Additional Information

Manageability

Health Monitoring Tools: The Health Monitor is aserver-side tool that constantly monitors the health of theinstance without user interaction. If the Health Monitorfinds that a defined threshold has been exceeded, or itdetects an abnormal state for an object, the HealthMonitor will raise an alert. The Health Center provides agraphical interface to the Health Monitor. It is used toconfigure the Health Monitor, and to see the alert stateof your instances and database objects. Using the HealthMonitor′s drill-down capability, you can access detailsabout current alerts and obtain a list of recommendedactions describing how to resolve the alert. It provides amechanism to execute some of these recommendationsimmediately.

Web Health Center: DB2 V8 also provides a new WebHealth Center that can be used to access the HealthMonitor information from a Web browser or PDA, allowingyou to execute new DB2 commands. The MemoryVisualizer tool helps you to uncover and fixmemory-related problems on a DB2 instance. It usesvisual displays and plotted graphs to help you understandmemory components and their relationships to oneanother. You can invoke it from a Health Centerrecommendation, or use it on its own as a monitoring tool.

Enhancements to the LOAD Utility and the Load Wizard:Load operations now take place at the table level.Concurrent access to other table objects in the sametable space is possible during a load operation, whileallowing read access to the table being loaded.

A new locking option is introduced in this release thatforces applications to release the locks they have on aparticular table, allowing the load operation to proceed. In addition, the load utility itself now has a graphicalprogress monitor to easily monitor progress.

There are many diverse configuration options that canaffect a load. The Load Wizard groups the options intoaffected areas such as performance, recoverability, anddiagnostics. It then asks questions about each option tohelp guide the decision-making process to get the mosteffective result. The wizard also offers advice about howthe various options affect the rest of the system andprovides space and time estimates. Whether you wish toload data into a single partition, or a large number ofpartitions across a number of machines, the Load Wizardprovides the assistance and direction you need as adatabase administrator to get the job done right, and ina timely manner.

Improvements to Statistics Collection

• New options for usability (ON ALL COLUMNS, ON KEYCOLUMNS, ability to specify individual index names)

• New statistics for LIKE predicate processing

• Ability to specify distribution statistics limits at thetable and column level

• Ability to perform sampling for detailed index statisticsto improve performance

• Ability to gather statistics during index creation

Online Inspect and Improved Trace Performance: DB2V8 enhances the customer′s ability to examine anddiagnose error conditions by delivering a much improvedtrace facility with greatly improved performance and anonline Database Analysis and Recovery Tool (DB2DART).The new trace facility provides very low overhead,high-performance operation that allows customers tohave tracing activated in the most demanding productionenvironments. The ability to have trace active inproduction without adverse effects on operation allowscustomers to more easily diagnose error conditionswithout having to engage in off-line problemdetermination. The online DART tool allows databaseadministrators to verify the integrity of DB2 data on diskwithout taking the database off-line.

Other manageability enhancements are:

• Backup and recovery enhancements• Enhanced monitoring• Tivoli integration

For additional details, refer to the Manageability sectionin the Additional Information section.

Information Management System (IMS ) ControlCenter: IBM provides an IMS Control Center capabilityas an alternative GUI for the new IMS V8 OperationsManager through IMS Connect, greatly easing IMSoperations. The IMS Control Center capability will beintegrated with the DB2 UDB V8 administration tools inthe near future. A single user interface lets you controlboth IMS and DB2. The administration tools include aControl Center for navigating IMS Sysplex systems, wizards for creating the new IMS V8 Operations Managercommands, and a results window for sorting and filteringsingle-system image command results. The tools alsoinclude a Command Center for typing and executing boththe new commands and the old operations commands.

IMS Connect is being enhanced to allow the DB2 ControlCenter to communicate with the IMS V8 OperationsManager. Additional IMS Connect service streamenhancements include J2EE Connect or Architecturetwo-phase commit support, ipv6 support, and enhancedsecurity.

Load from Cursor (Cross-Loader): DB2 V8 LOADcommand has been enhanced to allow loading from acursor. This new option can be used to providehigh-speed transfer of data from any data source that canbe queried with a SELECT statement. For example, datacan be loaded into DB2 from a SELECT statement issuedagainst a DB2 for OS/390 table (via DB2 Connect ).By utilizing federated database feature DB2 and full

power of SQL, data can loaded from multipleheterogeneous remote databases and data sources. Forexample DB2 table can be loaded from a join of anInformix Dynamic Server table and data deliveredthrough an MQ message. An additional benefit of loadingfrom a cursor is the ability to complete load operation ina single step without a need for cumbersome export andfile transfer steps.

MQT Delta Refresh After Load: DB2 has enhanced thesupport for Materialized Query Tables (MQTs, previouslyknown as ASTs) to enable them to be incrementallyrefreshed after a load append operation. The MQT willbe available during the load operation and once the loadoperation completes, the data that was appended to thetable can be incrementally added to the MQT.

AUTOCONFIGURE Command: DB2 V8 introduces a newcommand that recommends and optionally applies newvalues for buffer pool sizes, database configuration, anddatabase manager configuration. This command providesinitial tuning for a database, to which additional tuningcan be applied. AUTOCONFIGURE can also be used withthe CREATE DATABASE command to configure databasesas soon as they are created.

