“Who Has Influenced You,

the Most”

I thought this was good---as another

school draws to a close. The following is the

philosophy of Charles Schulz, the creator of

the 'Peanuts' comic strip. You don't have to

actually answer the questions. Just ponder on

them.

Just read them straight through, and you'll get

the point.

1. Name the five wealthiest people in the world.

2. Name the last five Heisman trophy winners.

3. Name the last five winners of the Miss America

pageant.

4. Name ten people who have won the Nobel or

Pulitzer Prize.

5. Name the last half dozen Academy Award

winners for best actor and actress.

How did you do?

The point is none of us remember all of the

headliners of yesterday. These are not second-rate

achievers. They are or were the best in their fields.

But the applause dies...the awards tarnish...the

achievements are forgotten. Accolades and

certificates are buried with their owners.

So, here is another quiz. See how you do on

this one.

1. List a few teachers who aided your journey

through school.

2. Name three friends who have helped you

through a difficult time.

3. Name five people who have taught you

something worthwhile.

4. Think of a few people who have made you feel

appreciated and special.

5. Think of five people you enjoy spending time

with.

Is that quiz a little bit easier? The lesson: The

people who make a difference in your life are not

the ones with the most credentials, the most

money, or the most awards. They simply are the

ones who care the most. Consider joining your

church family at First United Methodist Church of

Dodge City, Kansas during the next 30 days or so

as we reflect on the influence Christ has on our

lives.

All the best,

Jerre

"¿Quién te ha influido, mas?"

Pensé que esto era bueno—ya que

otro año escolar llega a su fin. Lo

siguiente es la filosofía de Charles

Schulz, el creador de ‘Peanuts’ tira

cómica. No tienes que contestar las

preguntas solo medita en ellas. Lee

las todas y lo entenderás.

1. Nombra las cinco personas más ricas del

mundo.

2. Nombra a los últimos cinco ganadores del

trofeo Heisman.

3. Nombra a las últimas cinco ganadoras del

concurso de Miss América.

4. Nombrar a diez personas que han ganado

el Nobel o premio Pulitzer.

5. Nombre la última media docena de

ganadores del Oscar al mejor actor y

actriz.

credenciales, mucho dinero, o muchos premios.

Simplemente son aquellas personas a quienes les

importa. Considera acompañar a tu familia de

Primera Iglesia Metodista Unida Dodge City

Kansas, en los siguientes 30 días mientras

reflexionamos como Cristo influye en nuestras

vidas.

Lo mejor, Jerre

From my heart to yours

6 I planted the seed and Apollos watered it. But God is the one who made the seed

grow. 7 So the one who plants is not important, and the one who waters is not important. Only God is important, because

he is the one who makes things grow. – 1 Corinthians. 3:6, 7

The transition process is something we have

been doing, even before birth. But we can start right from that starting point, birth.

In a life passing by on a regular basis, this would be the transition process. We stop being babies, children become. We leave childhood to enter adolescence; it is the transition to adulthood. The next step is to old age. And finally, it ends our transient life on earth, to pass into eternity.

But in each of the stages we go traveling, there are plenty of things that are obtained, and others that are abandoned. All involve a change; sacrifices... encouragement and discouragements… gains and losses... tears and joys... How much could we say about that?

This new annual conference year our church also will enter into another very important transition process. I complete my ministerial journey in this community of faith of Dodge City; to make way for another minister, who will arrive with a fresh anointing, new challenges, to the glory of God the Father, and benefit of the whole church.

I thank God for all the achievements that TOGETHER we reached for the Kingdom; for all wonderful experiences that TOGETHER we have lived throughout these seven years; because TOGETHER we have grown; by successes, and failures, which TOGETHER have had; by the team so strong that TOGETHER we have been able to share.

Forward First United Methodist Church! You all here, and we over there, we will continue working TOGETHER to reach souls for the kingdom of heaven. A big hug!!! In the love of Christ,

Pastor Tania

Pastora Tania

Student MinistriesA Note From Bryce

"All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for

reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that

everyone who belongs to God may be proficient, equipped for

every good work."

- 1 Timothy 3:16-17

Over the past two years a small group of our youth have

been dedicated to reading through the entire Bible. The group is

called, "The Pilgrimage." What an appropriate name for the

group, because it has been a truly enlightening journey. It has

been a time of self-discovery, a time of trials and challenges, and

a time of bonding together. But most importantly, it has also

been a time of intense spiritual growth.

Perhaps the most vivid example of the growth was

watching as our youth made connections between the cleansing

of water in Scripture and our own lives. As we read about

Jesus’ baptism, they connected the cleansing power of the water

in our baptism to that of Jesus' baptism. As they talked they also

saw how this cleansing theme echoed the story of Noah, and

God's cleansing of the Earth - both stories complete with a dove

playing an instrumental role.

