What is the IB Programme?
The IB program is an internationally recognized program designed to develop

At Archbishop MacDonald, the IB Middle Years Programme (IB MYP- Grades 8, 9 and 10) finishes its final year this program prepares students for the two year
IB Diploma Programme (IB DP) that qualified students will enter in grades 11 and 12. Archbishop MacDonald is an accredited IB MYP and DP school. Teachers are
trained by the IB organization and use IB assessment criteria to evaluate student learning.
IB students engage in a program that enhances the breadth and intensity of academic study and also prepares students with valuable personal skills that advance success with post-secondary pursuits in college, university,
internships and employment.

International Mindedness Club
The International Mindedness Club along with the Social Justice Club
participated in the Basketball marathon and games room event on Friday, April,
27, 2018.
The students that participated in Karaoke and Just Dance enjoyed each other’s
company for 12 hours. Students that participated in the Basketball Marathon
played basketball for 12 hours! Together we raised over $9000.00. That is a
great amount of money! This money will be given to the Sign of Hope Campaign
and CMMB. Congratulations to all students that came out and participated.

The idea behind this ATT (Approach to Teaching) is to connect information with
students local and global experiences / knowledge of the world around them as practical examples of the application of these concepts.
Sometimes called ‘real-life’ contexts, this can help solidify student understanding in a more meaningful way by exploring ‘real-life’ problems
rather than imaginary problems.

Service Learning/Service in Action
Making a meaningful and measurable impact
Our Service Learning program fosters the development of an intrinsic mindset in each student to connect and engage with communities, locally or globally. As students identify and work to address a diverse array of issues affecting people and the planet, they grow socially and spiritually, while developing strong leadership skills.
The IB MYP (10) engages students in academically rigorous courses focused on eight subject groups: English, World Language, Social Studies, Mathematics, Science, the Arts, Technology, and Physical Education. IB MYP (10) students learn to think creatively and independently as they immerse themselves in this interdisciplinary education.

In the IB DP (11-12), students continue to develop an international outlook through a challenging course of study. The standard and higher level courses in which students engage are focused around six subject groups: Literature, World Language, Individuals and Societies, Experimental Science, Mathematics, and the Arts and Electives. Upon successful completion of the program and its requirements, students may be eligible for the IB Diploma, a globally recognized college qualification.

The IBO (International Baccalaureate Programme) requires the IB Diploma grade to be documented in a candidate’s final year of a subject. The IB
Diploma grade is determined using the following categories of assessment: Note: The IBDP assessments vary by subject group. The last day of senior level IBDP instruction prior to exams is T. May 1, 2018
All senior level IBDP classes will be suspended during the IBDP exams.
All 3 credit IBDP courses will end on T. May 1, 2018 (will not reconvene after IB exams).
All 5 credit IBDP courses will resume on T. May 22, 2018 (after the IBDP exams)
A student who is writing an IBDP exam will be exempt from attending classes during the exam
writing time. This will be documented on PowerSchool as SA (School Based Activity)
The suspension of IBDP courses during IBDP exams and the subsequent termination of IBDP 3
credit courses after the IBDP exams will be documented on PowerSchool as EX (Excused)
All students are responsible for attending their non- IBDP classes during the IBDP May
exams except for when they are writing an IBDP exam.
All IBDP candidates are required to complete the internal and external assessments or other required
components to qualify for course completion in the IBDP course(s) in which they are registered.
If a student fails to complete the IBDP course in which they are registered by not completing a
mandatory assessment (internal/ external or other required IBDP assessment) they will be
responsible for reimbursing Archbishop MacDonald High School for the supplementary fees it has
paid on their behalf for the IBDP registrations incurred.

Awarding of an IB Course Certificate
A Course Certificate will indicate all grades for IB DP Courses completed.
Grades for Subject Courses will be recorded as a grade out of 7
(A grade of 1 is a failing grade)
Grades for Extended Essay or TOK will be recorded as a letter grade
( A,B,C,D,E) A grade of E is a failing grade.
Grades of “N” (no mark possible) – for either a subject or EE or TOK is
equivalent to a failing grade.
Awarding of an IB Diploma Certificate (AKA: The IB Diploma)
Background Information: The award of an IB Diploma is for full IB Diploma candidates only. It is a prestigious document that can be shown to post secondary institutions for entry, transfer credit or scholarship purposes.
The Award of the IB Diploma: The IB Diploma has a list of requirements. Enrollment in a full IB Diploma programme is not sufficient to ensure that you receive an IB Diploma; you must pass your IB Diploma Subjects and Core
Courses.
Requirements to receive the IB Diploma: The receipt of an IB diploma is dependant on receiving enough points from your subject and core courses.
The total number of points one can receive is maximum 45 points. One needs to receive a minimum of 24 points to receive the IB Diploma
Combined points in 6 subjects (SL & HL) = maximum 42 points and 3 Core (TOK, EE and CAS) = maximum 3 points

Subjects are graded as a mark 1-7 (7=highest)
6 subjects x maximum mark of 7 = 42 maximum points
Students must also achieve minimum scores in subject courses
as follows:
No grade of 1 in any subject.
No more than two grade 2’s in subjects
No more than three grades < 3 in subjects
HL Subjects: must not be less than 12 points
o If you are taking more than 3 HL subjects, use your
top 3 to calculate.
SL Subjects: SL Subjects must not be less than 9 points

o If you are taking only 2 SL courses they each must
be 5 points.
Candidate has not received a penalty for academic
misconduct from the IBO final award committee.

Requirements
TOK and EE are graded with a letter grade A E (A =
highest)
The TOK and EE letter grades are combined in a diploma points
matrix (See Next Page) to contribute between 0 3 points
CAS does not contribute to the point total; however, CAS
requirements MUST be met to achieve an IB Diploma.
