ICAN Hunger Relief Campaign

Objectives

A plan to reduce hunger in king country To help the homeless people and poors to fight against hunger To promote ICAN college in the public eye Raise awareness among peers on poverty and the displaced

Outcome & Activity Flow

5.00pmFoods are being prepared and packed as a set of meal for the homeless people

in Kota Rakyat, Kuala Lumpur by a group of participants while waiting for the

transport to arrive. Each pack of food includes a 500ml of drinking water, a

packet of rice with a few dishes on it, 2 packets of biscuits and a 180ml of

Milo drink. Besides that, we also provide dinnerware.

6.00pmA briefing on the activity is done by Lim Jia Sheng (Activity Leader) and

Liew Kah Joon (Activity Assistant) to all the participants including the

volunteers for the night in Lecture Room 2 together with Ms Rathna and Mr

Syaufiq in Lecture Room 2. The meeting was called up to brief all the

participants about the tentative and programs of the night.

The briefing is about Students are divided into 3 groups accordingly and are in-

charged by 3 students which are Lim Jia Sheng, Yeoh Chern

Zhen and Tee Jun Yi. This is to ensure the safety of all thestudents during the activity running.

Students are also discouraged to bring their personal belongingsduring the activity to avoid unnecessary consequences.

Participants are asked to wear the ICAN T-Shirt as the uniformduring the activity for identification and safety issues.

Participants are advice to save all the contact numbers of theirgroup leader respectively and the Activity Leader as well for

emergency use. Hence, the phone number of Ms Rathna and Mr

Syaufiq are jot down for safety requirements.

Before departing, Activity LeaderLim Jia Sheng again briefsthe participants about the tentative as well for the transportation.

We are assigned into 2 groups one is for the committees and

the other is for the volunteers. The volunteers group is being

transported by Lim Yee Han whereas for the committees, we

are transported by En Hussain with the colleges van to the

destination.

Before the meeting session ends, Activity Leader Lim JiaSheng reminds everybody that safety is key for the night during

the activity running.

7.30pmAll the foods which are ready packed are brought down and rearrange at the

lobby with the teamwork of all the participants.

7.45pmAttendance of participants was taken for safety while waiting for the

transportation to arrive.

8.00pmWhile waiting for the transportation to arrive, it was drizzling at that moment,

so Activity LeaderLim Jia Sheng gathered everybody in front of the lobby

to briefs again about the alternative plans to avoid getting caught from the rain.

9.00pmWhen the transportation arrived, all the foods are placed into the boot of one

of the vehicle (Toyota Avanza) with the help of few committees. Then

everybody was assigned to sit in own groups. When departing, En Hussains

van was ahead and followed by few other cars with some other lecturers and

also staff who came and gave their helping hand for the activity.

10.00pmAll the participants, lecturers and staff arrived safely in Kota Rakyat, Kuala

Lumpur.

Everybody arrived safely at the destinations and decide to give a pose before starting

the event.

10.15pmAfter settling everything and everybody at the destination, Activity Leader

Lim Jia Sheng, gathered everybody again to brief thoroughly about the activity

flow. While the activity run, there was another group of government people

arrived at the destination, they were also having the same activity as us

distributing foods to the homeless people. So, he decided to make a little

change and started discussing with Ms Rathna about the venue arrangements.

Hence, the events continue but only the venue was changed to a further place.However, Activity LeaderLim Jia Sheng is not really familiar with the place

there, so he accepted the suggestion from one of the VolunteerMohd Akmal

Bin Mat Shah to lead everybody to the destination.

So, the journey began with the guidance of Mohd Akmal leading us to the

destination, everybody was asked to line in 2 rows when continuing the

journey to the destination. After that, we stopped at a place to gather and

everybody was assigned to take each 2 packs of food to distribute to the

homeless while walking. Then, the journey began with full of laughter as well

with feeling enthusiasm.

Tentative of Program

Briefing on the task given to the participants before distributing the foods to the

homeless people

Everybody is assigned to take each 2 packet of foods. At first, the foods are

distributed to the homeless people in the area around Kota Rakyat.

Foods are being passed out from the car by our Activity Leader Lim Jia Sheng to

the committees and volunteers.

One the volunteer greet the homeless with full of joy while giving the food to them.

One of the homeless that we gave the food to, he also showed his gratitude and

appreciation to our college for having this activity and the thought of distributing

foods to the homeless.

We were passing by the bridge nearby Masjid Jamek, when we saw one of the

homeless men was sleeping and Activity Assistant Liew Kah Joon left the food

beside him.

There are two homeless peoples lying down on the lobby of a building, two of the

participant climb up the staircase and gave the food to them. Both of the homeless

man was thankful and they greet us with I Love You as appreciation.

12.00amMr Ganesh The Head of Board Governor came to give his support for our

activity. We really appreciated that thought of Mr Ganesh. Before closing the

activity, Madam Chia and Ms Rathna, which was the advisor for the night

gathered all the committees and volunteers to give their feedback and

comments about the activity of the night.

Ms Rathna commented that the time management and venuearrangements were not planned properly during the activity. However,

due to the insufficient time and it was our first time having an outdoor

activity for ICAN College, so this incident was forgiven by Ms Rathna.

Besides that, she even encourages us to do our best for the upcoming

events.

Madam Chia gave her comments regarding, students feeling scared tocommunicate with strangershomeless people, she encourage all the

participants of trying to overcome and practice more to socialize with

other in order to overcome this fear. Besides that, it is also the first step

to achieve in future.

To end the activity as a successful night, Activity Leader Lim Jia Shengbrief about the transportation to all participants to head back the hostel

accordingly. While waiting for the transportation, all the participants took a

photo happily with the working committee and the advisors for the day.

Everybody end with a happy and grateful expression after the activity.

success of the night.
