Before 1st. July 2003, there were three directives for equipment

intended for use in Hazardous Areas:

82/139/EEC (Mines): -

Was valid until 30th. June 2003

(Only Electrical Equipment)

76/117/EEC (Surface Industries: -

Was valid until 30th. June 2003

(Only Electrical Equipment)

New Directive: -

94/9/EC (ATEX) was valid from 1st.March 1996 and became mandatory from 1st. July 2003

(All Equipment, Protection Systems and Components)
