ABOUT IIHMR

Institute of Health Management Research (IIHMR), Jaipur

(formerly known as Indian Institute of Health Management

Research), was founded in 1984. In the three decades,

the Institute has created a niche in high quality research,

education and training in Health Management and Hospital

Management. It has made phenomenal contribution in

health systems and services research, especially in policy

and program management and evaluation. The Institute has

attained a pride position in health manage-ment, planning

and research at the national and international levels. The role

of the Institute is being increasingly realized and appreciated

in developing health management as an important discipline

for improving the efficiency, effectiveness and quality of

health care; and setting a research agenda.

It is a WHO Collaborating Centre for District Health

Systems based on primary health care. It is identified as an

Institute of Excellence for training by the Ministry of Health

and Family Welfare, Government of India. Postgraduate

program in Hospital and Health Management is a top ranking

management education program in the country. IIHMR Jaipur

also offers MBA in Pharmaceutical Management and MBA in

Rural Management with an intake capacity of 60 each.

IIHMR Jaipur has also introduced Masters in Public Health in

collaboration with Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore USA,

a first of its kind program in India. The course is conducted

jointly and degree will be awarded by the Johns Hopkins

University, USA. For its outstanding contribution to the

healthcare education sector, the Institute has received ABP

News National B School Leadership award, Amar Ujala B

School excellence awards 2012 ,Indian B School Awards

2013 by Discovery Education Media Private Limited, Best

healthcare management Institute by Outlook B school

survey 2013,Hindustan Times, Mint, CNN IBN Survey. It was

also given a commendation card by the health minister of

Afghanistan for distinguished services rendered there and

conducting courses for 473 doctors,Health administrators

and nurses.

With a mission to make healthcare research, education

and training accessible to all corners of the country, IIHMR

Banglore was established in 2004 and IIHMR Delhi was

established in 2008 with an aim to spear head education

and training of professionals looking to gain a strong edge

in the Hospital and Health Management. The programs are

of two years duration and are AICTE approved. The Delhi

campus has 120 seats for this program and IIHMR Bangalore

has an intake capacity of 60 students.

The management graduates of the Institutes have

contributed to a paradigm shift in managing hospitals and

health care systems in the country and abroad.

IIHMR has established a network and collaboration in the

health sector with 17 institutions/Universities in India and

abroad like Johns Hopkins University, USA, University of

Chester UK, Mahidol University Thailand, SAARC, South East

Asia Public Health Institution Network (SEAPHEIN), Gulf

Medical University, Ajman, B P Koirala Institute of Health

Sciences, Nepal etc.

campus of IIHMR Society and it aspires to become a “State of

the Art Institute in Healthcare Management” by undertaking

teaching, research, training and consultancy in the various

thrust areas of Health and Hospital Management. IIHMR,

Bangalore has become a premier institution in the area of

Health and Hospital Management. In the year 2010 AICTE

granted approval for its flagship program – Post Graduate

THE CAMPUS

The campus is located near Electronic City in Bangalore. It has

good accessibility from all parts of the city. It has a congenial

work environment with basic facilities required to undertake

educational and research projects. It is surrounded by several

Academic Institutions, IT Companies and Residential Complexes.

The main building has an Academic Block, Computer Lab, Library,

Conference Hall, Classrooms, Tutorial Rooms, and Lecture and

Seminar Rooms. The training halls are well-equipped with all

modern amenities. Videoconferencing facility is accessible to

facilitate teaching and meetings related to research projects.

LIBRARY

The Library at IIHMR Bangalore is a Centre for Academic Learning,

Knowledge Acquisition and Development. It has a rich collection

of books, periodicals. The collection also includes CD-ROMs and

Database. The library has a unique collection of publication in

various fields such as General Management , Health Management,

Hospital Administration, Health Economics and Finance,

Bio-Statistics, Leadership, Public Health, Management

Information Systems, Population Sciences. In addition,

collection of Training Materials, Case Studies, Manuals,

Reports and Conference Proceed-ings are also available.

