Accellion and Box.com are one shop solutions for mobile file sharing and file access for enterprises. So they offer the server, file storage, the apps, the PC desktop sync, clients’ plugins and a bit more.

The main difference between Accellion and Box.com is that Accellion offers on-premises installation which box.com does not.

IBM Connections is the leading social software for enterprises.

Only the IBM Connections files part is related to the solutions like Accellion and Box.com. So let’s focus on this files part. With IBM Connections users can store files in personal and community libraries, in a real document management solution manner. IBM Connections delivers an great app as well, but this app is limited on file functionality compared with the apps that comes with solutions like Accellion and Box.com.

WebDAV is a standard, like http, TCPIP, meters, volts and kilograms. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WebDAV

http://www.webdav.org/

Lialis offers the WebDAV software to create the connection between IBM Connections files and several apps and programs that support WebDAV. Clients can install File Jockey on an on-premises IBM HTTP, Apache server or Lotus Domino server (in the DMZ). This WebDAV server will act as a translator / firewall between the WebDAV apps on the internet and the internal client IBM Connections servers.

About the apps. This is where the big difference lies. Users can choose the app they like to work with the files in IBM Connections via the File Jockey server. For example Goodreader, Notability, Pages, Numbers, iAnnotate and FolderSync (Android).

Goodreader is number 8 top paid apps for 2012. Notability is number 20. http://www.macobserver.com/tmo/article/apple_names_all-time_top_app_store_apps

All these apps support WebDAV and have special features the users will love. Lialis big selling point is that IBM, Accellion, Box.com will never be able to create great apps like the specialized app builders can and do.

That’s why Lialis choose to, not build a complete solution like Accellion does, but we choose to build the missing links between the best social solution IBM Connections and the leading business apps.

We have created these guides to show the users how to setup various apps on iPad, iPhone, and Android, Mac or Windows computer to work with the files stored in IBM Connections or Quickr delivered by IBM Greenhouse via the File Jockey cloud server for IBM Greenhouse. Feel free to try it out, no sign up.

File Jockey is the missing link between mobile device and IBM. We have written several other manuals in using apps combined with File Jockey and IBM Connections and Quickr.

More details about the File Jockey software can be found on http://www.file-jockey.com
