Mr.Diefenthaler relayed his concerns regarding the site to OSC Fpx.

explained EPA concerns at the site and CERCLA Removal Programdirectives which applied to the site for the purpose of samplingwaters and sediments in the on-site lagoon, and soils at lagoondischarge points. Thiocyanates
Discussion:
All of the EPA thiocyanate procedures are based on the formationand extraction of a dithiocyanatodipyridylcopper (II) complex.High background levels of copper are present in all samples,severely interfering with the detection of thiocyanate. Coupledwith the complex nature of all the samples it was impossible todetermine thiocyanate concentrations at less than SO parts permi 11 ion,
The rigorous total cyanide digestion w i l l generally convert someor all of tniocyanate present in most matrices to cyanide, (apositive interference. Performing a ligand displacement methodfor the determination of total cyanide (the distillation isperformed at a pH of <t,5) w i l l remove this interference, but canresult in the low recovery of some metal complex cyanides.
