Welcome back to students and families this week for what promises to be an exciting and challenging Term 4 at Ignatius Park College. Term 4 is a time for students to put into practice what they have learnt from earlier in the year and to achieve their best in preparation for final academic reports which are distributed to students on Friday 2nd December 10am – 12pm in the College Hall.There are a few staffing changes to report to you to begin Term 4. We are aware of how important it is for students to have the same teacher for a subject week in week out. I can guarantee you that, as administrators, it is our first priority to maintain this consistency whenever possible. However, with a large teaching staff (now numbering 87) we cannot avoid teacher changes due to maternity leave, serious illness or long-service leave and the like. I can report the following news to you in regards to staffing for Term 4:

Therewereseveralgoodnewsstoriesovertheholidaysaswell.IwouldliketothankTraceyQuabba,BillAhernandStaceyMeyerfortheireffortsintaking25ofouryoungmentoJapanfor12daystoenhancetheirJapaneselanguageandawarenessskills.Allthreeofthestaffreportedpositivelyontheboys’behaviour and conduct in their time overseas, and enjoyed watching the boys as they interacted with the locals!ManythanksalsotoJodieRobertsandFrankClarkefortheirworkwiththeSonyCampontheholidays.SeveralYear11studentsworkedwithstudentsfromSt.Patrick’sCollege,TheStrand.TheSonyCampProgramgivesYear11and12studentstheopportunitytocareforachildwithspecialneedsoverathree-dayperiodinwhatisauniqueandlife-changingexperienceforallinvolved.Thestudents,supportedbyateamofdedicatedteachingandmedicalstaff,areresponsibleforthecareofchildrentwenty-fourhoursadayoverthecourseoftheCamp.Theyquicklylearnaboutthechallengesanddemandsinvolved in caring for a child with special needs. Not only do the students have an enriching experience, but the children are treated to a weekend full of activities and interactions they would not normally have the opportunity to experience. The Camps also provide much needed respite for parents, siblings and primarycarersinwhatmaybetheironlybreakoftheyear.CongratulationstothefollowingYear11studentswhowereinvolvedfromIPC:PatrickCarter,JackCobon,NickDenman,AkhilEbby,DomenicFigg,OliverGibson,LaneMoloney,JacobSeri,DamienSferratore,ViliamiTaufaWilliamThomas,HarrisonTurner,DaleWhalley,BrodieWindle,DarcyYoungandRyanZeller.Thereportsfromteachers,medicalstaffandcarersabouttheconductofourboysweresimply outstanding. ASonyCampisafullyresidentialholidaycampforchildrenwithdisabilities.SixteenyoungmenfromIgnatiusParkjoinedwithsixteenyoungladiesfromStPatrick'sCollegetoprovideabrilliantholiday experience for all the Campers and Companions alike. The Campers were all 9-12 year-old studentsatTownsvilleCommunityLearningCentre,whereBrJonHansenhastakenourstudentsfor over a decade to serve and learn.

CurriculumScience Club - Orpheus Island ExcursionThe school holidays couldn't start early enough for JamesOh,DrewBoniface andKianDalton. During the pupil free day, 16September,thewinnersofthe‘FlyLikeaRock’Challenge,participatedinthethreedaysoffuninthesun.ThisincludedatouroftheJCUresearchfacility,intertidalwalksandlotsofsnorkeling.
The multitude of reef sharks, stingrays, colourful reef fishes and giant clams were a sight to behold. The boys were extremely thankful oftheopportunitytoexperiencetheOrpheusIslandexcursionandverygratefultoJeremyVanderwal,JCUCollegeofScienceandEngineeringCoordinator.

Congratulations to the Ignatius Park CollegeTennisTeam–Michael Forster,LachlanWeis,DominicCusumano,RileyRuppandZacharyGoughwhoplayedintheQueenslandSecondarySchoolTeamTennisCompetitioninRockhamptonlastterm.Afterwinningthroughtheregionalstage of the competition by default, the boys fought hard for spots on the team to playtheState’sbest!Aspecialmentionto William Thomas, Kynan Wregg andLuke Forster who were unlucky not totour this year but will no doubt be fired up to participate in 2017.
Day 1 of competition was tough! Aftersuffering heavy defeats to Palm BeachCurrumbin and eventual champions Brisbane Boys College (NationalChampions from 2015), the boys dusted themselves off to take up the challenge to upstage rival Cairns losing 24-18, and finish the day with respect.
Day2sawustakeontheboysfromthebush,ChinchillaSHS.WehadastrongwintoavoidthewoodenspoonandhavethechancetoplayShalomBundaberg.Withalackofnumbersandtiredbodies,theboysfoughthardandmanagedtostealasetinthesingles.LachlanWeisandMichaelForstertookoutthefirstandonlydoublesmatchtobringthescorecloser.However,thelackofnumberswas our undoing and ultimately led to a loss in that round.

Cricket NewsIPC BOYS PIVOTAL TO QUEENSLAND WINOver the September holidays, two of IPC’s Year 12 students, JoshDeMunari (Carew) and JohnDempsey (Reid), representedQueenslandinthe19YearsInterstateSchoolboyChallenge.KnownastheCarbineCup,thiscompetitionhasbeenrunningforover30yearsandconsistsofa1daymatchanda3daymatch.GoingintotheChallenge,Queenslandheldboththe1dayand3daytrophies after comprehensive victories in 2015.
John Dempsey (40 runs) was instrumental in building a strong foundation in the 1 day game to help the Queensland boys chase downaformidabletotalof226.Queenslandwonby5wickets.
The3daygamedidnotstartwellforQueensland.Theyweredismissedfor80bylunchonthefirstday.NSWcompiledamassive7-356 and set Queensland the difficult task of batting for 139 overs to save the game and retain the trophy. A great feat ofdeterminationsawthealltheQueenslandbatsmencontributetobattingforover8hourstosavethegame.JoshDeMunarihelduponeendforover3hourstocrushthespiritsoftheNSWteam.
