Greetings IDEA Members! This e-bulletin contains important news and
updates about our work at the International Drama/
Theatre Education Association, as well as events

colleagues throughout the world.
NEWS AND UPDATES
Since the GCM in Columbia South Carolina (thanks
again to Peter Duffy for hosting) there has been
much continuing IDEA activity.
Two significant points to note: we have farewelled
our IDEA Secretary Kim Snider and our IDEA
Administrator Anne Winterton.
We thank Kim for her significant contribution to the
IDEA Executive over the past three years since Paris
and especially for activating the IDEA Facebook
page. We wish her well in her new ventures.
We also thank and acknowledge the huge input
into the work of IDEA made by Anne. Her
professionalism and attention to detail has been
highly valued.
This newsletter is an opportunity to introduce Susan Battye as IDEA Secretary and Peter Wallace as IDEA Administrator

Thank you to Susan and Peter for stepping into these roles.
IDEA World Congress 2016 Postponement and update
At the GMC in Columbia a decision was made.
With the unsettled security situation in Ankara and
Turkey and the short time available to successfully
run the IDEA World Congress, IDEA in conjunction
with Çağdaş Drama Derneği (CDA), previously
announced that IDEA 2016 which was to be held in
Ankara, July 11-17, 2016, will be postponed until
July 2017.
This was to prove a wise decision because as we know the attempted coup happened when we were due to be in Turkey. In fact some people from Drama Australia who went ahead with the organised tour were caught up in events in Istanbul. Our thoughts are with all the members of Çağdaş Drama Derneği (CDA) now and hope that they are well in the circumstances. However, the continuing uncertainty in Turkey has prompted IDEA office holders to pursue new lines of enquiry aimed at finding solutions and moving forward. Perhaps there might be an alternative venue for the 9th World Congress. Or perhaps it might not be possible to hold a congress and we consider alternatives. Members of the executive are working to resolve the situation as quickly as possible with a view to reporting to the membership at large in the near future. There are ongoing discussions with CDA. We are very mindful of our Turkish colleagues at this time.

GET INVOLVED IN THE IDEA PUBLICATIONS PROJECT
Director of Publications - Richard Sallis [email protected]
Since its inception, IDEA has been producing
publications both as an output of its congresses
and also as stand-alone publications. However at
the present time there is no single place, especially
online, where they reside. Also, currently there
does not exist an annotated bibliography detailing
the content of the IDEA publications, and more
than that, detailed information of their content.
The 'IDEA Publications Archive project’ hopes to fill
these gaps. It is being conducted by the IDEA
Director of Publications, Richard Sallis from the
Melbourne Graduate School of Education at the
University of Melbourne. Currently Richard is
digitising past IDEA publications and providing
information about them on the IDEA website.
Richard NEEDS YOUR HELP To assist Richard with this project if you have
knowledge of any IDEA publications can you
please send him the details (e.g. the name of the
publication, when it was published, who published
it and when)? He would very much like to hear
from you now! He hopes to have material on the
IDEA website by early 2017.
CALLING ALL DRAMA AND THEATRE IN EDUCATION RESEARCHERS

collaborations, spotlighting and celebrating
excellence in research by IDEA members, and
discussing World Congresses and research. There
are exciting upcoming project proposals that seek
to link research trends and projects to highlight
work from a variety of international contexts. A few

witness’ statements about something they have seen related to the theme.
• Invite them to alternate between uplifting and challenging statements
• Record the statements as News Headlines and chorus a series of Good News, Bad News headlines.
