The IBIDEN Group was established in 1912 as Ibigawa Electric Power Co., Ltd. to promote the local economy. Since its inception, we have been growing and developing hand in hand with the local community.
In the nearly 100 years of the Company’s history, the environment surrounding the Group has changed drastically. Under a range of circumstances, we have tirelessly mastered our own innovative technologies and pursued product development by answering the needs of the time. Today, we conduct a global business focused on electronics and ceramics and contribute to the creation of an affluent society.
As we approach our 100th anniversary in 2012, our Group is focusing on completing the consolidated medium-term management plan, the Global IBI-TECHNO 100 Plan. By further strengthening our business base, we will continue to move forward consistently and grow for the next 100 years, striving to be a company that is trusted by both the local and international communities.
Three Pillars of Our Activities

Mobile Device ComponentsMobile Device Components are Printed Wiring Board (PWB) and small & thin IC Package Substrate achieving further functionalization and higher density by means of IBIDEN’s unique technologies. These products are used today around the world in a wide variety of electronic devices, including smartphones, mobile devices, digital cameras, video-gaming consoles and mobile audio players.
● Roles of IC Package SubstrateNanometer wiring on IC chip does not directly interconnect with micrometer wiring on PWB (Printed Wiring Board). An IC package (a board with various electronic components mounted) makes it possible to bridge the nano- and micron-world as well as to protect IC chip from external dirt and humidity. IC package substrates are important components that function together with IC chip, and IBIDEN continually builds added value together with the improvement in IC chip technology.
● Roles of FCCSP SubstrateThis product is important components for connecting IC chips, which serve as the brain of a smartphone, to PWB (Printed Wiring Board). IBIDEN provides thin, high-density substrate that can be mounted with the latest flip chip (FC) to support a smartphone's various functions.

● Features of FVSS and the e-Flex SubstrateFree Via Stacked Up Structure (FVSS) enables free circuit design and high-density wiring, allowing electronic components to be mounted efficiently. Furthermore, the e-Flex substrate realizes space saving by combining FVSS and a bendable flex substrate to eliminate the use of a connector for connecting substrates. IBIDEN's innovative PWBs equipped with these superior features are used for the latest smartphones.

● The mechanism of DPF(1) As shown in the figure, the ends of alternate filter channels are plugged and the
Particulate Matter (PM, most of which is black smoke and soot) in the exhaust gas is trapped as it is forced through the filter wall.
(2) The PM accumulated inside the filter is periodically burned away by high-temperature exhaust heat.
● Advantage of using silicon carbideThe advantages of using silicon carbide (SiC) are (1) high heat resistance and (2) good thermal conductivity. DPFs, however, are designed to burn the filtered PM using fuel, which can affect fuel economy. For this reason, the number of burnings must be reduced by trapping as much PM as possible and burning it all off at once. SiC offers high heat resistance, and conducts heat quickly throughout the entire filter, which is effective when burning off accumulated PM.

In the category of Substrate Holding Mat (MAT), we also provide products that meet market trends, achieving a high reputation and share in the market. We will continue to develop high-performance products and to reduce damage to the environment for the next generation. (※The Company's estimate)

The IBIDEN Group can trace its history back to a program aimed at building a hydraulic power plant upstream on the Ibigawa River to supply hydroelectric power and attract industry, and thereby to help revitalize the nearby city of Ogaki. The Group was first established under the name Ibigawa Electric Company Co., Ltd. in 1912; over time, it began to use electricity to evolve into an electrochemical company.
CSR Information
Special Feature: The Power of Water and the IBIDEN Group
Business Using Clean EnergyThe IBIDEN Group owns three hydroelectric power plants—in Higashi-Yokoyama, Hirose and Kawakami—in the upstream section of the Ibigawa River in Gifu Prefecture. Hydraulic power generation uses the potential energy of water to create energy without global warming gas emissions including CO2. Over nearly a century since our foundation, we have been supplying this clean energy to support our operations.
● Hydraulic Power Plant That Supports the IBIDEN Group (25,700 kW in Total)
IBIDEN systematically renews the water supply tunnels and the power generation systems to continually upgrade maximal power generation capacity and enhance efficiency.
● Electricity Self-Sufficiency Rate of the IBIDEN GroupWith our private power generation activities centered on the hydroelectric power generation and co-generation systems, our electricity self-sufficiency rate was 60% in fiscal year 2010. This is a reduction of approximately 97 kt of CO2 compared to a hypothetical case in which all electricity is purchased.

Forest Building Activities: “IBIDEN’s Forest”In fiscal year 2008, we embarked on a forest building initiative as part of our global environmental protection activities. This activity takes place chiefly in Higashi-Yokoyama, the place where IBIDEN was founded, and where the Company operates its initial hydroelectric power generation business. Over the next 10 years, we will be planting trees, thinning the forests and conducting improvement cutting in the district, with an approximate total area of 40 hectares in the town of Ibigawa. Together with the local public, employees and their family members, we will continue to carry out sustainability activities aimed at maintaining harmony with nature.
● Offering a Place for Interaction with Employees, Their Families and the local Community
In collaboration with the local authorities, its residents, and nonprofit organizations (NPOs), we undertake projects ranging from tree planting activities, the maintenance of walking trails in planted areas and nature walks to community exchange using the forests and local cultures in the community of the Ibigawa River.
● Providing the Experience of Environmental ProtectionIn addition to engaging in reforestation projects to stop global warming, IBIDEN also provides a place where employees, their families and local residents can experience forest building.
