Since last year, we have also taken up an initiative called “startup spotlight” which is a platform for up and coming startups to showcase their work during the Summit.

Each year, IES has had a theme and this year, it is “Evolution beyond Darwin”. Beyond Darwin’s evolution theory, stat-ing survival and consequent evolution of species with beneficial traits to sustain the living environment, entrepreneurship is also about moulding your environment to be beneficial to you. Apart from intelli-gent utilisation of opportunities, building opportunities from situations one is in is what a true entrepreneur should do.

The IIT-G Entrepreneurship Summit is an initiative of the EDC-IIT Guwahati and is aimed at inspiring the youth of North-East India and spreading Entrepreneurial fervour among them, this is our mission statement and our commitment to it is symbolically represented in the tagline for IES which is “Innovate - Escalate - Succeed”.To this end, during the two-day summit, we organize lectures, work-shops, and a panel disussions.

LECTURES

EDCEntrepreneurial Development Cell

The lectures at IES are intended to inspire, educate and set up critical thinking in the minds of students and budding entrepre-neurs. The invited speakers are usually of diverse backgrounds with expertise in various diverse fields. The lecture series brings together successful entrepreneurs –young and experienced, Industry veter-ans and Investors who inspire and impart valuable practical knowledge and know-how. Pitch It!

EDCEntrepreneurial Development Cell

This is the online business pitch event where teams prepare a short video about their startup or idea and submit it as their “pitch”. This event is further divided into two parts, one where the ideas are com-mercial while in the other the ideas belong to the realm of social entrepre-neuship. The judging of these “pitches” will be done by a panel consisting of mentors and investors who are actively involved with EDC-IIT Guwahati and stand a chance to get mentored and incubated.

This is the online case study competition wherein teams from all over India work on real problem statements given by start-ups and submit their plan of action. This event is aimed at educating aspiring entrepreneurs about the challenges faced by early-stage start-ups and hence forc-ing them to think how one can overcome them.

This is a daily online quizzing event where questions will be asked frequently which are aimed at educating aspiring entrepre-neurs about the life and times of some famous entrepreneurs of the world.

WORKSHOPS

Workshops at IES are designed to make you learn and to apply things that would aid your endeavours as a potential entre-preneur. These Workshops complement the Lecture Series of IES, that is in these workshops we emphasize on skills that can only be attained through practice and hence aim to instil confidence into the hearts of students and budding entrepreneurs. In the past, we have had workshops on "The Art of Persuasion" , "Inventory Management", a "Masterclass in Administration" and "Strategic Innova-tion Game" which is a real-time business simulation environment.

Two heads are better than one they say, just imagine the quality of an event where 6 such heads are involved, yes I'm talking about the Panel Discussion. It has been a tradition of IES where the invited speakers come together on one stage and engage in a superb debate which usually sees countless myths and miscon-ceptions of the audience regarding vari-ous business aspects busted, valuable insights thrown around for the benefit of the audience, key concepts emphasized which leaves the audience with new per-spectives. Some of the panel discussions in the past have been on "Nature vs Nur-ture", "Borrow or Bootstrap?", "Entrepre-neurship - can it be taught or only learned?"

Startup spotlight is aimed at introducing up and coming start-ups to the north-east where founders of these start-ups describe showcase their work. Last year, we have introduced this section into IES with participation from start-ups being mentored or incubated at IIT Guwahati and this year we wish to see participation from start-ups all over the country.

Last year we had a bunch of startups amongst which were TRIP ENGINEERS and PIC-A-BIT.

Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati's campus is on a sprawling 285 hectares plot of land on the north bank of the river Brahmaputra around 20 kms. from the heart of the city. With the majestic Brah-maputra on one side, and with hills and vast open spaces on others, the campus provides an ideal setting for learning.

Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, the sixth member of the IIT fraternity, was established in 1994. The academic pro-gramme of IIT Guwahati commenced in 1995.

At present the Institute has eleven departments and three inter-disciplinary academic centres covering all the major engi-neering, science and humanities disciplines, offering BTech, BDes, MA, MDes, MTech, MSc and PhD programmes.
