Arts Institute IA The Arts Institute (IA) has a recognized history of more than 40 years dedicated to the study and elucidation of the arts, professional training and the promotion of dialogue between art and science. Founded in 1970 as a music school, today its wide-ranging teaching, research and extension activities are concentrade in Theater, Dance, Visual Arts, Cinema, Social Communication|Media Studies and Music. Frequently present in the national and international scene with endeavors in the most diverse artistic fields, IA develops and trains many great Performers of Brazilian art and culture. A benchmark in Brazil and abroad, the IA graduate school is a vigorous center that generates studies that incorporate research and practice, artistic production and criticism, and theory through an interdisciplinary perspective. Its graduate programs in the Visual and Theatrical Arts, Music and Multimedia account for the training of a significant portion of master’s - and doctorate - level alumni who work within their artistic field and in the area of Brazilian Arts Education. The fieldwork is structured to facilitate both the integration of artistic branches of knowledge and an interdisciplinary focus on education and research. The consistent and high-quality academic and artistic production within the Arts Institute has been recognized with important awards, with respected publications, and in addition, is frequently presented at arts festivals, providing international visibility to faculty and student work that emerges from the Institute. As a result of international prestige, the mobility of professors and exchange students is increasing, as are studies and collaborative projects conducted in partnership with professors from renowned universities in Latin America, the USA, Europe and Oceania. The unit offers undergraduate programs in Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Social Communication|Media Studies, Dance and Music, in addition to extension, specialization and improvement programs open to the university and to the community. The Arts Institute Festival (Festival do Instituto de Artes - FEIA), which is organized by IA students, is considered one of the largest university festivals in Brazil. It focuses on the dissemination of local artistic production and the presentation of national guests and is directed to both inside and outside of the academic community. Held annually at Unicamp facilities and in institutional, cultural and community spaces of the city of Campinas and the neighboring region, the festival includes national artists among its guests and attracts a large audience for its dozens of free cultural workshops, lectures, dance performances, theater productions, concerts and musical performances, film and video screenings and art exhibitions.
