FremantleMedia France was launched in 1988, the same year as its award-winning production Questions pour un Champion (Going For Gold) that is still on air today. Since its creation, FremantleMedia France has produced iconic game shows including Le juste prix (The Price Is Right), Une famille en or (Family Feud), La Nouvelle Star (Idols), as well as reality hits including C’est du propre (How Clean Is Your House?) and Projet Fashion (Project Runway) and many more.

Highlights include two of FremantleMedia’s international hit shows: Got Talent and The Farmer Wants A Wife. Currently on RTL Group’s channel M6, La France a un incroyable talent (Got Talent) kicked off its tenth season on 20 October 2015 with a brand new jury and a revamped structure. The latest season of L’amour est dans le pré (The Farmer Wants A Wife) has been one of the most popular shows in France for this year, attracting an average of 32 per cent of the target group and is set to return for an eleventh season next year. In the meantime, fans of the show can look forward to a special follow-up tenth season programme, L’Amour est dans le pré: seconde chance, which brings back contestants from previous seasons who were unsuccessful in finding love the first time around. It starts on M6 in November 2015.

In addition to its successful shows in the French market, FremantleMedia France has seen one of its own ideas, Séduis-moi si tu peux (Take Me Out), been made in 32 countries through FremantleMedia’s global network of production companies. In this dating game show, bachelors present themselves to an audience of single women and must wow them to win a date with a lucky lady. Speaking about the programme being more successful abroad, Monica Galer says: “We were not so successful with it in France, curiously, but it’s been a successful format for FremantleMedia in general.”

Asked what makes a show popular, Galer says there is no guarantee for a ready-made recipe to create only successful formats and says the answer is rather complicated: “It’s a very magical mix consisting of an idea, its production, the channel it’s on, the mood of the country,” before adding that the role of scheduling should definitely not be downplayed.

Monica Galer joined FremantleMedia France in 2002 and was appointed CEO of the French business in 2007. Since then the media industry has changed considerably. She also points out that due to the ongoing transformations the public no longer has a static view of what media is: “I firmly believe that the world has changed. Not only the media, but the social and economic situation of the world that we live in have changed radically in the last few years. I believe that the

changes in the media are a consequence of this – it’s not the source of the change. The social media have also played a role in shaping people’s perception of what the media is.”

…now branching out into fictionIn this context she outlines her strategy which is based around the competitive advantage of diversification: “My strategy is to reach a certain level of diversification. We need to diversify more than before. This is why we are now getting into fiction, which is something I have already wanted to do for some years, but now with a lot of support from Cécile [Cécile Frot-Coutaz, FremantleMedia CEO] and her team we are succeeding in doing this. And we are also diversifying into ‘brand content’, in approaching brands that want to put out their messages with new ideas of how to convey that message.”

In addition to a talented and creative in-house team, the French production company has been investing in local creative talents and recently acquired a majority stake in two companies that both have big fiction portfolios: Fontaram and Kwaï. “I considered that FremantleMedia France needed to produce fiction. There are several ways of achieving this ambition. One is hiring people hoping that they will have the right contacts, bring in the right projects and then these projects are sold to broadcasters, a very long process which can take up to five years before you’re on air. Or acquire a shareholding in a company you respect and admire or think is important for various reasons. And I find that’s a faster way of getting into the production of fiction,” she underlines.

Explaining further the rationale behind the acquisitions, she says: “So we have now two companies; the first is Fontaram, a company recently set up by two talents Pascal Fontanille and FrançoisAramburu who have proved very successful.

François and Pascal are incredibly talented drama producers with a wealth of experience and long standing relationships with all of the major French broadcasters. This is an important deal for FremantleMedia as we establish our scripted presence in France and I look forward to a successful creative partnership with the duo.” Pascal Fontanille and François Aramburu are behind the successful French series Clem which has been entertaining viewers on TF1 since 2010. Other recent successes include On se retrouvera (on TF1) and Délit de Fuite (on France 2).

