Hard Drive Replacement

Now that the drive is out you can prepare the new drive for installation.

Check the new drive for any plastic jumper blocks that might cover the gold pins at the right side of the drive (looking at the pins from the label side of the drive). Remove any jumper block that might be found.

Add the four screws and the drive rails. The rails will be loose this is normal.

Plug the drive into the ribbon cable. Double check the orientation of the pins to the pin holes in the connector.

The computer is put back together in reverse of disassembly.

When replacing the bottom case please note that there are two cables that are near the display hinges. Pay close attention that these are tucked in and won't be pinched when the case is snapped back together.

Once you have the iBook together power it up. You should get a folder with a question mark on it. At this point you can reboot to your operating system disk, format the drive and reinstall your software. You can also take the old drive and install it into a Firewire case , boot from it and clone the contents to your new drive.