New Storage Management Tool: A Storage Managementtool is now part of the GUI Control Center. From this toolyou can access the Storage Management view thatdisplays a snapshot of the storage for a particulardatabase, database partition group, or table space. Thistool can periodically capture and display statisticalinformation on a variety of storage objects.

Use the information displayed in this view to monitor andset thresholds for various aspects of your storage, suchas space usage for table spaces, data skew in databasepartitions, and index cluster ratio. A warning or alarmflag will let you know if a target object exceeds a specifiedthreshold.

Logging Enhancements: In V8, dual logging is providedon all platforms supported by DB2 UDB. The maximumamount of log space that can be defined has increasedfrom 32 GB to 256 GB. This provides support for moreconcurrent transactions and transactions that do morework.

DB2 V8 allows an active unit of work to span both activeand archive logs. A single transaction can access anumber of log files limited only by the total physicalstorage available across your primary and archivesystems. This support for “infinite active logs” can beused to support environments with large jobs that requiremore log space than you would normally allocate to theprimary logs.

The “block on log disk full” capability allows you to specifythat DB2 should not terminate when the log disk runs outof storage. When you enable this option, DB2 will retryevery five minutes allowing you to resolve the disk fullsituation followed by resumption of normal operation.

Backup and Recovery Enhancements: DB2 UDB V8includes several backup and recovery enhancements.

• During the recovery of a table space, only the log filesrequired to recover the table space are processed.Log files that are not required are skipped, thusimproving recovery time.

• The backup utility now supports backup solutions fromstorage vendors that have implemented the XBSAindustry-standard interface.

• A database created on a system with one code pagecan be backed up and then recovered to a system witha different code page.

• When using point in time (PIT) rollforward recovery, you can now specify the time as local time instead ofGreenwich Mean Time (GMT). Rolling forward to aspecific point in time is easier, and it eliminatespotential errors due to the translation of local to GMTtime.

Diagnostics and Serviceability Improvements: DB2 V8places diagnostics information in two distinct log files, depending on its intended use and target audience.

When significant events occur that may require DBAintervention, DB2 writes information to the administrationnotification log.

Diagnostic information about database operation errorsare recorded in the diagnostic db2diag.log file. Thisinformation is used for problem determination and isintended for DB2 customer support.

Support for Multiple Fixpacks on a Single System: DB2V8 will support multiple service (Fixpack) levelssimultaneously on the same system. This support is onlyavailable with DB2 UDB Enterprise Server Edition onUNIX platforms.

Support for multiple service levels allows the testing of anew service level while an older service level continuesto support a production environment. Once testing iscomplete, the production environment can be switched tothe new service level. Different applications that havebeen certified with different DB2 service levels can nowbe hosted on a single server.

Version Identifier for Packages: DB2 V8 provides theability to support multiple versions of the same package(database object associated with each application) in asingle system. This option allows:

• Multiple packages that share both the schema andpackage identification to coexist in the DB2 systemcatalogs

• Introduction and testing of a new version of anapplication on the system without affecting users ofthe existing version of the application

Database Maintenance Mode: In quiesced mode, theDBA can control who can access the database and limitdatabase activities to only those authorized users.

Enhanced Monitoring: Event monitors can now write datato SQL tables in addition to files or pipes. This providesthe following benefits:

• Storing the data in an SQL table means you can defineexactly which data elements you need to keep whilediscarding the rest. Storing the data in an SQL tablemakes it easy to prune the data using timestamps orother relational criteria.

• With event monitor data located in tables, users cannow query and aggregate data easily using SQLoperations.

• Event monitors that write to tables can capture dataon any or all database partitions. By inserting into thesame table on each database partition, DB2 deliversglobal event monitoring across the whole database.

Snapshot monitoring can now be done using SELECTstatements against a set of new table functions shippedwith DB2 V8. Taking snapshots using SQL enables you to

202-214 -2-

retrieve system status data without having to write anapplication that invokes the DB2 API interface. You cannow use all of the power of SQL to filter the data andcorrelate the different types of snapshot information.

Enhancements to the deadlock event monitor assist theDBA in determining why deadlocks occur. The deadlockevent monitor now provides more information than it didin previous releases by identifying which statements areinvolved in the deadlock, and by pinpointing which locksare held by each application involved in the deadlock.

Tivoli Integration: Advanced database manageability isachieved through IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Databases. The ITM for Databases product uses the new advancededition Distributed Monitoring product (called IBM TivoliMonitoring or ITM) and provides significant enhancementin monitoring capability based on the use of this newmonitoring engine. ITM for Databases provides DB2support through a Proactive Analysis Component (PAC).This PAC is tightly integrated with DB2 and provides anout-of-the-box set of monitors for quick deployment andactivation.

Performance and Scalability Enhancements

Connection Concentrator: The DB2 concentrator isbeneficial in a transactional workload environment whereeach transaction is of relatively short duration and thereis no requirement to use an external transaction managersuch as Encina or Microsoft Transaction Server (MTS).

Improved Performance of Databases with MultiplePartitions: DB2 V8 supports caching of system catalogand authorization data at each partition of a partitioneddatabase.

These caching enhancements will improve theperformance of workloads that perform a great numberof dynamic SQL or consist of a large number of databaseconnections that are short in duration, which is typical ofsome transactional workloads.

