IEDC-ACTIVITY REPORT 2014-2015
1. STARTUP BOOTCAMP LAUNCH
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy inaugurated Kerala’s first startup Bootcamp coiniciding with the World Entrepreneurship Day at TKMCE . Bootcamps so set up aim to create grassroots level network of students to promote entrepreneurship and also familiarize them with the process of incorporating and running a company. Startup village chairman Sanjay VijayKumar officially launched the programme. Startup bootcamps will help students to give shape to their dreams and industry exposure. This initiative by IEDC,TKMCE emphasizes on the need of encouragement for the students to become innovators and job creators and supports the young entrepreneurs.
2. Interactive Session With Dr. B Premlet
Activities of IEDC for the Academic year 2015 flagged off by an Interactive session with Dr. B. Premlet Renowned Author & Scientist. He primarily discussed and shared his own experience of being an entrepreneur, the challenges he faced and initial failures. He motivated students in every way. Student’s response on innovative ideas they have, their insecurities and doubts were cleared effectively. Finally the session concluded with a brief talk by Prof. Sudheer A (IEDC Staff Coordinator) on his experience. All in all the session was effective, interesting and inspired the budding innovative minds to join the move.
3. ‘Boot Load’-Know Your Bootcamp Better!
Interactive session with Mr. Aditya Nair of startup village to talk about entrepreneurship scenario in Kerala. The session mainly concentrated on the opportunities awaiting prospectus entrepreneurs in TKMCE. According to Mr. Aditya every student is an entrepreneur himself. The way someone prepares himself for an exam teaches him a lot about foreseeing difficulties. So being an entrepreneur is a big thing but someone needs a nerve of steel to face the challenges. In his talk he shared his experience and story about the startups he introduced in startup village, their success stories, their struggle and how they earned the impossible. As he said there is just more than that meets the eye. When it comes to entrepreneurship one cannot preassume the extent to which the startup will elevate to. “Success stories aren’t the one you are going to learn anything from, it is the one that didn’t make it out that matter.” As he mentioned it’s the stories of the fallen that gives you an idea about how to plan, run and manage your startup. Sole aim of the session was to familiarise about the basic setup of a Bootcamp, how IEDC
works in the college and the various allowances the govt. offers for the student entrepreneurs. The feedback from the audience proves the session achieved what it intended to do.
4. Microsoft Azure Camp
A one day technical camp organized by IEDC TKMCE in association with Microsoft was conducted on 11-07-2015. The sessions were handled by Mr. Mohammed Ramees and Mr. Mohammed Jaseel. Around 250 student participants attended the camp. The camp provided a good start for developing apps on windows platform. The camp coordinators helped the participants to create a Microsoft Azure account and taught to upload an app via azure. The session also touched the advantage of using cloud programming and ended with details about Microsoft virtual academy.
5. FAB LAB Design Contest
IEDC TKMCE conducted inhouse contest to design the interior of proposed FAB Lab on 23rd July. Two selected designs are awarded a total cash prize of 5000 rupees. These designed are adopted for the proposed fablab. The selection panel comprised of Prof. Sudheer ( Dept. of Mechanical Engg:), Prof. Rajesh (Dept. of Mechanical Engg:), Prof. Ghadhi Madusudan ( Dept. of Architecture).This was a major step by IEDC in recognition with its objective to encourage students for inhouse developmental works.The proposed fablab is basically a technical prototyping platform for innovation and invention providing stimulus for local entrepreneurship. 6. Interactive Session with Prof. Dr Sadique A
Innovation & Research Cell organizes a meetup with Prof. Dr Sadique A from the Dept. of
Mechanical engineer a well known Researcher and Academician on 11/10/15. The event was a
launchpad for the students to get exposed to Research Methodologies, Technical Presentation &
Patent Filing procedures. Marketing is as important as innovation hence innovation and
entrepreneurship go hand in hand. The students were acknowledged with various challenges and
avenues available for starting new business ventures . Awareness on the basic approach one
undertakes ,its justification and appropriate exposition and securing one’s innovation aseated.Total
f 32students attended the meet.
7. Idea Pitching Contest For Freshers Coming up with good ideas is hard enough but convincing others to do something with them is
evevn harder. The fields may differ, the basic skill of pitching ideas is largely the same. Keeping this
in mind IEDC TKMCE organised Idea Pitching for the freshers on 03/10/15. The event was intended
to inculcate research aptitude among students and expose them to technical presentation. Coming
up with ideas that demand a change is what students were encouraged to do. The panelist
comprised of of final year and Third Year students. Best four projects were selected and
appreciated.
