IEEE/Industry Applications Society/Petroleum & Chemical Industry Committee Motors in Hazardous Locations Working Group (IAS/PCIC/1349 WG) IEEE 1349, “Guide for the Application for Electric Motors in Class I, Division 2 and Class I, Zone 2 Hazardous (Classified) Locations” Working Group Meeting September 21, 2013 –Chicago, Illinois New Business IEEE mentor site The new IEEE mentor site was discussed. It will become a part of the WG activity. The mentor site is linked to the myProject site. Therefore members need to sign up under myProject. See attached. Remember to login to see nonpublic information. https://mentor.ieee.org/1349/documents IEEE 1349 Tutorial, Thursday A Tutorial was approved for presentation at the 2013 PCIC, Tutorial E: Motors in Hazardous Locations. Authors and presenters are: Lorraine Padden, Bharat Mistry, Chris Heron, and Tom Stewart. Industry Tests and Data Base Discussion was held on the future direction and timing of updating the Guide. The consensus was to continue to collect event and testing data until the industry has more experience with the current edition. Other proposals to discuss are incorporating more information from the Canadian Electrical Code. Also, consider updates to IEEE 303, IEEE 1566, and IEEE 841. The excel spreadsheet used for data gathering from 2011 should be reviewed and maybe updated. Task group volunteers for review are as follows: Chris Heron, Dale Basso, Rick Paes, and John Rama. The IEEE 1566 Working Group can be solicited for ASD information for motors applied in Hazardous Locations. Art Neubauer volunteered to collect event information for Annex J. An event includes an ignition due to a motor event in a hazardous location. PAR Timing Consensus for a new PAR was to discuss at the 2014 PCIC meeting and maybe apply for a new PAR following that meeting. Next Meeting The next meeting will be from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at the 2014 PCIC in San Francisco, California. The Meeting adjourned at 5:00 p.m. F. In the list of Activity Areas below (initially a list of Societies) clicking on (+) will expand the selection into its constituent components as follows from which you may select the Technical Activity Areas in which you are interested from either a general interest standpoint or specific technical project in which you wish to be involved and presumably ballot.

Society -- What you are Enrolling in --

Sponsor Enrollment as an interested party in general work of committee or indicating an interest in being notified on Ballot Invitations for all projects in a WG or all projects in a Sponsor. Working Group

Project Enrollment as interested party in the detailed technical work of the committee and as a member in the specific Project's Ballot.

Please note that these selections will simply place you on the list of IEEE-SA recognized interested parties for that general or specific technical area. Whether or not you have become a member or voting member of the area depends on the membership criteria of that area. Please contact the respective Chair for further information or to request membership.