Improved Performance of DB2 Routines: DB2 V8 routines(stored procedures, user-defined functions, and methods)written in Java language are implemented using athread-based model that results in a dramaticperformance increase when many routines are runningat the same time. DB2 routines that are defined asthread-safe will be executed inside a single DB2 task, which will reduce the amount of context switching forusers that run large numbers of fenced mode routines. There is one task for all Java routines and one task forall non-Java routines.

Multidimensional Data Clustering: DB2 V8 marks theintroduction of multidimensional clustering (MDC)technology, which is an innovative method for flexible, continuous, and automatic organization and storage ofdata along multiple dimensions instead of the morecommon data clustering in a single dimension.

Using MDC to organize a table along multiple dimensionssuch as year and region can result in significantimprovement in query performance. Using MDC can alsosignificantly reduce the overhead of data maintenanceoperations, such as reorganization, and indexmaintenance during insert, update, and delete operations.

Prefetching Enhancement: In DB2 V8 the performance ofdata prefetching can be improved by creating block-basedbuffer pools. This facility enables a single block I/Ooperation to read multiple pages from disk into

contiguous pages of a DB2 buffer pool, which leads tobetter performance.

Faster Page Cleaners: DB2 V8 exploits asynchronous I/Ofacilities to improve I/O performance. This cansignificantly improve the performance of DB2 pagecleaning tasks, which flush modified buffer pool pages todisk.

User-Maintained MQTs: Many warehouses have customapplications that maintain and load tables that are, inreality, pre-computed data that represents the result of aquery. Designating a table as an MQT (formerly ASTs,automatic summary tables) can improve dynamic queryperformance without requiring users to modify the table.

With DB2 V8, an MQT (an AST whose capabilities havebeen enhanced for V8) can remain available during aload append operation on the underlying table.

After the load of the underlying table is complete, theMQT may be refreshed incrementally using only theappended data, which significantly reduces the refreshtime. This improves the availability of MQTs to yourusers.

Type-2 Indexes: DB2 V8 adds support for type-2 indexes. This provides improved concurrency, and the ability toinvoke online reorganization and online load utilities. They are required for the new multidimensional clusteringfacility.

Support for 64-bit Windows and 64-bit Linux: DB2Universal Database will take the next leap inperformance and scalability on 64-bit Windows and 64-bitLinux platforms by exploiting systems built around the64-bit IPF processors from Intel . Systems built aroundItanium and Itanium 2 processors will also be supported.

In addition, DB2 V8 for Windows exploits the features ofIntel Xeon MP processors by taking advantage of the newhyper-threading feature developed by Intel.

Replication Enhancements: DB2 V8 Replication featuresimproved usability, reliability, performance, serviceability, and security.

The new DB2 Replication Center is a user interface toolthat you can use to set up and administer your replicationenvironment. It supports administration for DB2-to-DB2replication environments, and administration forreplication between DB2 and non-DB2 relationaldatabases. Part of the DB2 Control Center set of tools, the Replication Center includes all of the replicationfunctionality previously available from the DB2 ControlCenter and the DB2 DataJoiner ReplicationAdministration (DJRA) tool.

Use the Replication Center to:

• Define defaults in profiles for creating control tables, source objects, and target objects

• Create replication control tables

• Register replication sources

• Create subscription sets and add subscription-setmembers to subscription sets

• Operate the capture program

• Operate the apply program

• Monitor the replication process

The Replication Center also includes a launchpad thatallows you to perform the basic functions needed to set

-3- 202-214

up a DB2 replication environment. The launchpad alsoshows you graphically how the different steps are relatedto one another.

Basic replication performance has improved with JOINseliminated in many situations, multithreaded capture, andfaster full refreshes of target tables by exploiting DB2LOAD improvements.

Availability Enhancements

Online Load Index Reorganization Utility: New in DB2 V8is the ability to read and update a table and its existingindexes during an index reorganization using the REORGINDEXES command.

• Online Load Utility: With DB2 V8, you now have readaccess to the existing portion of a table during a loadappend operation.

• Online Reorganization Utility: DB2 V8 enhancesdatabase availability by allowing you to reorganizetables while permitting read and write online tableaccess.

Online Configuration Parameters: DB2 V8 improvesavailability characteristics with the capability to modifykey database and database manager configurationparameters online so that they take immediate effect. This gives you more flexibility for deciding when tochange the configuration to better suit current workloadcharacteristics.

In some cases you can set a parameter to be automatic, which allows DB2 to adjust the parameter′s value withoutuser intervention as workload on the system changes.

Online Buffer Pool Operations: Efficient memorymanagement is one of the key aspects of performancetuning. In DB2 V8, you can change how DB2 uses memorywithout stopping database activity. You can also add, drop, and change the size of a buffer pool withoutstopping database activity.

Enhanced Table Space Container Operations: Tablespaces that use Database-Managed Storage mechanism(DMS table spaces) support new operations that allow youto drop a container from a table space, reduce the sizeof existing containers, and add new containers to a tablespace without rebalancing. These operations allowgreater flexibility in managing physical storage, such asability to reclaim over-allocated space.

All of these operations can be accomplished online withfull access to the table space.

INSERT through UNION ALL Views: The SQL INSERTstatement is now supported for views that use a UNIONALL construction. This augments the UPDATE andDELETE capabilities provided in previous releases.