The second scripted company in which FremantleMedia France has invested is Kwaï. The company is specialised in TV films and scripted series and is best known for the cult crime drama series Femmes de loi, which ran from 2000 to 2009, also on TF1. Kwaï’s Founder Thomas Bourguignon has already many riveting new projects in the pipeline. “Right now he’s producing Republican Gangsters for Canal Plus and has a series under the title Godzilla set up for Arte. Thomas Bourguignon is a brilliant writer and producer and we look forward to creating some really exciting scripted projects with him, in France and beyond,” concludes Galer.

Q: Recently, you have read… A: I read a series of four novels written by an Italian writer, Elena Ferrante, the first one is called My Brilliant Friend. I thought it was magnificent. It’s extremely well written. It could be a fantastic screenplay.

Q: Recently, you were moved by… A: I was very moved, for example, by the Andy Warhol exhibit that is currently on show in Paris at the Musée d’Art Moderne.

Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland has launched Jubadoo – a new video platform featuring many useful video tutorials. Germany – 27 October 2015

Produced by RTL Interactive, Jubadoo offers video tutorials on topics ranging from interior design, DIY, food and drink, to fashion and beauty, as well as technology.

Matthias Büchs, Managing Director and Head of Online and Mobile at RTL Interactive: “Offering appealing and relevant videos on all platforms is at the very heart of Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland’s digital strategy. Online tutorials are extremely popular. We are using Jubadoo to test a new offer because we want to professionalise this area.”

Jubadoo contents are adaptive, enabling their appearance to adjust to each individual device. To begin with, 50 videos will be available. It will then be gradually expanded each month.

Simon Cowell will be a judge on the upcoming 11th season of America’s Got Talent, a production of FremantleMedia North America and Syco Entertainment. Auditions for the upcoming next season, to be aired in 2016, are currently underway. North America – 23 October 2015

Simon Cowell created the Got Talent format that firstly launched with America’s Got Talent (AGT) in 2006. RTL II has presented its highlights for the 2015/16 season, and viewers can look forward to a variety of programmes. Numerous premieres are in the pipeline alongside familiar, established shows. Germany – 26 October 2015

In the in-house productions, the RTL II schedule features two new series. Along with the four-part crime series Neanderthaler, the line-up also includes Gottlos – Warum Menschen töten. The three-part drama series, written by Grimme Prize winner Thomas Stiller, is inspired by real-life events and focuses on aspects that are usually not addressed in ordinary crime series, such as the emergence, development and ultimately also the escalation of conflicts, where it sometimes remains far from clear who is the perpetrator and who is the victim.

Fans of top class US series will not be disappointed: RTL II presents the 16 new episodes of the fifth season of The Walking Dead as a German Free-TV premiere. Moreover, the Munich-based station has secured another zombie series with Z Nation. RTL II will also be showing the fifth season of the award-winning fantasy series Game of Thrones again as a German Free-TV premiere. In addition, the coming RTL II TV season features the second series of The Quest and the fifth series of Falling Skies.

With Achtung, die Dietrichs kommen! – Das Leben der etwas anderen Millionärsfamilie, RTL II is showing an innovative comedy format that focuses on a millionaire family, which is an amusing mix of docusoap and comedy, coupled with improvisation elements. German cult character Dennis will also be presenting a mix of late night show and comedy entitled Der Dennis Show – von und mit Martin Klempnow.

In the docusoaps area, Richard Lugner and his wife Cathy are getting their own documentary soap Lugner und Cathy – Der Millionär und das Bunny. Trau Dich! 4 Anträge und ein Traumkleid is all about proposing: every week, a total of four people who want to marry their partners face the ‘proposal’ challenge. The game consists of four competing candidates, with the other competitors rating each other’s proposals. Only one entrant can win in the end, and also surprise the love of their life with a wedding dress.

