Today, collaboration is what drives innovation and competitive differentiation — in the workplace, the marketplace, and the classroom. Increasingly, that collaboration is global in scope, with more and more of us working on a daily basis with colleagues, partners, or clients who live in other countries, operate within cultural norms, and speak languages that are very different from our own. And enabling effective communication across these diverse ecosystems is key to strategy execution for a growing number of enterprises worldwide.

The IBM AbilityLab Sametime Language Translator helps transcend language barriers to support communication and drive new ideas across organizations by converting IBM Lotus Sametime instant messages into 10 different languages, including:

• Brazilian Portuguese• Chinese (Traditional and Simplified)• English• French• German• Japanese• Italian• Korean• Spanish

The easy way to bridge the global collaboration gapInstall the Sametime Language Translator plug-in to get started. Initiate a Sametime session by selecting a chat partner and typing your message. The AbilityLab Sametime Language Translator will “read” your message and translate it into the language you specify. When your words show up in your partner’s chat window, they appear in his or her native language.

To chat in a different language, click your partner’s name, click the globe icon and choose preferred languages for you and your chat partner. The next time you chat, AbilityLab Sametime Language Translator will automatically remember the settings to help ensure easy, seamless communication over time.

On demand translation to meet growing communication needsSametime Language Translator includes “translation mode” for on-the-spot translation of any misunderstood terms when chatting in a common language. Global colleagues can also use AbilityLab Sametime Language Translator outside of the Sametime instant message service to translate text files and Internet content. Simply activate translation assistance by clicking an icon on the main Sametime interface.

Finally, you can combine the capabilities of the AbilityLab Sametime Language Translator with the power of IBM AbilityLab Sametime Conference Transcriber to easily transcribe and translate a voice chat or Voice over IP (VoIP) conversation. The result is improved communication, enhanced productivity, and more meaningful collaboration on a global scale.