Definition of a UNION ALL view over separate tables canbe useful in an HSM environment where the view mayrange over a number of tables with some tables beingstored by HSM on tertiary storage while other tables arestored on disk.

The UNION ALL technique can also be used to deliverimproved database scalability by allowing complete SQLfunctionality through a view, while at the same timemaintaining database manageability through granularmaintenance of individual tables.

Application Development

SQL is the language of DB2. With every release, DB2enhances the SQL language to ensure that applicationprogrammers have rich language to improve theirproductivity and improve performance while adhering tothe industry standards for SQL. V8 is no exception. SQLenhancements in DB2 V8 are standards-based andprovide function that simplifies application development.

V8 further enhances the power of the DB2 SQL languageby introducing new SQL statements such as MERGE, andenhancing existing SQL by providing support for INSERTthrough UNION ALL, adding support for INSTEAD OFTRIGGER, ORDER BY and FETCH FIRST in subqueries, and supporting SQL queries in user defined functions. There are also significant enhancements to the CALLstatement as well as addition of numerous new functions.Scrollable Cursors also benefit from several importantenhancements.

All of the key application drivers, ODBC, DB2 CLI, JDBC,SQLJ, and Embedded SQL, have been rearchitected formuch higher performance and greatly reduced resourceutilization. The new driver architecture provides excellentsupport for application servers with heavy work loads. Inaddition, key new features have been implemented ineach of the drivers and a new Type 4 driver is nowavailable.

DB2 V8 delivers industry-leading support for XML, thestandard data interchange for the next generation ofbusiness-to-business solutions. XML document storageand retrieval forms an integral part of DB2 and isprovided as a combination of SQL language (library ofXML functions) and DB2 XML Extender enhancements.

Web Services is a key emerging technology forintegrating applications and building applications fromcomponents. DB2 V8 delivers industry leading WebServices support by providing DBAs with ability topresent stored procedures and SQL statements as WebServices and for application developers with ability to usethese Web Services without having intimate knowledgeof the details of their implementation. DB2 V8 can alsoact as a consumer of Web Services, presenting dataprovided by a Web service as if it was stored in DB2.

More application developers build applications withcomponent-based architectures, including applicationsthat are based on Java 2 Platform Enterprise Edition(J2EE) and Java beans as components, Microsoft COM,and the new .NET architecture. Web Services is anemerging technology that takes component-basedapplication development to a new level. DB2 V8 improveson existing support for both Java and Microsoftcomponent architectures, and also deliversindustry-leading support for Web Services. XML hasbecome the lingua franca of data interchange betweenapplications and systems. DB2 V8 also delivers leadingsupport for working with XML through improvements inSQL and the XML Extender.

Development Center is a replacement for the StoredProcedure Builder. It offers application developersfacilities to build, debug, test, and deploy Java and SQLstored procedures, SQL functions, and table functions thatread MQSeries messages, access OLE DB data sourcesand extract data from XML documents.

Development Center: Database server-side businesslogic (stored procedures, user-defined functions andstructured data types) is an important part of manywell-designed applications. DB2 Development Centerprovides an easy-to-use development environment that

202-214 -4-

greatly simplifies the entire process of building storedprocedures, user-defined functions (UDFs), and structureddata types. It helps with developing, debugging, testing, and deployment of these application objects for DB2servers. z/OS. While it provides support for developingand debugging server-side logic in Java and ProceduralSQL, stored procedures written in any language (forexample, COBOL) can be tested within the DevelopmentCenter.

DB2 Development Center also provides an integrateddebugger for debugging stored procedures and usabilityenhancements that allow programmers to browsecontents of remote databases, as well as numerousproject management features.

To improve programmer productivity in Microsoftenvironments, the Development Center also provides aDB2 Add-In for Microsoft, Visual C++, Visual Basic, andVisual InterDev. With the add-ins, you can easily developDB2 server-side logic without leaving your Microsoftdevelopment environment.

WebSphere Studio plug-ins and Microsoft VisualStudioadd-ins allow programmers using these integrateddevelopment environments (IDE) to build completeapplications, including DB2 server business logic (storedprocedures and user defined functions) without leavingthe comfort of their favorite IDE.

These plug-ins extend WebSphere Studio functionality toinclude development of DB2 server-side application logic.

Applications that generate large amounts of data thatneed to be loaded into a table can now use a CallLevel Interface (CLI) API that invokes the DB2 LOADutility instead of using an array insert method. Using thisoption provides significant performance benefit forloading large amounts of data without the need to createan intermediate flat file.

WebSphere Studio Site Developer V5 and WebSphereApplication Server Advanced for Developers V4: Thesecomplementary products provide DB2 applicationdevelopers with tools for building, debugging, and testingDB2 stored procedures and user-defined functions.WebSphere Studio Site Developer also provides fullfeature XML-to-relational schema mapping environmentto utilize the native XML capabilities of DB2 UDB.Dynamic Web applications can be created using the latestWeb Services framework that encapsulate DB2 serverlogic such as SQL statements, and stored procedures asWeb Service providers. WebSphere Application ServerAdvanced for Developers provides a Java 2 Platform,Enterprise Edition 1.3 (J2EE) compliant server that can beused for development and testing of applications basedon J2EE architecture. The use of these complementaryproducts is restricted by a DB2-specific set of terms andconditions. Consult license information for additionalinformation.

