    I WANT ALLAHby UmmSaalih

Who doesnt?Who does not want Allah subhanahu wa ta`ala? Who from amongst

us can say that we do not want this special Nisbat and connection to Allahsubhanahu wa ta`ala, the Most High?We all make this claim. We all say that we want to be connected to Allahsubhanahu wa ta`ala. We want to love Him and to be loved by Him. We all aspireto become His beloved servant.

What we fail to realize is that we are not truly prepared to receive this great loveand divine connection. Before you can fill any vessel, you must first empty it. The heart is a vessel. Andlike any vessel, the heart too must be emptiedbefore it can be filled. One can

never hope to fill the heart with Allah subhanahu wa ta`ala, as long as that vessel isfull of other than Him.Therefore, this vessel, this heart, needs to be purified and cleansed. This spiritualconnection with Allah subhanahu wa ta`ala cannot and will not be contained in avessel that is impure.

Think of a glass. It is filthy with stains, scum and impurities. Would anyone thinkto pour pure milk into such a glass? No one, looking at the condition of such aglass, would pour anything pure and clean into it. Our logical and rational minds, our natural instincts would think it insane to do such an act.

Similarly, our hearts are vessels which can contain this connection to Allahsubhanahu wa ta`ala, but would Allah subhanahu wa ta`ala who is All Pure instillthis blessed Nisbat into such an impure vessel?.What is the condition of our hearts? If our hearts are filled with spiritual ailmentsand diseases, such as pride, envy, lust and desires etc., then such hearts are in nocondition to receive this divine connection. Not until such hearts are cleansed ofthese spiritual diseases, will divine connection with Allah subhanahu wa ta`ala becreated.

The remedies for such ailments of the heart include excessive Zikr/remembrance

of Allah, increased daroods and salams upon Allahs beloved Nabi (peace andblessings of Allah be upon him) and the frequent remembrance of death. These are just a few of the many remedies and avenues for purifying the heart.

Without doubt, the fastest way of gaining this special connection and love withAllah subhanahu wa ta`ala is through the following of Allahs beloved Nabi (peaceand blessings of Allah be upon him).

Obedience to Rasoolullah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), following hisblessed teachings and practices and developing love for him is the best way ofgaining Allahs love and pleasure.

Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanwi (may Allah have mercy on him) states:

The actuality of the Nisbat is that the servant shares a relationship of lovewith Allah subhanahu wa ta`ala and Allah subhanahu wa ta`ala arelationship of pleasure with His servant.

We often question and wonder why we cannot gain Allahs love, why arent weachieving this divine connection with Allah subhanahu wa ta`ala?

    The answer is quite simple.

We first need to cleanse our hearts of its impurities. Our job is to purify the heartwhile Allahs subhanahu wa ta`ala part is to fill such a heart with radiance. Whenour hearts become a clean and pure vessel deserving of Allah s subhanahu wata`ala connection, only then will He fill such hearts with His radiance, Insha Allah.

Allah says in the Holy Quran in Surah Ankabuut, Verse 69:

And those who strive for Us - We will surely guide them to Our ways. And indeed,

Allah is with the doers of good.

May Allah subhanahu wa ta`ala give you and me the ability to truly cleanse andpurify our heart and make them worthy of receiving and containing this divineconnection.Ameen.