8. Basic Workshop For Makers
Maker Community of IEDC organized an half day mini maker workshop session for the freshers on
04/10/15. The Session was intended to create a maker ecosystem in the campus. The session was
handled by student makers from the campus. The participants are introduced to basic electronics
and rapid prototyping tools. Keeping in mind the idea of makerspace which is basically an area
where people gather and create. With appropriate resources in hand students get an atmosphere to
shape their innovative ideas and take it to the next level. They get to learn by designing and creating
objects of personal interest or import.
9. Participation in ‘YES CAN 2015’
IEDC TKMCE was one among few invited colleges to attend the YES CAN 2015 an Entrepreneurial
Summit organized by Kerala State Industrial development Corporation on 12/09/2015. Ten students
with the guidance of Prof. Mohammed iqbal (Dept. of Mechanical engineering) were participated
the summit . The summit which was aimed at attracting youths to the new world of opportunities
towards starting enterprises and embracing entrepreneurship and creating a platform for the local
startups and young entrepreneurs to exchange their ideas was successful in capturing the young
minds and gaining their valuable contribution in this revolution.
10. District Student Entrepreneurs Meet Kollam
To develop a sustainable entrepreneurial ecosystem, IEDC TKMCE organized the District Student Entrepreneurs Meet 2015 in association with Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation Ltd, Kerala Start Up Mission, Kollam Management Association and Institute of Engineers, Kollam Chapter on 29-09-2015. Eminent personalities and technical expertise lined before the curious delegates from over 20 colleges across Kollam. Looking forward for a collaboration among institutions to develop inter-college relationship on the basis of entrepreneurship, research and innovations, IEDC TKMCE arranged a rare platform for bringing up young enthusiastic students on the screen. Dr. Chitra IAS (Asst Collector Kollam), Jn.
Shahal Hassan Musaliar ( Treasurer T K M Trust) and delegates from KSUM, KSIDC were present
for the meet.
11. Learn to Code 1.0
Open source Community under IEDC organised Learn to code 1.0, 3 hour workshop on the art of
programming at CCF on 14/10/2015. The workshop was led by Mr. Thoufeer Muhammed and Alex
Cherian Paul from 3rd year Computer Science. A Mini competition also done followed by the workshop.
The workshop witnessed tremendous response and participation by the students ,especially, first years.
12. Startup i3 Workshop
A 3 day workshop organized by Kerala Start Up Mission (KSUM) in association with Open Fuel was hosted by IEDC, TKMCE from 15-10-2015. The workshop mentored 60 aspiring entrepreneurs from 12 colleges across the state to develop their entrepreneurial skills. The workshop mainly emphasized on familiarizing the students with real world scenarios they encounter during the different levels of enterprise building and how to transform their dreams and ideas into a successful reality. The workshop also focused on the different tools ranging from ideation, design thinking, product development to enterprise growth and scaling. The winners of the workshop bagged pre incubation at Start Up Mission for 6 months.

13. Overall Champions in ‘THATHVA 2015’
Team undertaken by IEDC won overall championship in ‘TATHVA’ annual technical fest of National
Institute of Technology Calicut.
14. ‘One Day Awareness Session on MSME Incubation Scheme’
A one day awareness programme organized by Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium
Enterprises was hosted by IEDC TKMCE on Jan 9 2016. Almost 50 participants attended the
programme which mainly focused on introducing to students and faculties the Business
Incubator Scheme implemented by MSME in order to promote growth and development of
MSME’s .The programme commenced at 10:30 with a welcome speech by Mr Saif Siddique,
CTO, IEDC, TKMCE followed by a presidential address by Prof A. Sudheer, Coordinator, IEDC,
TKMCE. Smt Anusha C.S. ,Assistant Director (Economic Investigation), MSME , Smt Rekha K ,
Investigator (Chemical), MSME and Mr. Vijith Kumar C.V. ,Administrative Officer, TBI, NIT
Calicut were the guest speakers. The students and faculties were acknowledged with the
various schemes and funding strategies , their implementation and benefits. The talk was
followed by an interactive session. The programme concluded at 12:30. Prof A Sudheer ,
Coordinator, IEDC, TKMCE proposed the vote of thanks.