SQL Assist Enhancements: With SQL Assist and someknowledge of SQL, you can create SELECT, INSERT,UPDATE, and DELETE statements. SQL Assist is a toolthat uses an outline and details panels to help youorganize the information that you need to create an SQLstatement.

DB2 V8 enhancements include:

• A redesigned user interface for easy inspection andmodification of SQL statement elements

• Assistance for creating table joins

• SQL syntax checking

• The option to copy and paste an existing SQLstatement into SQL Assist, then use the SQL Assistinterface to make modifications

Note: SQL Assist V7.2 remains in the Data WarehouseCenter.

SQL Enhancements

Instead of Triggers: This type of trigger can simplifyapplication programming. It allows developers to codeinserts, updates, and deletes against views, while theactual update operation is re-directed to the appropriateunderlying table.

Insert through UNION ALL Views: The SQL INSERTstatement is now supported for views that use a UNIONALL construction, augmenting the UPDATE and DELETEcapabilities provided in previous releases.

New Built-in Functions: The following trigonometricfunctions have been added to the SYSIBM schema:

• ATANH• COSH• SINH• TANH• ACOS• ASIN• ATAN• ATAN2• COS• COT• SIN• TAN

ATANH, COSH, SINH, and TANH are new. The otherfunctions were available under the SYSFUN schema;having them in SYSIBM offers a performance advantage.

TRUNCATE, CEILING, and FLOOR have also been addedto the SYSIBM schema. These built-in functions nowsupport decimal values.

Informational Constraints: DB2 V8 introduces a new typeof constraint called informational constraints.

The DB2 query optimizer can be enabled to perform queryoptimization on application-enforced constraints that DB2knows about but does not enforce. Use of suchinformational constraints can eliminate the overhead ofDB2 performing constraint checking, while still providingthe benefit of optimized query performance. Notenforcing constraints by the database manager reducesthe workload on DB2 while still retaining the performanceadvantage of performing query optimization in order toimprove performance.

User-Defined Functions and Methods: Externaluser-defined functions and methods can now containread-only SQL statements. Both static and dynamic SQLcan be used. Other routines can be called from a functionor method. Such nesting can include recursive calls ofthe routine and may invoke routines written in differentlanguages. Some attributes of functions and methods cannow be changed using the ALTER statement, rather thanby dropping and recreating the routine.

Stored Procedures: The CALL statement is now a fullycompiled statement. This means that the CALL statementcan now be dynamically prepared in CLI, ODBC, JDBC,and SQLJ. Input arguments to a procedure call can beexpressions. Some attributes of stored procedures cannow be changed using the ALTER statement, rather than

-5- 202-214

by dropping and recreating the routine. The limit of 90parameters for SQL procedures has been removed.

Secure External Routines: A new authority has beendefined to explicitly control who can and cannot createexternal routines (functions, methods, and procedures).Restricting who can create external routines is important;an external routine (especially a routine that is definedas THREADSAFE) can interfere with the execution of otherexternal routines or with the database manager.

Declared Global Temporary Table Enhancements:Enhancements to declared global temporary tables(DGTTs) include:

• Index support: the ability to create indexes using theCREATE INDEX statement.

• Undo logging supports the rollback of data changes toDGTTs.

• Statistics support: improved performance as a resultof using the RUNSTATS command to update statisticsabout the physical characteristics of the DGTT.

• Merge. Allows for a single SQL statement to insertedrecords into a table when the record does not alreadyexist or update the record if the row already exists inthe target table.

API Enhancements

ODBC, DB2 CLI Driver and ADO API Enhancements

• Server-side scrollable cursors for easier applicationdevelopment and better performance.

• Reduced resource contention for multithreadedapplications.

• Separate memory pools for lower resource contention.

• Improved context support makes developing X/OpenXA applications easier.

• Simplified development of applications using mixedEmbedded SQL and CLI/ODBC model.

• Higher function and more efficient ADO interfacethrough Extended Describe (table names from columnnames, leads to more efficient scrollable cursors).

• Support for calls to nested and recursive storedprocedures.

• Improved handling of repeated calling of the samestored procedure that returns result sets. This willhelp eliminate many of the “cursor already open” errorconditions common in this configuration.

• Utilize the new SQL CALL statement to dynamicallyprepare (for example, use package cache) for betterperformance.

• Reduced server load through off-load of code pageconversion to the client from the database server.

• Enhanced support for distributed transactions inMicrosoft COM+ (Microsoft Transaction Server)environments.

JDBC Driver and SQLJ Enhancements: Many newfeatures and enhancements have been put into the JDBCdrivers in DB2 V8. The most important of them is the newarchitecture that will ultimately deliver significantperformance and scalability improvements for JDBC andSQLJ, and any applications built with the DB2 JDBCdrivers. Here is a list of the major changes:

• A brand new type 4 JDBC driver built with the newarchitecture. This two-tier, pure-Java driver simplifiesthe deployment and configuration process. It isdesigned to replace the type 3 driver.

