provide quick, cost-effective, sustainableconstruction

For builders in all sectors, insulating concrete formwork

delivers excellent construction solutions. The ICF Tech

system combines speed and efficiency of construction with

outstanding thermal and acoustic performance.

UK designed system

ICF Tech has designed and developed the only Insulating

Concrete Form (ICF) system specifically for the UK market.

‘Complete construction’ approach

This is a complete solution for erecting structural walls for

any construction sector, from commercial sheds, apartment

blocks, offices to domestic homes for the eco-conscious or

mass market house builder.

Selling an ICF is one thing; knowing all the construction

pitfalls is another. ICF Tech’s background is the

construction industry. This is why we were able to look at

ICFs from a different perspective when we designed our

system for the UK market.

The ICF system has all the elements needed for a

successful ICF build, not just the Forms, but all the ancillary

items co-designed and manufactured by the Litchfield

Group, in the UK for an integrated solution.

Peace of mind

We train our own installers to provide a risk free structural

walling solution to our clients. Our in-house contract

management, structural engineering and estimating

capability ensures that we can work with you on every

aspect of your build, literally from the ground works up.

How you benefit

Page 5: ICF Tech - Structural Walling Systems

0.19 W/m2K to 0.11 W/m2K

By using the ICF Tech system you automatically exceed Part

L of the Building Regs. with a U value of just 0.19 W/m2K and

air leakage as low as 0.74 m3/m2/h* using our system will help

you achieve code level 6 of the Code for Sustainable Homes.

Airborne sound performance is also considerably improved.

Quick installation

Up to 4m2/man/hour can be achieved with our trained 3 man

teams, so your developments are completed quicker.

Reduced site supervision

Because we provide a full installation service and due to the

simple nature of ICF construction, you will not need as much

site supervision. The need for careful co-ordination between

trades is greatly reduced and in many cases the services of a

bricklayer can be eliminated

Less to go wrong

Timber frame and cavity construction have many detailed

interfaces that often cause problems. The ICF Tech system

has been designed to accommodate lintols, wall ties, damp

proof courses and other components, to provide a simple

and complete construction solution.

SAP ratings

With all our construction interfaces achieving ACD levels and

above you are able to achieve design Y values for detached

and terrace housing as low as 0.03.

No delays - all weather construction

Unlike timber frame or brick/blockwork, our system goes up

whatever the weather. When you consider the UK has over

150 days per year of showers to complete down pours, that

is potentially a lot of lost time - not with our system.

Freedom to design

Free your designs from the

restraints of burgeoning

regulations; design and build

the properties that your clients

want without having to

compromise between light and

thermal performance.

ICF Tech’s qualified team of building

professionals are ready to help with plan

conversions, architectural advice, structural

detailing; indeed all aspects of successfully

building with our system.

Code for Sustainable Homes

Achieving a rating against the Code is now

mandatory for new homes.

Code Level 3 to 6

Our system can be used to achieve levels 3 to 6

of the Code for Sustainable Homes without a

dramatic increase in size or cost for the Structural

Walls. No ‘off-site’ manufacture lead times and

no excessive wall thicknesses, just a modern,

sustainable method of construction.

What makes it possible? Thermal performance is only part of the equation in gaining code level 3 andhigher. Air permeability (the amount of warm air escaping a property) is as important as a structure’s thermal

performance. The ICF Tech system achieves as low as 0.74m3/m2/hr @ 50Pa* without the need for additional

measures. All our construction interfaces exceed ACD performance levels, with the main problem interface (lintel)

achieving ECD level perfomance with a Ψ value of just 0.024 W/m2K.

Exceptional performance from a no compromise design

Our system will help you meet code level 6

Sustainability built in

PSI values of just 0.028for ground floors and0.024 for lintels - thebest in the industry.

With U values ranging from 0.19 to 0.11 andwidths (for a complete wall) from 275mm to

350mm.

Structural core sizes

The system has been designed with two main structural

core sizes, 100mm* and 150mm. The 100mm Form

(HouseForm) has a structural width of 250mm and has

been designed for a minimum of three storey

construction, with intermediate concrete floors and

minimal rebar. Our 150mm Form (WallForm) has a

structural width of 350mm and has been designed for

apartment blocks and flats.