The library has a substantial number of National and

International Journals along with e-Journals on various

topics.

IT LAB

The IT Lab is well equipped with state of the art computing

resources. The lab has adequate infra-structure and

services which are available throughout the year. It is

equipped with latest server, desktops,Laptops, Laser printers,

Video Conferencing facility, and technically competent software

and hardware professionals. Besides providing support to

the ongoing activities of the institute like research, teaching

and consultancy the centre is actively engaged in software

development for managing health programs and hospitals

effectively.

HOSTEL FACILITY

Hostel facilities are available for students. IIHMR-Bangalore

has excellent hostel facilities that provide “A home away

from home.”

PROGRAM DESIGN AND STRUCTURE

PGDHM Program is designed on modular pattern and is

structured in 4 semesters spread over a period of two years. The

first year begins with an Induction and Orientation programme,

compulsory for all students joining the programme. The

orientation is followed by two semesters (First and Second).

At the end of the Second Semester, there is an eight weeks

Summer Internship wherein a student undertakes a live

project in a healthcare institution. In the 2nd Year, the students

specialize in either the Hospital or Health stream. At the end

of the course, a student has to undertake a dissertation in his

desired area of concentration of work (Health Economics, IT,

HR, Finance, Mar-keting etc.), a requirement to be fulfilled for

the award of the degree: Post Graduate Diploma in Health &

DISSERTATION AND INTERNSHIP

Dissertation and Internship is an integral part of our

Postgraduate Diploma in Hospital and Health Management

(PGDHM). As a part of the curriculum, each student of

final year is required to undergo Internship and work on

a Dissertation with a reputed organization for a period of

three months. During Internship, the student will assist the

Administrator/Manager in day-to-day operations and gain

practical insights of working and start getting adept to handle

managerial issues related to administrative functioning of

major departments of the organization where Internship is

being undergone. They are assigned Industry Mentors and

Faculty Mentors and assessed based on feedbacks received

from the Industry Mentors and evaluation on the basis of their

performance during this period along with the Dissertation

submitted towards fulfillment of the Post Graduate Diploma

in Health & Hospital Management (PGDHM).

IIHMR DELHI International Institute of Health Management Research (IIHMR), New Delhi was established on August 18, 2008 under the Indian Institute of Health Management Research Society registered under Societies Registration Act. The first IHMR was established in Jaipur to cater to the growing need for quality healthcare in the country. The Society has established similar Institutes with a focus on national and international healthcare management at New Delhi, Bengaluru and Kolkata. IIHMR has been playing a major role in promoting and conducting research, policy analysis, formulation and strategy development. This has enabled effective implementation of healthcare policies and programmes thereby also enabling the Institute to achieve its goal.

IIHMR, New Delhi offers a two-year full-time All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) accredited Postgraduate Programme with specialisation in Hospital Management, Health Manage-ment and Healthcare IT Management.

THE CAMPUS The aesthetically designed and elegantly built campus of IIHMR is located at Dwarka, New Delhi. The state-of-the-art infrastructure facilities are designed to meet all academic and administrative requirements and are at par with the international standards. The classrooms create an atmosphere conducive to learning and are fully equipped with modern audio-visual facilities for conducting webinars, online lectures etc. The conferencing needs are taken care of by centrally air-conditioned conference halls fitted with the latest technology to facilitate quality industry-academia interface. A well-equipped cafeteria, gym and aesthetically-furnished guest houses are part of the modern campus.

LIBRARY The library has a rich collection of national and international journals and books related to various fields linked to Health, Hospital and Healthcare Information Technology Management. These include but are not limited to Health Management, Management of Healthcare - Information Technology, Hospital Management, Education, Women Empowerment, Leadership, Management Information Systems, Quality Assurance, Health

IT Lab The teaching pedagogy includes classroom lectures, presentations, field visits, projects, online teaching methods and the likes. The Computer Centre is equipped with all contemporary facilities to cater to the needs of the teaching and research activities of the Institute. The use of modern technology provides a competitive edge to the institute in its core areas of education and research. The high quality bandwidth offers speed and uninterrupted internet connectivity from anywhere on the campus through the LAN and Wi-Fi facility.

