Development ProcessRecommendations Documents
Broad effort for document development:• Meetings for document development: consultancies, drafting groups, topical working groups (total of 15 meetings)• Reference Group (5 meetings) to oversee consistency and coherence among the recommendations documents
Review process; open-ended• February 2010: Technical meeting: 70 experts from 40 countries and two observers• April – August 2010: 120 days review by all Member States• September 2010: Technical meeting related to the three Recommendations documents with participation of 91 delegates from 44 countries

Long-term Sustainability for Nuclear Security Capabilities
Primary objectives are:• Develop human resources• Develop a network of experts• Provide technical support for
equipment • Provide scientific support to
law enforcement
11
Risk ReductionUpon request• Physical protection upgrades• Detection and response equipment at border crossing and venues• Moving vulnerable materials to safe and secure storage • Repatriation
12
Capacity Building via Integrated Nuclear Security Support Plans• Platform for nuclear security work over time.• Work-plan for nuclear security improvements by States• Tool for coordination
INSSP remains ‘Confidential’.
Enables all parties (IAEA, State,Donors) to plan and coordinateactivities from both a technical andfinancial viewpoint.
13
Nuclear forensics uses isotopic, chemical, and physical signatures to provide insight into the source and history of radioactive materials out of regulatory control
Coordinated Research Projects• Procedures for collection of evidence• Analytical capacity, networks,
dedicated laboratories• Bridges nuclear science • Challenge: the developing of national
libraries with relevant information;Education and training• Training course in crime scene
management
Nuclear forensics provides key contributions to anuclear security framework:
R&D example: Nuclear Forensics