15. IGNITE- 5 Day Camp
A three day camp was organised by IEDC TKMCE from jan23-jan25 working towards achieving its
aim of creating a sustainable entrepreneurial culture and innovative environment in the campus. 40
students were screened from a total applicants of 138 by a three level selection process.
1. Recreate : An intensive one day workshop ‘Recreate’ was conducted by IEDC TKMCE
under the leadership of Mr. Adhil Farhan, student coordinator, IEDC TKMCE on 23rd
January, 2016. The workshop was inaugurated by Prof. Shajahan, Department of
Mechanical Engineering. Participants were divided into teams on 5-6 members and
were assigned various tasks and engaged in different activities. Students were
mentored by Mr. Parameshwaran EK, Senior vice president, Servion Global
Solutions, who is a specialist in the field of creative thinking and innovation. The
main emphasis of the workshop was to invoke a sense of creativity which is now
emerging as the most important leadership quality. Students were enlightened with
various phases and key modules of ‘Recreate’. The program followed a three step
methodology of feeling, thinking and doing. Overall, the workshop was informative
and successful in achieving the intended aim.
2. One Day Visit to FAB LAB Trivandrum: Students with Prof. Sudheer (Staff Coordinator, IEDC
TKMCE) visited FAB LAB Trivandrum. The visit was intended to introduce the students to
modern means of Digital manufacturing. Mr. Akshay Fellow from Trivandrum FAB LAB
demonstrated various machines and assisted in getting live experience with the same.
3. Interactive Session with Principal: An interactive session with Principal Prof. Dr. S Ayoob
was held at A P J Hall on 24/01/2016. The session witnessed strong interaction between
students and the principal. This was a unique platform for the champion students of the
campus to have face o face chat with the principal.
4. Innovate for TKM: Innovate for TKM was an innovative solution hunt for the problems in
the campus that need to be immediately addressed. Students were divided in to group of 5
and presented their problem statement in canvas. The next stage of event is scheduled from
13/02 to 14/02.
5. Innovate for Differently Abled: The three day camp provided a platform to the students to
make their valuable contribution to the society by bringing up ideas to innovate new
resources for the differently abled. This initiative aims to motivate the students to address
the real world problems around them and being socially incept.
16. ‘E-Summit-2015’ IIT Bombay
For the first time team undertaken by IEDC participated as a contingent representing the college in
the ‘E-Summit’ organised by IIT Bombay, which is considered to be the largest Entrepreneurial
conclave in the nation.
17. WeCan’16: IEDC ,TKMCE conducted a two day women’s meet for female students from different
colleges across Kollam district on March 5th and 6th ,2016 at TKM College o0f Arts and Science.
Almost 100 participants attended the meet. The two day meet was inaugurated by Shri P H Kurian,
Principal Secretary Induatries and IT who in his inaugural speech encouraged the students to take
the path of entrepreneurship. Prominent personalities from various fields attended the ardent
entreprise as guest speakers. The event comprised of session on lateral thinking and positivity
handled by Mr Jaikrishnan Nair, Infosys, a workshop on Business tactics and rules by Mr Bibin
Mathew Joseph, Cofounder Merclain, an interactive session on risky vocations by Ms Athira Murali,
Motor Racer and Foezia Fathima ,cinematographer, a session on NLP by Smt Renuka Nagarajan
Senior Sales Consultant, Emirates ,panel discussion with Mr Arjun Pillai, cofounder Profoundis, Smt
Reena Vivekanand, cofounder SHIPS, Smt Renuka Nagarajan, Senior Sales Consultant, Emirates and
Smt U S Rakhi, Photojournalist as panelists. Later an activity on franchise development was
conducted with Mr Mehar Moosa, Cofounder Amega. The meet yielded great response and was
successful in achieving the intended aim.
PROPOSED EVENTS:
1. Rapid Prototyping Workshop by Arvind Sanjeev
Workshop is intended to provide students hands on experience with Rapid Prototyping tools like
Arduino, Rasberypi & 3D Printing there by creating a maker culture in the campus.
2. Faculty Development Program on Internet of Things
IEDC is planning to build an IoT lab with support from Kerala Startup Mission In association with
this cell is planning to host an FDP on Internet of Things.
3. Change Makers of TKM
A unique platform for the faculties and students to interact with the Alumnus – The real change
makers of TKM who made laurels to themselves and to the institutions with their consistent
effort to bring a change.
4. Techno Entrepreneurial Summit 2016
First of Its kind initiative in the state to bring the brilliant minds across the nation to a single
platform.
