The St. Patrick's day feature at Heppner, Ore., was the organization of a division of tho Ladies' Auxiliary. A new division of the Ladies' Aux- iliary is being organized by Miss M. Phelan, the County President, at Los Angeles. The Hibernian St. Patrick's day parade in Indianapolis made a pro- found impression, the 5,000 men in line making a fine appearance. Right Rev. Bishop Garrigan and Hon. E. 1-1. Whelan, of O'Neill, Neb., were the orators at the Hibernian celebration and banquet at Sioux City in honor of St. Patrick. Among the notables attending the Hibernian celebration at Portland, Ore., were Archbishop Christie, Gov. Withcombe and John Dowd, who was born in County Kerry, 104 years ago. Cardinal O'Connell celebrated the memorial mass at Holy Cross Cathe- dral, when 2,500 Hibernians received holy communion. During his sermon the Cardinal declared the Irish the noblest race God ever created. The Monitor—New Jersey. If it is true, as a contemporary al leges, that the Irish Race Convention in New York City "received very scant notice in the Catholic press, scarcely a dozerr papers giving any account of it, and more than half taking no no- tice of it whatever," it only goes to show how weak and inadequate are the agencies for the gathering of news which our Catholic papers possess. This convention was the largest Irish convention ever held irr the Uni- ted States and the delegates came from all sections of the country. These facts should claim a news re- port even from a lame press. The metropolitan papers did not fail to give large space to a report of the Convention. Most of them also had editorial reference to the Con- vention and its sentiments. And it did not detract from the merits of the Con- vention that the ultra-English papers of New York were bitter in their comment and attacks upon it. THE VALUE OF TIME. How much is time worth in this age? A railroad has just completed, at a cost of $12,000,000, a viaduct a half-mile long which furnishes a for- ty-mile cut-off in its route from New York to Buffalo. The saving in time is but twenty minutes. But freight trains will save an hour on this same stretch, and the grade has been so materially altered that two engines will now do the work for which five were formerly required. The Holy Faith Sisters in Dublin care for t!00 children and are entire- ly dependent on voluntary contribu- tions. Padriac Colum, the Irish Catholic poet, is now a member of the staff of the New York Post. TYRONE. When a train from Londonderry was approaching Strabane Station, a number of carriages and wagons left tho rails when crossing Strabane Bridge. Some of tho vehicles were badly damaged, and portions of them fell over the embankment. Three passengers were afterwards treated for shock. TIPPERARY. At Clommel fair two sows were sold for £21 each. Roscrea is discontinued a3 a police headquarters, and is now included in the Templemore District. Drom sta- tion is abolished. NATIONAL DIRECTORS. Jas. J. Ryan. St. Paul. John k. Henley, Delaware. ROSCOMMON. In the case of the estate of the late

John Gallagher, who died near Bal-laghaderreen, it was stated in the Dublin Probate Court that his two daughters lost their reason the day of his funeral.

The death has taken place at his residence at Goff street, Roscommon, of Mr. J. Grogan, for many years a member of the Roscommon Board of Guardians and District Council, and was at one time President of- tho Roscommon Town Tenants Association branch.

SLIGO. The Mullinabreena Club p'ayed that

romantic Irish play "For the Land She Loved," in the WThite Hall, Keash, recently. The drama is a description of the Rising in Antrim and Down in 1798.

There was a stiff fight at Sligo County Council as to whether Direct Labor would be employed on the scheduled roads. Finally the motion in favor of Direct Labor was carried by eight to five.

WICKLOW. Mr. Hammond, auctioneer, Carnew,

put up for sale by public auction, for Mr. Peter M. Furlong, his farm at Bal-lyknocker. containing 113a. 2r., statute, held in fee-simplo, the annuity being £29 18s; jioor-law valuation, £44 15s. After brisk bidding Mr. John M'Crea, Croneyhorn, was declared tne purchaser at £750 and commission.

HIBERNIANS. The two divisions at Portland, Ore.,

will hold an Irish fair next May. The St. Patrick's day feature at

Heppner, Ore., was the organization of a division of tho Ladies' Auxiliary.

A new division of the Ladies' Auxiliary is being organized by Miss M. Phelan, the County President, at Los Angeles.

The Hibernian St. Patrick's day parade in Indianapolis made a profound impression, the 5,000 men in line making a fine appearance.

Cardinal O'Connell celebrated the memorial mass at Holy Cross Cathedral, when 2,500 Hibernians received holy communion. During his sermon the Cardinal declared the Irish the noblest race God ever created.

The Monitor—New Jersey. If it is true, as a contemporary al

leges, that the Irish Race Convention in New York City "received very scant notice in the Catholic press, scarcely a dozerr papers giving any account of it, and more than half taking no notice of it whatever," it only goes to show how weak and inadequate are the agencies for the gathering of news which our Catholic papers possess.

This convention was the largest Irish convention ever held irr the United States and the delegates came from all sections of the country.

These facts should claim a news report even from a lame press.

The metropolitan papers did not fail to give large space to a report of the Convention. Most of them also had editorial reference to the Convention and its sentiments. And it did not detract from the merits of the Convention that the ultra-English papers of New York were bitter in their comment and attacks upon it.

THE VALUE OF TIME.

How much is time worth in this age? A railroad has just completed, at a cost of $12,000,000, a viaduct a half-mile long which furnishes a forty-mile cut-off in its route from New York to Buffalo. The saving in time is but twenty minutes. But freight trains will save an hour on this same stretch, and the grade has been so materially altered that two engines will now do the work for which five were formerly required.

The Holy Faith Sisters in Dublin care for t!00 children and are entirely dependent on voluntary contributions.

Padriac Colum, the Irish Catholic poet, is now a member of the staff of the New York Post.

TYRONE. When a train from Londonderry

was approaching Strabane Station, a number of carriages and wagons left tho rails when crossing Strabane Bridge. Some of tho vehicles were badly damaged, and portions of them fell over the embankment. Three passengers were afterwards treated for shock.

TIPPERARY. At Clommel fair two sows were sold

for £21 each. Roscrea is discontinued a3 a police

headquarters, and is now included in the Templemore District. Drom station is abolished.