As we take our final steps on this Pilgrimage, I encourage

you to open up your Bible. Discover for yourself the power of

Scripture, and find words inspired by God for you.

Weekly Programs

Sunday School: Our Sunday School program meets Sunday mornings from 10-11 in the RZ Room. Through the summer we will be looking at wild stories in the Bible that connect to the lives of today's teens. Join us for one wild ride! Summer Evenings: Our youth ministry offers youth an opportunity to discover what it means to be in a real, authentic relationship with the God who created, redeems, and sustains all things. Over the summer, we will have a youth-guided weekly gathering from 6:00-8:00 on Wednesdays. Youth will choose songs for worship, lead prayer, and pick a fun activity each week. Join us for a great time of worship and fellowship!

What to Know:

In addition to our weekly activities, our summer

programming offers youth a variety of fun events. These are

great opportunities to invite friends, but also build

relationships among our youth.

This year, we will be gathering around a bonfire (June 10),

playing games (June 27), breaking in the new Long Branch Lagoon

waterpark (July 11), and traveling to Lake

Wilson (TBD).

SARAH SAYS As far as the east is from the

west, so He has removed our

transgressions from us.

Psalm 103:12

Have you ever laid on a sandy beach or

in the warm grass of a pasture, flat on your

back with the vast expanse of sky above you?

The breeze is warm, bird songs are clear, the

lap of waves-soothing. There is relaxation,

even more, there is release. Nature invites you

into the reality that is vast and all

encompassing, pushing back the burdens and

cares of your life. Imagine such a place. Give

yourself over to the gift of peace that our

Creator gives you.

As you rest with this peaceful image.

Think about how many miles your eyes and

thoughts can picture and travel. The vast

prairie with its vibrant blue dome carrying

your eye so far. Or the long expanse of beach

and sand, waves lapping on the endless

shoreline.

We can liken this same open expanse to

the true freedom we have by way of confessed

sin-and how great is God's boundless love for

us. Taking our sins as far away as possible. He

forgives, forgets and washes us clean. Only

God has this ability, and we can reap its

eternal benefits. Through His vast love we can

also find daily peace and release from the

burdens of our lives.

So when life seems overwhelming-take

time to rest on the beach or in the grassy field.

Breathe deeply. Let your mind imagine the

vastness of God's love for you. Dwell with

God for awhile. Talk to God - talk of your

struggles, confide your mistakes. Then take

the next step and truly believe that you are

loved and set right with Him, though there

may be turmoil and questions surrounding

your life. Rest in God's peace and boundless

love for you! It seems impossible but Christ

came to make sure we know we are loved and

forgiven. As far as the east is from the west ....

UMW READING PROGRAM

WHY DO WE READ? The question has been asked, “Why do we read UMW books?” There are many answers. One reason is to grow spiritually in our relationship with other people and with God. Praying for Strangers by River Jordan teaches us about treating strangers well, like we would want to be treated. When we see a person we do not know, what is our attitude? Do we snub them, treat them as a bother, glare when they get in our way? Or are we kind, as Christians should be, knowing that everyone has cares and problems and could use a smile? We learn more about missions which are so important to our faith. As we read Awake by Noel Brewer Yeatts we realize that clean water is the most basic essential for human life. Yet many people around the world do not have access to it. We can help through our missions. There are many places in the world where girls are not allowed to be leaders or even get an education. We all know of Malala Yousafzai and her book, I am Malala. She shows us how she and other girls are leading the fight for education. Do we really care about the environment and all the creatures in it? Read The Eye of the Whale by Jennifer O’Connell and you will learn how one “big guy” thanked his rescuers. This Far by Faith by Faith Fowler describes how she created the Cass Community for the homeless in Detroit. We all care about our own community and there are many areas in which we can show our support.

There are worlds we do not know enough about. That includes our own inner selves and the wonder of God’s grace. We can grow and learn by reading UMW books.

OUR MINISTRY and MISSON GIVING

Great churches. Great leaders. Great disciples. Transforming the world.

Each church within the Great Plains Conference of the United Methodist Church

is asked each year to support the ministry of the United Methodist Church through

our Ministry and Mission fund. This year, that “apportionment” for First United Methodist

Church of Dodge City is $76,782.00

Through the end of the most recent accounting period (May 2016), we have raised $27,184.16 of

that amount, leaving the amount still due of $49,598.84.

Through a series of short informative articles, we hope to provide more information as to how

our share is determined, and how the funds are used to further the ministry and mission of the

Great Plains Conference and The United Methodist Church.

Question #1: How is each church’s Mission Share calculated?

Answer: The funding is based on the Biblical tithe—10% of each church’s total operating

income. In addition, each church is asked to contribute 1 percent toward Mission Agency

Support. At First Church Dodge City, we lump this all together as our “Ministry and Mission

Funds.”