Design flexibility

Our ICF has been designed to be metric modular and

can be cut to length at 25mm increments. Our reduced

wall thickness can give greater space inside or a smaller

building footprint; just 250mm wide for our HouseForm;

but with the strength to allow larger unsupported internal

spans than conventional forms of construction.

Any finishes

Our Forms have an embedded plastic web at 300mm

spacings. This web has been designed to hold 64kg/m2

with a comfortable factor of safety. This will allow slip

systems, timber cladding or heavy clay tiles to be fixed

with ease; virtually any look you wish.

For heavier cladding, our Floor ledger can be embedded

into the concrete to form a strong structural anchor.

Recycled materials

The ICF Tech system has been designed from the outset to use as much recycled material in its

construction. All the extrusions are made from recycled PVC; the webs within the Forms are made

from recycled polypropylene and all our waste from site is bagged and returned to our central

depot for processing.

Technical

A complete ICF system

No voids

Some ICFs have had bad press in the past as they

tend to rely on conventional concrete which does

not always consolidate properly. Our system is

designed to take the additional pressures of SCC

mixes. We designed it this way because it ensures

that the concrete gets where it is supposed to, with

no voids. Our BBA process required that all

susceptible areas where checked for proper filling

and compaction.

Basement construction

We use tried and tested waterproofing systems to

ensure a watertight construction. We also use

advanced concrete additives such as BASF’s

Watertight system where required This advanced

concrete additive can only be used with SCC

mixes, just as well our system can handle the

pressure. We construct to meet type A and type B

basement requirements.

Quality control

Concrete is at the heart of our system so we ensure

that each delivery is checked for the correct slump.

We have developed a close working relationship

with several of the major concrete providers and

continue to work with them to produce new mix

designs to maximise the wall’s performance. Our

work with Bardon Concrete, using BASF

admixtures, has resulted in the first commercially

available ICF concrete mix.

Trained installers

We train and use our own installers to ensure that every build is

completed professionally. Although building with ICFs has been

compared to building with lego, it is not quite that simple; almost,

but not quite.

Checklists are used pre and post concrete pours to ensure that

the ICF wall is properly filled, plumb and that any other specific

requirements are met (services etc.)

Bracing & alignment system (B&A)

Provides a safe working platform as the

ICF Wall is erected and also keeps the

wall plumb during the concrete pumping.

A simple turnbuckle allows the system to

push or pull the wall until it is perfectly

straight and true.

Ours is the only B&A that has been

designed to meet the requirements of;

BS EN 13374:2004

BS EN 1991-1-4:2005

BS EN 12811-1:2003

FormCloser

Designed to seal the core around window

and door openings prior to the concrete

being pumped in. It’s a recycled PVC

extrusion with insulation injected into the

core to prevent cold bridging. Special

grooves have been included to allow

rapid ‘clip’ fixing and the provision of

window stop and raiser pieces. Unlike

other systems, we don’t need to cut our

opening 100mm larger than the window

or door to achieve excellent psi values.

Easy and secure fixing.

Floor ledger

To speed-up the erection of timber floors,

ICF Tech uses a tried and tested steel

floor ledger system from Simpson

Strongtie that is embedded into the EPS

blocks as the wall is erected. The

concrete is then pumped into the ICF core

and secures the Floor Ledger in place

resulting in a strong structural anchor.

FormLok & FloorForm

Setting-out the first row of ICF forms is

simplified by the use of ICF Tech’s

FormLok. The FormLok is secured to the

foundation and then the first row of ICF

forms are installed, the forms are screwed

to the FormLok, keeping them firmly fixed

to the foundation to prevent them from

lifting during the concrete pour.

Our FloorForm is unique in the industry

and allows any concrete floor (ground or

intermediate) to be installed without

messy and inaccurate cutting of the

Forms.

Raising pieces

Our single interlock raising piece (SIRP) is

designed to provide additional storey

height increases in 75mm increments

whilst our Double Interlock Raising Pieces

(DIRP) ensures interlock integrity,

regardless of finished floor height, when

using concrete flooring systems.

Rebar cradle

Another example of innovation with our

ICF design. Simply insert into the top and

sides of the FormCloser and rotate

through 90 degrees and you have a rebar

cradle ready to accept rebar to form the

lintol above openings and the required

rebar detail around

the opening.