The Institute employs the latest computing facility and audio-visual aids with technically competent software and hardware professionals to support the infrastructure. The Computer Centre acts as a central nervous system to ensure uninterrupted operations all over the campus. A video conferencing facility installation is under progress to network with peer institutions in India and abroad.

POST GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN HOSPITAL AND HEALTH MANAGE-MENT (PGDHM)

The Institute offers a two-year full-time Postgraduate

Programme with specialisation in Hospital Management

and Health Management with a total annual intake of 120

students.

It is a flagship educational programme which aims to

develop trained professional managers with requisite skills

in planning, implementation, operational management,

diagnosing and problem solving, consultancy and

entrepreneurship. This is with a view to prepare them to

manage hospitals and healthcare institutions globally, both

in the public and the private sectors, thus meeting the rising

demand for quality healthcare management.

The Institute builds achievers through the program. Our

students have won prizes in many in-ter-campus and national

competitions in academic and non-academic activities.

They have presented papers in many conferences and have

even published their papers, won prestigious international

scholarships, featured in the Limca Book of Records and

won a Citizen Journalist Award by Network 18. The Institute

also encourages and supports entrepreneurship. This is

exemplified by one of our students who has started an NGO,

which has been competitively getting funds and winning

laurels for its work.

DISSERTATION AND INTERNSHIP

All students are required to write a thesis in their area of

interest. The thesis will include a critical review of literature

pertaining to the specific area of interest, data collection, and

analysis of the selected problem, besides other components.

The thesis must be completed in the second year.

THE FACULTY

The Institute has a multi-disciplinary team of faculty member

which is primarily involved in teaching PGDHM courses and

also engaged in research, training and consultation activities.

The faculty strives to create an exciting learning environment

that prepares the PGDHM students to tackle complex issues

and develop creative solutions to critical problems. All faculty

in research programmes sponsored by WHO, DFID, ICMR, EC,

Established in 1984 in Jaipur, IIHMR is an institution which

is the first of its kind in India, with attention solely focused

on Health Systems Management. The Institute undertakes

education, training, research and consultancy in Hospital

Management, Health Management, Pharmaceutical

Management and Rural Management.

THE CAMPUS

The Institute campus is spread over an exquisitely landscaped

area of 14 acres with a lush green cover, characterized by

stark and majestic buildings in brick creating monumental

spaces with minimal décor. This serene ambiance inspires

students to strive for excellence. The Institute is well

equipped with a student friendly infrastructure. The

spacious campus located amidst greenery provides for the

right learning atmosphere.

DR. D. A. HENDERSON LIBRARY AND DOCUMENTATION CENTRE

Dr. D.A. Henderson Library and Documentation Centre has

a wide collection of books, journals and other materials.

It is committed to provide user friendly services and easy

access to facilities. The library has books which mainly focus

subjects like on Health Policy, Health Systems Research, Health

Management, Hospital Management, Public Health, Health

Economics, Epidemiology, Populations Sciences, Human

Resource Management, Management Information Systems,

Project Management, Pharmaceutical Management, Rural

Management, Computer Science, etc. It has a collection of

more than 27,000 volumes including textbooks, reference

books, training materials, case studies, manuals, reports

and conference proceedings. In addition, it has audio and

videorecords, over 125 national and international journals,

newsletters, CD-ROM database, from India and abroad. Library

has subscription to ProQuest & J-Gate e-Journals database.

acquisition, cataloguing, circulation and serial control at

the library is totally computerized under Libsys Software

with WebOPAC. Library also houses Udai Pareek HRD

IT CENTRE

The IT Centre is well-equipped with state-of-the-art

computing resources. The Computer labs have adequate

infra-structure and services are available round the clock

throughout the year. It is equipped with latest servers,

desktop computers, laptops, laser printers and has video

conferencing facility and technically competent soft­

ware and hardware professionals. The computer center

has fibre optic based wired and Wi-Fi based wireless

local area network interconnects nodes throughout the

campus. All the faculty members and students have been

provided with latest multi-media laptops/computers with

provision to access LAN, Internet, etc. Besides provid­

ing support to the ongoing activities of the Institute like

research, teaching, training and consultancy, the centre is

actively engaged in software development for managing

health programmes and hospitals effectively. The Insti­

tute has installed SAP-ERP software for better function­

ing of operations.