No RTL II schedule would be complete without the Geiss and Reimann families. There will be new seasons of both Die Geissens – Eine schrecklich glamouröse Familie! and Die Reimanns – Ein außergewöhnliches Leben. The second series of Die Diät-Tester will also be aired, and with Meine Eltern, ihre Kilos und ich RTL II is launching a new diet project that focuses on parents. Both formats will be presented by sports science expert Felix Klemme.

The audience can also look forward to numerous new episodes of established formats such as Traumfrau gesucht and Der Trödeltrupp – Das Geld liegt im Keller.

There is also plenty of music in the new season. RTL II will be showing the Free-TV premiere of the BBC’s major Backstreet Boys documentary Show’Em What You’re Made Of. In this unique documentary, the band members tell their true story for the first time, reviewing the time they spent together from their own perspective. In the new format Kay One – Sängerin gesucht!, the successful rapper, Kay One, is searching for talented young female vocalists. Who will win the star over with their singing talent?

Magazines and documentaries that are also planned include a new season of Vice Reports and, in the RTL II magazine Klub, presenter Julia Krüger will be keeping viewers up to date with people and entertainment news (Backstage reported). There will also be a second season of the RTL II clip show LIKE! Die größten Internetstorys first shown in spring.

SpotX has announced the partnership with the independent ad analytics company Moat to measure viewability and performance metric across inventory sold through its platform. North America – 28 October 2015

The partnership adds additional insights to help SpotX platform customers optimise their inventory, target their campaigns, and meet the viewability demands of buyers, which are rapidly increasing, according to Vice President of Demand at SpotX, Kelly McMahon.

“As quarter three of 2015 got underway, we noticed an immediate shift in buying behavior, with many brands and agencies tightening the screws on viewability requirements,” says McMahon. “Our partnership with Moat will allow publishers to optimise inventory to meet evolving buyer expectations, and help the market improve inventory performance.”

SpotX deploys Moat’s analytics, along with data from other vendors, as part of its infrastructure and analytics service to give customers insights to verify campaign delivery, brand safety and viewability.

The judges for the new season of Australia`s Got Talent, produced by FremantleMedia Australia, have been announced. Australia – 29 October 2015

Kelly Osbourne, Ian ‘Dicko’ Dickson, Eddie Perfect and Sophie Monk will be the judges for the new season of Australia’s Got Talent in 2016. They will be joined by Dave Hughes, one of Australia’s favourite comedians, who will host the talent show.

International host, fashion designer and singer, Kelly Osbourne will bring her years of showbiz experience, sharp wit and strong opinions to Australia. She is well known for her biting, honest and compassionate commentary.

Dicko, as he is affectionately known, is no stranger to judging Aussie acts. Loud, proud and bold, but utterly charming, he has years of experience in both music and television. Over five seasons on Australian Idol he cemented himself as the country’s premier talent search judge and proved he isn’t afraid to give completely honest feedback.

Multi-talented performer Eddie Perfect has made his name as an actor, singer, composer and comedian, and will bring his eye for talent to the judging panel. Eddie, with his experience in so many fields of entertainment, is well placed to help unearth Australia’s next star performer.

Sophie Monk is one of Australia’s most popular personalities. Herself a graduate from a TV talent search, she competed in the inaugural season of

Popstars which saw her win a place in the popular girl group, Bardot. Since then her sassy and uncensored approach, and a natural ability to entertain, has seen her build an impressive media career across radio, television, film and music.

On 29 October 2015, multi-channel network StyleHaul launches its first-ever Halloween-inspired Snapchat series The Stylish Dead, combining the worlds of zombies and fashion.

Marrying two seemingly disparate things into something terribly beautiful, StyleHaul is looking to change the stylish conceptions about the zombies. Exclusively available on Snapchat, The Stylish Dead narrates what would happen to the world of fashion during a zombie apocalypse.

StyleHaul YouTubers are called to take Snaps of their zombie-fashion disguises, which will be curated across the creators’ and StyleHaul’s Snapchat accounts.
