I can guarantee you that, as administrators, it is our first priority to maintain this consistency whenever possible. However, with a large teaching staff (now numbering 87) we cannot avoid teacher changes due to maternity leave, serious illness or long-service leave and the like. I can report the following news to you in regards to staffing for Term 4: We welcome back Grant Rossiter to the College and the Leadership Team (after a battle with illness) in Term 4 to teach a 12 Maths B class and to do some Professional Development work with staff. Allison Elcoate remains on the College Leadership Team in Term 4 and is looking after day to day staff replacements and the 2017 timetable. Adriana Rossi will return to the College progressively and initially teach Year 12 Modern History and support the Year 12 Homeroom with activities leading into Graduation. In the interim, Tim Lindeberg will continue as Acting Faculty Leader Humanities this term. Chris Thiele returns to the College in Term 4 to teach in the History, IT and English areas and shares a Year 10 History class with Allison Elcoate. Dave Roberts, a long-standing Guitar instructor at the College, and a qualified and registered teacher, begins teaching at IPC in Term 4 in place of Angela Byrne in the Music area. There were several good news stories over the holidays as well. I would like to thank Tracey Quabba, Bill Ahern and Stacey Meyer for their efforts in taking 25 of our young men to Japan for 12 days to enhance their Japanese language and awareness skills. All three of the staff reported positively on the boys’ behaviour and conduct in their time overseas, and enjoyed watching the boys as they interacted with the locals! Many thanks also to Jodie Roberts and Frank Clarke for their work with the Sony Camp on the holidays. Several Year 11 students worked with students from St. Patrick’s College, The Strand. The Sony Camp Program gives Year 11 and 12 students the opportunity to care for a child with special needs over a three-day period in what is a unique and life-changing experience for all involved. The students, supported by a team of dedicated teaching and medical staff, are responsible for the care of children twenty-four hours a day over the course of the Camp. They quickly learn about the challenges and demands involved in caring for a child with special needs. Not only do the students have an enriching experience, but the children are treated to a weekend full of activities and interactions they would not normally have the opportunity to experience. The Camps also provide much needed respite for parents, siblings and primary carers in what may be their only break of the year. Congratulations to the following Year 11 students who were involved from IPC: Patrick Carter, Jack Cobon, Nick Denman, Akhil Ebby, Domenic Figg, Oliver Gibson, Lane Moloney, Jacob Seri, Damien Sferratore, Viliami Taufa William Thomas, Harrison Turner, Dale Whalley, Brodie Windle, Darcy Young and Ryan Zeller. The reports from teachers, medical staff and carers about the conduct of our boys were simply outstanding. Well done to all involved. Day 1 of competition was tough! Aftersuffering heavy defeats to Palm BeachCurrumbin and eventual champions Brisbane Boys College (NationalChampions from 2015), the boys dusted themselves off to take up the challenge to upstage rival Cairns losing 24-18, and finish the day with respect.