WI- FI CONNECTION

The entire campus of the Institute is connected with a state­

of-art Wi-Fi network. Every student and faculty member has a

networked personal computer/laptop at his/her disposal. The

high speed servers running on a variety of platforms suit all

kinds of requirements to support the entire network.

HOSTEL FACILITY

The Institute has hostel facility on the campus for students.

The Institute provides spacious, well furnished and air-cooled

hostel facilities with all modern amenities and conveniences for

the students.

LECTURE HALLS

All the lecture halls are equipped with required teaching aids

and techniques, and are spacious, specifically designed to

facilitate participative learning environment. Every lecture hall

has a computer, connected to the Wi-Fi network that allows

faculty to retrieve relevant information from their desktop. This

connectivity helps both students and faculty in their research

and projects.

SPORTS AND RECREATION FACILITIES

A healthy body is an abode for a healthy mind. The Institute

conducts various sports and other recreational activities for

students from time to time. These facilities include a swimming

pool, a gymnasium, a tennis court, a basket ball court, and play

ground. The students celebrate various festivals and get to

participate in many cultural events organised by the institute.

POST GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN HOSPITAL AND HEALTH MANAGE-MENT (PGDHM)

The Institute offers a two-year full-time Postgraduate

Programme with specialisation in Hospital Management

and Health Management with a total intake of 120 students

annually.

It is a flagship educational programme which aims at

developing trained professionals into managers by providing

requisite skills in planning, implementation, operational

management, diagnosing and problem solving, consultancy

and entrepreneurship. This is with a view to prepare them to

manage hospitals and healthcare institutions globally, both

in the public and the private sectors, thus meeting the rising

demand for quality healthcare management.

The Institute (develops/creates) achievers through the

program. Our students have won prizes in many inter­

campus and national competitions in academic and non­

academic activities. They have presented papers in many

conferences and have even published their papers, won

prestigious international scholarships, featured in the Limca

Book of Records and won a Citizen Journalist Award by

Network 18. The Institute also encourages and supports

entrepreneurship. This is exemplified by one of our students

who has started an NGO, which has been competitively

getting funds and winning laurels for its work.

students are placed for eight weeks in various hospitals

MBA PHARMACEUTICAL MANAGEMENT

The Institute offers a two-year full-time MBA in

(Pharmaceutical Management). It is a flagship educational

program aiming at developing trained professionals with

skills in planning and operating management techniques;

diagnosing and solving management problems; and

acquiring consultancy skills, with a view to preparing them

to manage pharmaceutical industries.

As the program has set high standards of management edu­

cation in the pharmaceutical management sector, it has at­

tained the status of a premier program in the country. The

MBA RURAL MANAGEMENT

IIHMR Jaipur has made phenomenal contribution in the field of

both research and education and in the area of management

of health care, achieving a remarkable place in management,

planning and research in health sector at the national and

international levels. The graduates of the Institute have trans

formed health care management paradigms in the country

and constitute a critical mass of hospital administrators and

health managers in India.