• Type 2 and type 3 driver usability and performanceenhancements. The drivers are made available on64-bit platforms. Memory management is enhanced, which makes the drivers more robust and betterperforming. JDBC tracing is improved to providebetter diagnostics. Support for DATALINK as a datatype is also added. DATE, TIME, and TIMESTAMPvalues now can be set or retrieved for a particular timezone using a Calendar object. Unicode support isenhanced, so that unnecessary code page conversionbetween a DB2 client and a DB2 server whenconnecting to a Unicode database (which may causedata loss) is eliminated. OUTPUT LOB parametersupport for CallableStatement is added. Theperformance of PreparedStatements is improved.FetchSize for ResultSets is supported by the type 3JDBC driver.

• The type 2 driver is now J2EE-certified. It continues tobe the recommended driver to be used by applicationservers such as WebSphere Application Server andother enterprise solutions.

• The new SQLJ profile customizer supports thejava.sql.Blob and java.sql.Clob types of JDBC 2.0, aswell as host variable expressions.

XML Support: Many relational database systems are notequipped to deal with XML documents. Programmers hadto choose between using an XML-based databasemanagement system, writing custom code to transformdata between relational and XML forms, or storing XMLdocuments in their entirety as binary objects therebygiving up the benefit of understanding the businesscontext that XML documents represent. DB2 offers analternative. It allows programmers to:

• Store XML documents intact with XML tags, yetprovide fast search and retrieval by creating relationalside tables and indexes.

• Automatically transform XML documents intotraditional relational representation (rows and columnsin relational tables), and to automatically create XMLdocuments from relational data.

For customers who choose to use automatictransformations between relational data and XMLdocuments, DB2 provides additional flexibility.Programmers have a choice of declaring a mappingbetween XML elements/attributes and relational rows andcolumns using Document Access Definitions (DAD) files,or using built-in SQL functions (XMLELEMENT,XMLATTRIBUTES, REC2XML, and XMLAGG). These SQLfunctions can be used to produce XML documents orfragments with an element or an attribute whose specificname is derived from a column in the database, or withelements and attributes which have default names, andto combine multiple XML strings.

XML programmers spend a considerable amount of efforttransforming XML documents to other data forms. Forexample, transforming XML to HTML is common in Webprogramming while transforming between different XMLschemas is a staple of business-to-business systems. These transformations are accomplished using XSLTransformations (XSLT). DB2 provides SQL functions thatautomatically apply XSLT to XML documents. Results ofthese transformations are stored in DB2, provided toother systems via Web Service or can be stored in a filesystem where they can be used to serve Web pages.

202-214 -6-

In addition to the flexible XML storage options, DB2 allowsprogrammers to manipulate XML documents by usingSQL instead of the DOM and SAX APIs commonly usedby XML programmers. DB2 provides SQL functions forimporting and exporting XML documents between DB2and the file system extracting XML document fragments, elements and attribute values, and updating XMLdocuments. DB2 also provides SVALIDATE andDVALIDATE SQL functions to assist programmers invalidating XML documents against XML Schema or DTD.These functions are flexible enough to use XML Schemasand DTDs stored in DB2 or the local file system andindustry defined schemas stored on remote Web servers, for example:

http://www.xml.org

To complement XML storage and processing options, DB2provides several alternatives for both the source anddestination of the XML data. XML documents canoriginate or be output as files, come from other systemsor be delivered to other systems via MQSeries. XMLschemas and DTDs used in document validation can belocated locally in either DB2 or a local file system or beobtained from remote servers.

Included in DB2 are the tools typically used by XMLprogrammers. DB2 provides XML parsers (XML4C,XML4J) and XML stylesheet processors (Xalan-C andXalan-J). More importantly, DB2 XML capability is tightlyintegrated into WebSphere Studio products for improvedprogrammer productivity. WebSphere Studio products forDB2 XML includes DAD generator, DAD checker, and aDTD to XML schema transformer.

DB2 XML Extender: XML is the standard for datainterchange for the next generation ofbusiness-to-business, e-commerce solutions. With theXML Extender for DB2, it is easy to leverage your criticalbusiness information in DB2 databases to engage inbusiness-to-business solutions using XML-basedinterchange formats.

DB2 XML Extender provides new data types that let youstore XML documents in DB2 databases and newfunctions that assist you in working with these structureddocuments. Entire XML documents can be stored in DB2databases as character data or stored as external filesbut still managed by DB2. Retrieval functions allow youto retrieve either the entire XML document or individualelements or attributes. Included with all editions of DB2UDB, the DB2 XML Extender:

• Extracts XML elements and attributes into traditionalSQL data types, leveraging the sophisticated indexingand SQL query of DB2

• Provides storage, retrieval, and updates of XMLdocuments in a single column

• Composes existing DB2 data into XML documents

• Stores XML documents as a collection of DB2 data, inmultiple columns and tables

Web Services Applications: Web Services are a powerfulnew programming paradigm that enables thedevelopment and deployment of loosely coupledapplications within a company or across industries. WebServices are based on emerging technologies includingSimple Object Access Protocol (SOAP), Web ServicesDescription Language (WSDL), and Universal Description,Discovery, and Integration (UDDI).

A Web service is created by wrapping an application sothat it can be accessed using XML messages which, inturn, are wrapped to mask the underlying transport

protocol. The service is publicized in a standard formatregistry, allowing people and applications to find and usethe service over the Web. DB2 can be accessed as a Webservice provider, and it is usually teamed with WebSpherefamily products to provide a complete Web servicesframework. An easy way to develop data-intensive WebServices applications is through DB2′s document accessdefinition extension (DADx) programming model. DADxfiles are simply XML documents that contain storedprocedure references, DB2 XML Extender references, ortraditional SQL. Best of all, DADx files can be createdquickly without any Java programming.

