‘Organized Panic’ Strategies

A Barrage, Galore, Downpour, Convulsion of…… Questions!

• How do we convert our face to face classes to distance education modality? ICAPS support classes?

• What classes can we deliver online (synchronous and asynchronous)? What classes (lecture, lab, & clinical) can not be delivered online?

• What are the CTE programs planning to do?

• What are the best practices in CTE and adult education distance education?

• What level of technology skills do our faculty have? What do they need?

• What about our students? Do they have the resources and skills?

• How do we manage retention and student success? Wella! We have resources!

• CLC Teaching, Learning & Educational Center

• CLC Library and Academic Success

• ICCB AE and CTE Administration

• ALRC, SIPDC, ICPC

• Pro-Literacy

Most importantly…..we have “US”

• Dean and Department Chairs

• Faculty support groups

• Student Success Team

• AE instructors helped students get started.

• Used Zoom live classes during ICAPS class schedules for both CTE and AE. Used Breakout, Annotate, White Board, and Poll in Zoom.

• Use Blackboard for asynchronous portion for CTE. Access provided to AE instructors. Some AE instructors able to upload files for support class.

• CTE instructors created videos for upload into BB for content and sometimes hands-on, if possible. CTE instructors gave assignments on BB.

• AE instructors attended CTE zoom classes; a few CTE instructors attended the AE support classes.

• AE instructors also worked 1:1 with each ICAPS student after their zoom AE support classes.

• There were no clinical in spring; labs only to the extent possible thru video and books.

• Grade of Incomplete for CTE ICAPS with labs but have Summer Boost lab classes.

• CTE and AE instructor met before or after class via zoom or phone calls.

• Emails, phone calls, and texting for CTE and AE instructors.

• Students reach out to both instructors.

• CTE and AE instructors reach out to students via email, test, phone, and zoom.

• Zoom worked well; students like conversing and interacting with each other

• Faculty and students learned new technology real fast (Panopto, Remind, Hyperdocs, BB, Canvas)

• Zoom had the teaching tools: White Board; group discussion; chat room, etc.

• CTE and AE instructors attended each other’s class

• Department chair visited the AE support classes.

• Faculty interacted more with students in and out of zoom.

• Resources and tools were made available

• Communication, collaboration & commitment

• Wi-Fi connection is sometimes choppy.

• No labs and clinicals; uncertainty of graduation

• Technical support not readily available in real time

• A few CTE instructors did not provide detailed instructions for assignments on BB

• Need more videos for hands-on lessons

What Worked? What Didn’t?

delivery)• Virtual support services• Limited on-site staffing services• More hardware resources ordered for students • Resources for health certifications
