In order to access the lab environment you need to install a VPN client. Please follow these instructions to install the Connect Tunnel client

Installation procedure for Connect Tunnel client: Windows operating systems
1. Listed below are the operating systems supported by the virtual private network (VPN) client. Please note that the VPN client has specific browser and installation requirements for the Windows operating systems.
After you have verified that your workstation meets the specified requirements, continue to Step 2 to download the VPN client package and installation instructions. If your workstation does not meet these requirements, contact support.
2. Download and run the Connect Tunnel client installation software. Click on
the link below that relates to the OS you are running. For 32-bit Windows: http://wtte-gateway1.pok.ibm.com/aventail_clients/ngsetup_en.exe For 64-bit Windows: http://wtte-gateway1.pok.ibm.com/aventail_clients/ngsetup64_en.exe
3. To begin the installation, locate and double-click the Dell Connect client
package you downloaded in step 2.
4. When the installation is complete, the Dell VPN Connection icon appears on the desktop.

5. From the desktop, double-click the Dell VPN Connection icon. If the icon
does not appear on the desktop, select Start > All Programs > Dell Secure Mobile Access > Dell VPN Connection.
6. When the Dell VPN Connection Setup Wizard window appears, click Next.
7. When prompted for the appliance host name or IP address, enter we-socks.pok.ibm.com. Click Next.

8. When prompted for the login group, select WED Realm from the drop-down
list. Click Next.
Note: There are other realms, but they are used by select groups. You will be notified by your administrator if you are to select a different realm. Here is a list of the other realms.
• Education Realm (Special use only) • ISSW Realm (ISSW sandbox users) • Local Realm (Special use only) • Rational Realm (Rational users) • WWBP Realm (WWBP users) • WED (Default realm for most users)

10. When the log in window appears enter username: connection_test and password: anonymous. Click Connect.
Note: The test connection user ID requires an underscore between connection and test (connection_test). IMPORTANT NOTE: This is NOT your student id and password that will be used for your upcoming class. That information will be either sent to you in your class email or given to you by the instructor during class.
From now on when you click the Dell VPN session icon from the desktop, this window will appear. For your class replace the default values with those provided to you for the class.
11. When the connection is complete, the Dell VPN session icon will appear in the icon tray. You can now proceed to access network resources assigned to you.
12. When you are finished working with network resources, right-click on the Dell VPN session icon located in the icon tray and click Disconnect.

13. Go to Test Network Access
Addendum:
1. In the event Dell automatically upgrades the client, the following window appears. This is a rare occurrence.
2. If challenged by a firewall, select the option to always permit the VPN
manager program to access the Internet (Symantec Client Firewall is shown as an example. Your firewall warning may differ.).
3. If prompted by a firewall, select the option to trust the network for the IBM Gateway – Columbus, Ohio network (Symantec Client Firewall is shown

After you have verified that your workstation meets the specified requirements, continue to Step 2 to download the VPN client package and installation instructions. If your workstation does not meet these requirements, contact support.

2. Download and run the Connect Tunnel client installation software. Click on
the link below that relates to the OS you are running. For 32-bit Linux: http://wtte-gateway1.pok.ibm.com/aventail_clients/ConnectTunnel-Linux.tar For 64-bit Linux: http://wtte-gateway1.pok.ibm.com/aventail_clients/ConnectTunnel-Linux64.tar
3. When you click on the above URL, click Save File and click OK.

5. Click Extract.
6. Click Create Folder.
7. Enter /tmp/DellVPN under Name, then Enter
8. Click Extract

10. If not logged in as root change to root.
11. From the command line change to /tmp/DellVPN and execute the command
./install.sh.

12. Status messages will appear during installation.
13. Enter the command: startct. When prompted for Appliance HOST/IP, enter:
we-socks.pok.ibm.com
14. Enter the number associated with the login group WED Realm and press
Enter.

After you have verified that your workstation meets the specified requirements, continue to Step 2 to download the VPN client package and installation instructions. If your workstation does not meet these requirements, contact support.
2. Download and run the Connect Tunnel client installation software. Click on
this link: http://wtte-gateway1.pok.ibm.com/aventail_clients/ConnectTunnel-OSX64.dmg 3. Download the ConnectTunnel-OSX64.dmg file.
4. Find the ConnectTunnel-OSX64.dmg file in the Downloads folder and
double-click it to begin the installation. 5. When the Connect Tunnel window appears, double-click the Connect
Tunnel.pkg file.

6. Click Continue on the Introduction window.
7. If prompted to select a destination, select the disk on which to install the
software and click Continue. 8. Click Install on the Installation Type window.

9. When the install has completed successfully, click Close.
10. Start the Connect Tunnel by selecting it from the Applications folder.
11. When the application opens, click Add configuration twice.

12. Enter the configuration Name and Server and click Save.
• Configuration Name: WebSphere Education • Host name: we-socks.pok.ibm.com
13. Click Connect to proceed with your first connection.

15. Enter the VPN Username connection_test and Password anonymous, and
click OK.

16. Once the connection is established, you see the Dell VPN Connection icon
in the status bar. The icon includes a green spot or a red X depending on if the state is connected or not.
17. When you are finished working with network resources, click on the Dell VPN
Connection icon located in the status bar and select Disconnect. 18. Go to Test Network Access

Test network access procedures: All operating systems
There are two tests you can run to ensure that your network connections are operating properly.
• Network speed test The speed test utility will test the network bandwidth between your
workstation and the IBM Gateway - Columbus, Ohio network. If you experience connectivity issues during the course, you may be asked to run this test and report the results to the support team or the course instructor.
• Resource access test If you are going to be accessing a VM image for class lab exercises, the resource connection test ensures that you can access a lab test image. The VPN session is operating properly if you are able to successfully access the test lab image. When your class begins you will be assigned a lab image that you will use to perform exercises.
Network speed test
1. Make sure you have an open VPN session to the IBM Gateway – Columbus, Ohio network.
2. Click speed test below. A new browser window will open. speed test
3. This network test checks the network bandwidth speed for your VPN session. To start the test, click Begin Test. The test will check both upload and download speeds.

4. Compare your test results against the legend:
• Less than 1.0 Mbps: Expect significant performance issues. • 1.0 Mbps – 2.0 Mbps: Expect adequate performance. • Greater than 2.0 Mbps: Expect excellent performance.
5. Test complete. Resource access test
1. Make sure you have an open VPN session to the IBM Gateway – Columbus, Ohio network.

2. Click lab test image below. A new browser window will open. lab test image
3. If prompted with a security warning, click Run. Optionally, you may check

4. The RealVNC logo and copyright will eventually appear in the upper-right
corner of the browser. To begin the new VNC Viewer connection, click Connect.
