Now the pattern of violence is changing

Slide 604/18/23 Campaign for displaced people | Central African Republic

But there are too many enemies

• Bandits kidnap children and adults for ransom, kill people and attack villages

• Lord’s Resistance Army abducted children and looted villages

• Armed poachers destroy people’s livelihoods

• Foreign soldiers loot and burn villages

• Three rebel groups take to extortion and killings

• Government forces violate Human Rights

Slide 704/18/23 Campaign for displaced people | Central African Republic

So people continue to flee the violence

• Losing your parents

• Losing your shelter

• Losing your livelihood

• Losing your dignity

Being displaced in the Central African Republic means…

The household of a 11-year old boy and his little brother on a site for displaced people in Kabo. They were separated from their parents while fleeing a bandit attack on their village.

Losing your parents

Losing your livelihood

Losing your dignity

“We did manage to plant last year but bandits made it difficult to reach our crops so we were not able to harvest much.”

“We've been forgotten. If you, the international community, have made it here that means you actually think we are people.”

Maurice’s village of Waki II, close to Kabo, was attacked by bandits

hundreds of soldiers and rebels received training on Human Rights to help reduce violations;

Aid organizations are helping

In 2008, 220,000 people in need received food;

Slide 1204/18/23 Campaign for displaced people | Central African Republic

Aid organizations are helping

and hundreds of thousands of children were vaccinated.

104,000 displaced people received clothes and basic goods to survive;

Slide 1304/18/23 Campaign for displaced people | Central African Republic

And a campaign is being launched

…is helping displaced communities to stand up for their rights;

…is working with the Central African government, so that they fulfill their

duties towards the displaced;

…is asking donors to support protection and aid programmes for the

displaced;

…is asking media to help raise awareness on their plight.

The campaign for displaced people…