For a demonstration of DB2 as a Web service provider, view the IBM Video Central for e-business tutorial at:

Integrated Information

DB2 has established its reputation as a data managementplatform that can be easily extended to accommodaterequirements of new technologies. This is based on anextensible architecture providing a strong foundation ofinformation integration technologies and enriched datatypes.

Information Integration Foundation: Informationintegration is a key element of IBM′s overall DataManagement direction, differentiating us from Oracle andMicrosoft and their centralized or platform-specific datamanagement approach. DB2 provides a strongfoundation of information integration technologies, including federation, caching, replication, Web services, and XML.

Federation: DB2 is the core federation engine, whichprovides data source transparency, rich query, andtransformation features for federated data sources, functional compensation, and global optimization fordistributed data access. DB2 lets you access and update

your DB2 and Informix Dynamic Server (IDS) data sourcesno matter where they reside. DB2 Connect enablesfederation for zSeries and iSeries . Through itsobject-relational technology infrastructure, DB2 providesbuilt-in functions that enable federated access to MQSeries message queues, and OLE DB data sources. Thusa single DB2 query can access and integrate data acrossrelational databases, message queues, and OLE DB datasources.

With DB2 UDB V7, DB2 Relational Connect providesfederated connectivity to Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, and Sybase databases and DB2 Life Sciences DataConnect provides federated connectivity to spreadsheets, flat files, XML documents, and Life Science specific datasources. These features will not be offered directly withDB2 V8, but will be reintroduced in a subsequentannouncement. In the interim, customers using eitherfeature should remain on DB2 UDB V7.2 until IBMannounces an upgrade path.

Replication: DB2 UDB V8 provides integrated replicationamong DB2 and IDS. DB2 DataPropagator enablesreplication to and from DB2 on zSeries and iSeries. DB2V8 replication features improved usability, reliability, performance, serviceability, and security.

The new DB2 Replication Center is a graphical tool, partof the DB2 Control Center, that helps you to set up andadminister your replication environment. Web Services: Web services are a powerful newparadigm in building open systems, enabling thedevelopment and deployment of loosely coupledapplications within a company or across manyenterprises. They are based on emerging industrystandards including Simple Object Access Protocol(SOAP), Web Services Description Language (WSDL),Universal Description, Discovery, and Integration (UDDI).

Web services can be easily created by wrapping existingapplications, masking the underlying implementation andtransport mechanisms. These newly created services arethen publicized in a standard format registry, allowingpeople and applications to find and use the services overthe Web. The published Web services can be combinedin many ways, providing a building block approach tosystem development which leverages existingapplications and infrastructure.

-9- 202-214

DB2 supports Web services in a variety of ways. DB2stored procedures or user-defined functions can bewrapped and invoked as Web services. Alternatively,DB2 applications can invoke Web services directlythrough SQL, allowing queries to join Web service results, like a current stock price, with data stored in thedatabase.

XML: XML is emerging as a key language for informationinterchange and integration. With this evolution, thedemands on database systems to store, compose, validate, decompose, and manipulate XML documents areincreasing rapidly. DB2′s built-in XML support providesthese capabilities, and allows XML documents to be eitherstored intact or transformed into relational form. DB2V8.1 includes enhancements in support of SQLXstandards for publishing XML data, as well as XMLExtender enhancements in storage and retrieval. DB2also enables the publishing of XML documents composedfrom diverse and distributed sources, as well as theability to decompose and store XML documents acrossDB2 and IDS data stores. To complement XML storageand processing options, DB2 provides severalalternatives for both the source and destination of XMLdata. XML documents can originate or be generated asfiles, come from other systems or be delivered to othersystems via MQSeries. XML schemas and DocumentType Definitions (DTDs) used in document validation canbe stored locally in either DB2 or a local file system, orbe obtained from remote servers.

Enriched Data Type Support

DB2 Spatial Extender: Time and space are thecornerstones of twenty-first century data warehouses.Spatial objects deals with the location of objects withregard to surroundings, including those that comprise theearth′s surface and those that occupy it. They make upthe natural environment (such as rivers, forests, and hills)and the cultural environment (cities, office buildings, andlandmarks). Eighty percent of existing data has impliedspatial value, such as names and addresses, which canbe converted to explicit spatial values you can use tomake more informed business and policy decisions. Thisdata can be further enhanced by viewing results on amap. DB2 Spatial Extender allows you to store, access, manage and analyze spatial information along with therest of your business data. It provides spatial data typesto describe spatial data and allows you to leverage thepower of SQL, including spatial functions, for spatial dataretrieval and analysis. DB2 Spatial Extender continues itssupport of industry standards with its Open GISConsortium Simple Features conformance and ISO SQLstandard support.

Note 1: The support for DB2 platform/component combinationsmarked with (*) in the tables above will be delivered aspart of the periodic maintenance.

Note 2: DPF is not supported on Linux zSeries.

Note 3: Using development center, one can only debug Javastored procedures running on DB2 servers on 32 bit Windows,AIX, and Solaris operating systems.

