During a recent cosy chat with members Aino Jawo and Caroline Hjelt, we half- expected them to be as vivacious as their discography but came away just as smitten by their down-to-earth and genuine personas. Yet they reminded us they are not always happy party animals, and for that reason, we adore the ingenious disguise of depth in Icona Pop’s upbeat melodies. “They’re bittersweet stuff you can dance to in the clubs, but when you listen to them at home, you can relate to the lyrics,” Caroline noted. Within head-bangers such as I Love It and Girlfriend are personal life stories that are indiscriminately relatable and refreshingly honest. “They come from something harsh to become something beautiful.
