This year’s Ideas Festi val theme ‘Connect’ aims to encourage new and lasti ng links between our city communiti es: connecti ons between business, local authoriti es, schools, Anglia Ruskin University, Writt le College and voluntary groups. The theme brings together scienti sts and creati ves, people from diff erent cultures, young and old. We hope the festi val will do this by showcasing and encouraging parti cipati on in the wonderful work happening locally. Many of our events provide opportuniti es to learn new skills and contribute to the life of our city.

Highlights include the spectacular Engineering Fair at Anglia Ruskin University, talks from Matt hew Taylor, Chief Executi ve of the Royal Society of Arts; Nick Alston, Police and Crime Commissioner for Essex as well as the latest news from e2v regarding the New Horizon’s mission. There are also inspirati onal delights from Chelmsford historians, musicians, urbanists, academics, beekeepers and baristas. The Ideas Festi val is a Changing Chelmsford initi ati ve.

Changing Chelmsford is:• A loose network of people enthusiasti c about Chelmsford and its potenti al.• A social innovati on ideas incubator sti mulati ng new ways of looking at the city.• A forum bringing experts and lay-people together to mobilise initi ati ves.

This programme booklet was designed and compiled pro bono by the Anglia Ruskin University Design Collecti ve: Jeff Bray, Becky Lockwood and Daniel Tubi. Leonie Ramondt

Ebarts is a social e-currency available as a mobile/web app. Every user’s account starts on zero and is debited or credited as goods and services are traded. The system is transparent and self-regulati ng. Not underwritt en or pegged to any currency, traders set and agree on prices via a system of transferable IOUs. Its value lies in the mutual trust and trade between individuals. We hope to build the UK social economy.
