IBM Service ManagementExtensions for HybridCloudIntegrate, manage and secure public and private clouds

Highlights● Manage off-premise resources to the

same standard—and with the same

infrastructure—as resources inside

enterprise walls

● Simplify management with a single

physical or virtual appliance

● Enable application integration and plat-

form and infrastructure management with

one unified graphical user interface (GUI)

Businesses are increasingly turning to hybrid cloud solutions to reducecosts and enable more scalable and flexible business processes. A hybridcloud is a seamless and transparent combination of public and privateclouds that uses a highly virtualized, on-premise infrastructure andmerges with public cloud resources to increase efficiency, scalability anddependability. This seamless integration also helps extend security, con-trol and transparency to all IT assets and environments regardless of theirphysical location.

However, hybrid cloud environments involve complex management challenges. First, organizations struggle to maintain control over theresources that lie outside of their managed IT scope. They also needgreater infrastructure visibility to help reduce maintenance costs andensure that their company data and resources are properly handled and secured.

To help manage these challenges, organizations need solutions that aredesigned for a blended management environment. They have to secureresources and data both inside and outside of their physical control. Ablended solution must also provide a uniform management standard forautomation, governance, monitoring and security without the need fortraditional infrastructure and service management capabilities.

The solution provides centralized management capabilities to help provide a

unified view of hybrid cloud data and compute resources.

Advanced technology for integration andmanagementService Management Extensions for Hybrid Cloud from IBM combine application integration, infrastructure manage-ment and IT governance in a highly secure way that extendsservice delivery and management capabilities regardless of location. This holistic approach to interoperability, resiliencyand application management helps ensure highly efficient workload delivery and seamless end-user experiences across the enterprise.

The IBM solution provides simple and secure configuration andmanagement of resources on both public and private clouds.Integration capabilities allow clients to manage and incorporatepublic cloud resources into their existing processes, manage-ment and business systems. By combining integration technol-ogy from IBM® WebSphere® Cast Iron® and IBM Tivoli®enterprise management capabilities, the hybrid solution enablesorganizations to:

● Improve cloud control and management. Govern how andwhere cloud resources are used by applying on-premise poli-cies, monitoring and performance rules to public cloud users. This enables organizations to more easily manage costs, ITcapacity and regulatory requirements.

● Increase security. Increase control over user access bysynching the user directories of on-premise and cloud appli-cations. With automated synchronization, users can gainentry only to the information they are authorized to access.

● Expand application integration. Use a simplified “configu-ration, not coding” approach to application integration. Thesolution combines the power of native connectivity withindustry-leading applications to provide best practices forrapid and repeatable project success.

● Support dynamic provisioning. Enable “cloud bursting”—the dynamic relocation of workloads from private environments to public clouds during peak times—withIBM monitoring, provisioning and integration capabilities.IBM technical and business policies control this sophisticateddata integration.

Service Management Extensions for Hybrid Cloud provide centralized management into which an expanding number ofon-to-off premise cloud integration solutions can be built. Itextends the existing service- and user-provisioning, monitoringand governance capabilities of Tivoli software to unify hybridcloud data and compute resources.

Extending service managementcapabilitiesBy helping organizations manage off-premise resources at the same standard as resources inside enterprise walls, Service Management Extensions for Hybrid Cloud enableorganizations to manage some of their toughest challenges.

They can increase control over owned resources, better managecosts and data relocation processes, and help ensure the securityof critical data and other assets.

The solution provides key capabilities that:

● Enable secure application access across off-premise environments

● Provide an integrated monitoring dashboard for unified visibility

● Automate workload balancing based on the dynamics of system load

● Integrate with back-office and software-as-a-service (SaaS)applications such as SAP and SalesForce.com

● Allow organizations to buy the functionality they need todayand expand as cloud needs change

Service Management Extensions for Hybrid Cloud extend thecapabilities of Tivoli service management and delivery solu-tions, including IBM Tivoli Service Automation Manager,

which enables users to request, deploy, monitor and managecloud computing services to create a more modern and dynamicdata center, and IBM Tivoli Monitoring Software, which helpsoptimize IT infrastructure performance and availability.

Service Management Extensions for Hybrid Cloud run on theWebSphere Cast Iron platform. Available in physical or virtualform factors, WebSphere Cast Iron enables companies to seam-lessly integrate on-premise and public clouds. Enhancements tothis platform include a complete multitenant cloud service thatclients can use to design, run and manage all cloud integrations,as well as a new virtual appliance that can be installed on exist-ing servers.
