John W Kennedy BCom CA, EdinburghQualified with Price Waterhouse, admitted to ICAS in 1983, then spent a further 7 years in the tax department, latterly as a Senior Tax Manager.

Since 1990 worked as a general practice partner and audit RI in Cowan & Partners, advising owner-managed businesses and charities in all aspects of tax, accounting and business and financial management.

Active on ICAS committees including current roles: Area Training Committee convenor; member of the Student Education and CPD Regulatory Committees.

Active in voluntary and charitable roles: Treasurer of The Scout Association in Scotland; Chair of Leith Chamber of Commerce; member of The Society of High Constables of Edinburgh.

Married with three children.

‘I have experience in various aspects of ICAS work and, if elected, look forward to using that experience to contribute to Council. I also have a keen interest in ensuring that smaller practices are well represented.’

Hamish A N McKenzie, EdinburghI intend, if elected, to represent (the ever increasing number of) retired members. We have the experience – and the wisdom. I should also be putting to the fore ethics (see my letter in the November issue of The CA) and the interests of smaller businesses.

My own history is, after a degree in English, and after some experience in a large CA firm, of forming my own firm of professional Chartered Accountants, still going strong. Since retirement, I have been on the Council of the National Trust, am on the Business Committee of the General Council of Edinburgh University, and sit on the Lothian Valuation Appeal Panel.

My other interests include languages, golf, the state of the economy and the other things retirement brings.

Patrick Brown, GlasgowI qualified as a CA in November 2011 completing my training with Robb Ferguson, Glasgow. I am involved in audit, compliance and business development and planning with a number of SME’s, as well as developing a specialism within the charities sector.

I lecture at the Scottish Law Agents Society and the Royal Faculty of Procurators at Glasgow’s joint course “Trainee’s Continuing Professional Development”, prescribed by the Law Society of Scotland as a professional requirement for trainee solicitors.

Outside of work commitments I am a referee with the Scottish Football Association and help a number of charities develop their financial practices.

I look to support the Institute and help it continue to grow and develop, as well as representing the voice of the recently qualified accountants.

George Cobb, KinrossGeorge qualified as a CA in 2010 having trained with PwC in Edinburgh during which time he was involved in the audit of a number of financial institutions. He now holds the position of Sustainability Accountant at SSE, a FTSE 100 company based in Perth having previously worked within their Group Audit department.

Prior to joining PwC George graduated from the University of Dundee having completed a BAcc, an MA and a PhD, with his postgraduate research having been published in international accounting journals.

Outside his work commitments George enjoys spending time with his wife and his two young children. George is an active member of the ICAS Tayside Committee and has recently joined the ICAS Sustainability Committee.

If successful in being elected to Council he looks forward to representing the voice of ‘recently qualified’ accountants and playing a role in helping the Institute develop and grow in the future.

Colin Crosby OBE, AberdeenCA’s in following many different career paths apply the core skills and values acquired in their early years. Increasingly I realise that it is those skills and values that have enabled me to enjoy a hugely diverse career. Within Council promoting ICAS and enabling future CA’s to access similarly varied opportunities would be fantastic.

Qualified CA with TMcL (KPMG) 79 practised law as a partner until 87 then joined the fledging Aberdeen Asset Management which recently joined the FT 100. In 06 the regulated business within AAM where I was CEO was sold to Brewin Dolphin. In 09 I became a consultant.

Since 09 I have successfully built a portfolio of NXD’s in Transport, IT, Tourism, Economic Development and Education.

Always active in the 3rd sector, chaired / chairing a fast growing housing association, a significant school board and being a member of the McFadden committee the precursor to OSCR.

Brian P Davidson, GlasgowI am 57 years old and have recently retired after 22.5 years as a partner with PwC.

In my 32.5 year career at PwC, equalling my years as a qualified CA, I have progressively delivered external audit, due diligence, computer audit, internal audit, and latterly consultancy in Corporate Governance, Risk Management and Compliance. The client sectors I covered were Industrial and Technology and in my consultancy years the Financial Services sector. My last 4.5 years at PwC were spent as Head of Risk & Quality on a leadership team to the UK Consultancy business during its growth from a £50m business to one of £350m.

This wide ranging experience, and more latterly, less traditional CA career, has made me a strong business advisor and permits me to bring a different perspective to the business of ICAS whose members are now more frequently moving away from the traditional CA skill areas.
