

I wondered, “Is there a way to spark and maintain creativ-ity?” And I began repeating ho’oponopono over and over. This brings me to a meditative state and I am then more re-ceptive to new ideas.

Often the answers will come very quickly and this was one of them, “Is there such a thing as the neuroscience of creativity?” So a quick search confirmed that yes, indeed there is. And here we are. Okay, cool. So now I know creativity is actually a whole-brain function, not just the right side.

What happens is the executive network is in charge while I am writing this paragraph, at least up to this point as I ba-sically know what I want to say, and...... now I am having a block - not sure where to go with it. At this point I say ho`o-ponopono a few times, I love you, I am sorry, Please forgive me, Thank you.

Doing this relieves the focus from the executive network al-lowing the default, or imagination network to come to the foreground where we get our ideas based upon our past ex-periences and what we imagine or visualize for the future. It gives the executive network a little break and activates the imagination.

As the executive network steps aside, the default network is freed up to allow new ideas and possibilities to come into our consciousness and as they come in the salient network is al-ways active, directing traffic, allowing some thoughts to flow through, while stopping others. When the executive network is at a red light, the default network thoughts are flowing through. Then when the executive network light turns green, the new thoughts slow down and the focus is back on the

Page 20: I Love You I Am Sorry Please orgive Me Than You...Fibromyalgia – Letting Go of Pain Once and For All 30 Years of Chronic Back Pain - Gone in an instant 40 Years of Chronic Foot Pain

20

executive network to concentrate and put the new thoughts together, to make sense of them, to finish the paragraph, the painting, etc.

Remember, the key ingredients of neuroplasticity and chang-ing our brains is practice and repetition. The more we do something, the easier it gets.

When I first started applying ho`oponopono to igniting and maintaining creativity, the first few times I was not sure if it was going to work, but understanding that it takes practice and repetition, I continued doing it and sure enough, it was not very long and I began to realize it actually does work, at least for me.

I have written more in the past 3 weeks than I have in the last year, maybe even 18 months combined. How do I explain it? I think I just did. Suffice to say that it works! At least it is work-ing for me and as it has been said, “What one person can do, another person can do.”
