Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh,
Greeting for Global Youth!
There is a saying that goes The Youth are The Leaders of Tomorrow. It is very simple wording but
has deep meaning. We have to realize that the current leaders will not lead forever. There is
regeneration of leaders time to time. So, the future depends on the current youth. The youth that

The word Indonesia is coined from the latin
word Indos, which means India and Nesos, which
means Island. Both words mean Island of India, or island
existing in India. And even those two words are suitable with
Indonesias condition having 17,508 islands, in where about
6,000 islands are occupied which are stretching along 5,510
kilometers between Australia and the Asian continent and
divides the Pacific and Indian ocean on the equator line.
Indonesia comprises 34 provinces, has five big
and main islands, named Sumatera (473,606 km2),
Kalimantan (539,400 km2), Sulawesi (189,216 km2), Papua
(421,981 km2), and Java (132, 187 km2). These five islands
are occupied by about 70% of Indonesian People.
Geographically, Indonesia is also grouped into four specific territories. The first one is Sunda besar (big
sunda) consisting of Sumatera, Java, Kalimantan and Sulawesi. The second one is Sunda kecil (Small Sunda) comprising
smaller islands ranging from Bali island to the east territory. Third, Maluku Island covering all islands situated between
Papua and Sulawesi territory. The last is Papua, the island situated in the most eastern part of Indonesia (the Western half
of Papua New Guinea).
The capital city of Indonesia is Jakarta, a city with impressive histories and backgrounds. As the capital city
of the nation, Jakarta also plays the role as the governmental center, business and industrial hub. The city with 660
kilometers width is occupied by about 10 million people and now Jakarta is growing as the metropolitan city that reflects
the advancement of the nation economic, politic, social and industry.
Indonesia is the largest archipelago country in the world with a population of around 230 million
people. Across its many islands, Indonesia consists of distinct ethnic, linguistic, and religious groups.
The Javanese are the largest and the most politically dominant ethnic group.

Due to the fact that the Muslim youth nowadays are facing many challenges which encourage them to improve their
competency. But, according to the leadership point of view they havent been optimal in demonstrating the active role
in advancing the Islamic civilization and achieving the glory of Islam in the world. It can be seen from the low intensity
of Muslim youth activity to answer the problems of Islamic civilization and its deterioration. On the other hand, there
are many Muslim youth who are busy with their own targets, which is self oriented and doesnt reflect their basic
obligation as caliphs in the world.
This scourge can cause dissolution of future generation who are capable of leading the transition of Muslims, or what
we call "Lost Translation". As a result, the future of Islam may be in a slump.
To avoid that possibility, we on behalf of Al-Azhar Youth Leader Institute (AYLI) intends to conduct an activity which
not only able to raise the fighting spirit of Muslim youth but also give them provisions of leading the future Islamic
civilization through Leadership and Islamic Guidance. We perceive it as very important to hold Indonesia
International Leadership Camp as an event to train prospective young future leaders of Islam, with both theory and
applications. Thus, they could contribute to the development of Islamic civilization.
This leadership camp will not only provide theory about leadership and management, but also an understanding of
how important Al Quran and As Sunnah are as a living guide, how to read Al Quran (Qiraah) and martial arts as a
provision of self defense. In the end, we wish there will be Muslim youth who have Islamic fighting spirit and
knowledge and physical strength.

Leadership
To be leaders, we must understand and apply
the basic conceptual of what a leader is. When
we learn about leadership, it is not about having
as many followers as we can, but it is about
how we can be a role model for our followers.
Like Rasulullah SAW has taught us, a leader is
the man in the front who are sacrifices more
than the followers.
Management
When we already have good leadership characteristics, it is not enough. To manage
and control people and organizations we need tools. One of those important tool is
management. The kind of management that we will learn is the Strategic Management
Balance Scorecard system. It is the latest and most commonly used management
system in the multinational companies or even governmental organizations.
-
Communication
If you ever heard or read that long time ago we could find some leader that has good
speaking skill whom thousands or even millions of people would listen every time he
made a speech, it is because they have good communication skills. To be on that level,
we must understand what the people feel, what they want to be and what their needs
are. We must be good at listening. Thats why in the first theme we learn about building
a good listener in you.
Entrepreneurship
Entrepreneurship has a big relation to leadership, management and even
communication. So, the most important thing that we can get by learning and practicing
entrepreneurship is that we can applicate all skills of a leader.
Islamic
Islam teaches us to be good leaders. The Prophet Muhammad SAW has showed us how
to lead the ummah for more than 20 years. As Muslims, we must live with Al-Quran and
As-Sunnah as the guidance.

Testimonies
Mogammad Ammar De La Rey (Johaneshburg, SouthAfrica) IILC Participant 2012/2013
AYLI is my family. In December 2011 I met the most amazing group of people in Indonesia. They are the most friendliest,
loving, caring people you can ever find. When joining the leadership camp with AYLI I have learned many new things.
These things that I have learned included things that I will need to know in future and at present. I am very proud to say
that I have very wonderful family on other side of the world. Here in South Africa things are different. AYLI took really good
care of us South Africans when we visited their wonderful country. They provide us with whatever we needed and
whatever we wanted. I cannot wait to visit my family (AYLI) in Indonesia at the end of this year, INSYA ALLAH.
Afsal L. Apon (Suriname) IILC Participant 2013
Alhamdulillah, all the praises and thanks be to Allah, that I joined IILC. My stay in Indonesia was a whole other exciting
experience. Not only did I benefit from the training, but I made very great friends who always cared for me in the best way
possible. I now have a broader view of what leadership is and everything around. The things that I learned and practiced
at the camp is something that hopefully will help me further my studies, my life and insha Alloh becoming a great leader
someday.
The great thing about IILC is, that it is organized by only the youth and that is something that got me inspired. I certainly
take a sample of their encouragement and Im willingly to do the same in my country. Insha Alloh I would definitely go
again to the next IILC when I have the chance.
Hafizu Al-Ghifary (Indonesia) IILC Participant 2013
To be honest the Indonesia International Leadership Camp was a great training and event I have taken. During two
weeks, we gathered in one place from all over the world and united our mindset learning about leadership according to
Islam and western studies. It is really good for us as the youth to take part in such an event. We learned materials such
as students in college learn. So, what are you waiting for?