A two-year full-time MBA Rural Management was started in

2010. It is considered to be a flagship educational program

in developing trained professional managers with requisite

skills for managing rural development organizations, both in

the public and the private sectors, and to meet the rising

demand for quality of rural and development sector. The

focus of the program is on self learning through participatory

approach.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Admission to the program will be done from among the eligible candidates based on the under mentioned eligibility criteria

and selection process.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR PGDHM

Recognized Bachelor’s Degree of minimum 3 Years duration with at least 50% marks in aggregate in any discipline bache­

lors in science (Botany, Zoology, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Life Sciences etc), Commerce, Nursing, Nutrition and Physical

Educa-tion Experts, Health Management, General Management, Social Sciences, Health IT and Health Sciences (Medical and

Paramedical, Unani and Yoga, Naturopathy, Ayurveda, Homoeopathy, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech

Therapists, Dental Surgeons, MBBS) (Medicine/ Dental/ AYUSH/ Paramedical/ Nursing/ Management/ Engineering /Sci­

ence /Commerce /Social Sciences and Humanities /Law) with valid score of MAT/CAT/CMAT/ATMA/XAT. Candidates with

relevant experience in healthcare sector are encouraged to apply.

Candidates appearing in the final year of the Bachelors Degree in 2014 may also apply. Such candidates, if selected, will be

given provisional admission. They will be required to produce evidence of their graduation within two months of the start of

the session.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR MBA Rural Management

Recognized Bachelor’s Degree of minimum 3 Years duration with at least 50% marks in aggregate in any discipline (Medi­

cine/ AYUSH/ Nursing/ Management/ Science/ Commerce/ Social Sciences and Humanities/ Social Work/ Rural Develop­

ment/Agriculture) with valid score of MAT/CAT/CMAT/ATMA/XAT. Candidates with relevant experience in rural / develop­

ment sector are encouraged to apply.

Candidates appearing at the final year examination of the Bachelor’s Degree or waiting for the results of their final year

degree examinations in 2014 may also apply. Such candidates, if selected, will be given provisional admission. They will be

required to produce evidence of their graduation within two months of the start of the session.

SELECTION PROCEDURE

The eligible candidates will be invited for Group Discussion and Interview. The final selection of the candidate is based on

his/her performance in the qualifying examination with proportional score in MAT/CMAT/CAT/ATMA/ XAT, group discussion

and interview. Candidates are required to bring original documents at the time of the interview. The distribution of marks for

selection will be as follows:

HOSTEL FEE

Separate hostel facility for Boys and Girls is available. Hostel charges is payable on yearly basis as per Institute norms.

FEE REFUND POLICY

In case, a student/candidate withdraws before the starting of the academic session or leaves the course after joining it, the

fee will be refunded as per Institute norms.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

No financial assistance is available from the Institute. Candidates sponsored by their employers are encouraged to apply.

SCHOLARSHIP The Institute offers limited scholarships on merit-cum-need basis.

POLICY TOWARDS RAGGING The Institute strictly follows the AICTE guidelines for anti-ragging mentioned in AICTE Handbook. The Institute observes

“Zero tolerance” policy to ragging and expels students found guilty of maltreating freshers. Any student accused of ragging

would be given a chance to explain his conduct and, if found guilty, will be straightaway expelled from the institute. Every

student and parent/Guardian has to compulsorily submit a signed affidavit............for

EVALUATION PROCESS (for all the institutes and courses) Evaluation of a candidate’s performance is a continuous process. To be recommended for the award of the diploma, candi­

dates are required to achieve a prescribed standard in the total course work, including both mid-term and end-term exami­

nations.

AWARD OF DIPLOMA The following are the requirements for passing the examination and award of the diploma:

• ATTENDANCE: Every student is expected to attend all the classes (not less than 75% in any case). No unauthoriz

absence from field placement is permitted.

• EXAMINATION: A student’s performance will be judged in the mid-term and end-term examinations. Every course

carries a maximum of 100 marks. The midterm exam includes assignments, class participation and written exams, whereas

the end-term includes written exams. To clear a course every student has to score a minimum of 50% marks.

SUMMER TRAINING • Summer training is an integral part of the course. The students are assessed on the basis of their performance during

summer training.

DISSERTATION AND INTERNSHIP • Every student is required to write a dissertation and an internship report. The students are assessed on the basis of their

performance in dissertation and internship.
