DESCRIPTION

The message of Qur’an is universal due to its diction. Without going to undue delicacies of the incidences, narration of the past religious cum social events, is deliberated on the lessons imparted from experiences of earlier human societies and conglomerates. The beauty of the teachings in Qur’an is that it shuns the passionate propensities and inspires its subjects to have a strong recourse on logical understanding. In chapter 37 (Al-Saffat) verses 101-111, there is a narration of the sacrifice of the Ibrahim. This discourse starts by a prayer from Ibrahim for a righteous son which Qur’an says, granted in a person (Ismail/son) who was fore bearing by creator’s grace. Without going into further details, it delineates that while attainment of his (Ismail) puberty, there was a sharing of a dream by father i.e. Ibrahim to sacrifice him (Ismail). To this son submits and both committed themselves for sacrifice but ransomed as a great sacrifice for generations to come. This act of Ibrahim is attributed in Qur’an as an obvious trial. There was no mention of replacement of a lamb in place of the sacrifice of a son in Qur’an, one should note.