Additional Software Requirements by Product

Intelligent Miner Products

• DB2 Intelligent Miner Visualization requires JRE 1.3.1on all platforms except Windows

• DB2Intelligent Miner Modeling and DB2 IntelligentMiner Scoring require DB2 V7.2 or DB2 V8.1

Limitations: For known limitations, refer to Part 1 of“Known limitations, problems, and workarounds” sectionof the DB2 UDB V8 Release Notes at:

http://www.ibm.com/software/data/db2/udb/v8releasenotes.html

Planning information

Agreement: Customers are responsible for determiningtheir license requirements with DB2 Programs. The DB2license entitlements are by users, processors, andinstallations.

User Entitlement: There are two methods of countingusers of the DB2 product and of determining the requireduser entitlements. Customers should plan on which of thetwo methods should be applied to the DB2 serverproducts based on usage requirements, and then obtain

additional user entitlements to the extent required. Thetwo methods are counting concurrent users and countingregistered users.

The definition of concurrent and registered users is asfollows:

• Concurrent Users: A concurrent user is a person, application, or device that has established aconnection to one or more databases on one server.A user with multiple connections to a single servercounts as only one concurrent user. The one exceptionis where multiple connections are made by amultiplexing program, application server, or otherprogram that connects to DB2 providing access onbehalf of other users. When this exception occurs ina DB2 Workgroup Server Edition environment, userscannot be counted properly, so customers mustpurchase the Connect Unlimited Edition, or InternetProcessor license of the Workgroup Edition for Webconnection. When these configurations are in use, customers need to consider each concurrent user ofthat program as a concurrent DB2 user. In theconcurrent user model, the customer must ensure thateach server is licensed for the maximum number ofusers that will use that server product at any one time.

The concurrent user licensing model is the only choicein situations where the identity of users is unknown. The concurrent user model is also appropriate whereusers require only occasional access to a particularserver.

• Registered Users: A registered user is a person, application, or device entitled to establish one or moreconnections to any authorized server install of a DB2Universal Database or DB2 Connect product in thecustomer′s enterprise, either directly or through amultiplexing program or application server.Registered users are counted, and DB2 Userentitlements are not transferable between products.Customers should compare the total number of usersrequiring access to the DB2 server product with thesum of user entitlements provided with each installlicense, and obtain additional user entitlements, ifrequired.

Registered users may be the appropriate choice wherethere are many users, for example, at clientworkstations, who need to access databases onmultiple database servers, or who connect todatabases for long periods of time. Determiningrequired licensing and monitoring the licensingrequirements is the responsibility of the customer.

Special Licensing Considerations

Licensing of Standby Servers

In idle standby or active standby, you must acquirecorrect number of server installs and the correct numberof users.

DB2 Workgroup Server Editions

A DB2 Workgroup Server Edition server, when configuredwith high-availability software solely for use as an idlestandby for one or more active DB2 Workgroup ServerEdition licenses, customers must obtain one server install. No additional user requirements need to be acquired inthe idle standby server. A DB2 Workgroup Server Editionor license installed and used as an active standby serverand configured as a backup for one or more other DB2Workgroup Server Edition server must be licensed for oneserver install and the number of users accessing theserver before failover. Should failover occur, the userlicenses from a failed DB2 Workgroup Server Edition are

202-214 -16-

transferred to the active standby machine. Customersmust ensure with this transfer of entitlement, the standbybackup machine is fully licensed. For example, if theactive server is licensed for 50 users and the standbyserver is licensed for 80 users, after failover, the activestandby server is licensed for 130 users.

WSUE, ESE, WHM, DLM, NSE, SPE, IMSC, DPF. Theseprograms, when configured with high-availability softwareare solely for use as an idle standby for one or moreactive DB2 Program licenses. Customers need to obtainone processor entitlement for the idle standby machine. When the program is installed and used as an activestandby, the program needs to be licensed for the numberof processors on the active standby server. For example,if the active standby machine has four processors thenyou must purchase four licenses.

IMMO, IMSC. In idle standby or active standby, you mustacquire the correct number of server installs: In idlestandby, you must license the program for one serverinstall. In active standby, you must license the programin the active standby server for one server install.

For specific product restrictions on HighAvailability/Failover Licensing: This applies to WSE,WSUE, ESE, WHM, DLM, NSE, SPE, IMVI, IMMO, and IMSC.For details on restrictions, refer to the unique licenseinformation provided with each product electronically.

DB2 UDB Workgroup Server Edition and DB2 UDBWorkgroup Server Unlimited Edition: DB2 UDB WorkgroupServer Edition or DB2 UDB Workgroup Server UnlimitedEdition license does not permit creating 64-bit instanceson servers where the products are installed. DB2Universal Database Workgroup Server Edition and DB2Connect Enterprise Edition are not allowed to be installedon the same machine.

Connection Concentrator may not be used with WSE orWSUE. WSUE must be licensed for all processors in theserver.

DB2 Warehouse Manager Connectors

DB2 Warehouse Manager Connector for SAP R/3, and DB2Warehouse Manager Connector for the Web are optionalchargeable features of DB2 Warehouse Manager V8.1.Use authorization of each option is required and must beacquired separately. The entitlement of each WarehouseManager Connector is per install per processor andcustomers are responsible for acquiring the correct optionfor the Connector they want to install and use.
