Newslet ter Week 2 Term 4 2016
Message from the Chairman 28 October 2016
Dear Parent / Caregiver
Assalamualiakum
With the final term of the school year well underway, I want to report to you on progress with Federal Government compli-
ance and our continued public funding, the College Board and the appointment of a new principal and the completion of my
term as College Board Chairman.
Federal Government
We continue to enjoy a constructive relationship with the Federal Government and its Department of Education.
We have received our scheduled quarterly funding payment due for the next three months and we continue to be vigilant
regarding costs within the College.
You will recall that last month the Federal Government asked us to assure it on compliance and other progress necessary for
continued public funding. I am pleased to advise you that our full and detailed report will be lodged with the Federal Govern-
ment this week.
College Board
We have received many nominations for positions on the College Board. Interviews will be held shortly. It is expected that
the full Board will be in place in November.
Once the full Board is in place, there will be a meeting of the Board with the College community. Again, this will be in mid
November.
Appointment of new Principal
As you may know, Dr Lynda MacLeod will complete her term as Principal at the end of the year. Lynda has done a superb
job in the most demanding circumstances.
The process to appoint a new Principal is well underway. We have short-listed an excellent field of candidates and final inter-
views will be conducted once the full Board is in place. It is for the full Board to make this pivotal appointment.
Lynda will remain in place until the new Principal is appointed.
Chairman stepping down
As many of you will know, I step down as Chairman on 11 November.
It has been an enormous honour to serve this wonderful school community. It has been a demanding, exacting and very

achieved. We have transformed the College, fixed faults and put in place the good gov-
ernance required of a modern and caring school. I thank all of you who have supported
me personally and served our College collectively.
I particularly thank Lynda, her leadership team, our teaching staff and support staff. I
will always watch with close interest and fondness the growth of our great school.

Science—Year 8 Girls
In year 8 this term the girls will be studying about Geology
as a branch of science. They will be exploring different
types of rocks and their features. This study corresponds
to the achievement standards of the Australian Curriculum
wherein the students need to ‘compare processes of rock
formation, including the timescales involved. ’ The stu-
dents have already begun this investigation. In week 1,
they examined samples of different kinds of rocks and not-
ed down their various features. They then looked at the
impact of different factors on crystal formation and creat-
ed their own crystals in the science lab. This week they
have been learning about the impact of weathering on
rocks. For this purpose, they will be replicating the impact
of acid rain and freezing on rocks of different types. This
will also help them understand how the minerals inside
some rocks weather more easily than others.
The students will then move on to the study of exploration
and mining in week 5 and learn about minerals and their
properties. They will also investigate the different kinds of
aerial and on-site methods that are used for exploration.
Students will be required to complete a unit review each
week for homework which will be assessed. They will also
be writing practical reports for some of the experiments
conducted. Students will also be evaluated through tests
after the completion of each chapter. Parents are request-
ed to ensure that homework is completed to a high stand-
ard each week.
Kind Regards,
Mrs. Hussain

Dear Parents/caregivers and students,
Assalamu Alaikum
I would like to congratulate all year 12 students on their grad-uation and all my best wishes to them as they progress from one stage in life to another. While this can be a difficult time for some of them getting ready for their exams, the results that they will achieve are worth all of the hard work that they will put in!
Stage 2 Physics students, the exam is on the 8th of Novem-ber and I’m sure you will do very well as you have always been throughout the year. Feel free to contact me at any time you need help and support in preparation for the exam. Don’t forget to take breaks whenever you need to.
Stage 1 students have also started to feel the heat of the end of the semester. In Physics, we are finishing the semester with electricity and magnetism. It is a very exciting topic and full of hands on skills.
Year 10 boys have started their first step in the journey of un-derstanding the human genetics and DNA. They have ex-tracted DNA from a few different fruits and examined it under the microscope. They are currently working on their practical reports which are due end of week three. Year 9 boys have been exploring the theory of Plate Tectonics and by the end of the term they will be able to explain the reasons behind earthquakes, tsunamis and volcanoes.
Kind regards,

Year 10 Work Experience Work experience was a very exciting time for me because I could finally experience the working environment after being prepared for it for more than eight weeks. It was a very educational five days that I spent at Chemist Warehouse and The Coffee Club. I learned that there is a lot to being a pharmacist and that it's not all just about giving out medications or talking to customers. There are also legal implications. During my work experience at Coffee Club, I realised the importance of customer service and how vital it is to always maintain and display a positive attitude. I’ve also come to know the immense amount of physical stamina that is needed when it comes to jobs in the hospitality sector. All in all, I've been taught a lot during my time on work experience and I intend to use that knowledge and experience in the future as a member of society. Fathima Hiba
Personally, I feel that my time on work experience was time well spent. In a way, I was able to gain a proper picture of a professional working environment and what is expected of me as a member of the working class. As someone who plans to go into the medical field, spending five days doing work experi-ence at National Pharmacies was a great hands on learning experience. I now know what to expect from a career in retail and the responsibilities of a pharmacist. Daniyah Junejo
Another fantastic performance by the Windmill production company. On Wednesday our year
9 and some year 10 English students were lucky enough to watch the performance of Rum-
pelstiltskin.
It was a magical and captivating show that had the students in stitches and thunderous ap-
plause. For some of our students this was their first major theatre production.
Paul Capsis AKA Rumpelstiltskin was so in awe of our students that he even commented on
the amazing theatre vibes they were sending out from the audience.
Our students were very well behaved and displayed excellent theatre etiquette. We are all looking forward to the 2017 season of theatre productions.
