4-Tire Air System for ARB Twin Compressor (CKMTA12) Jeep JL Unlimited / JL / JT (2018 - Present)

Kit Contents: • 1 Mounting Plate for ARB Compressor

• 2 Seat Brackets (for Quick Connect Bulkheads)

• 2 Quick Connect Bulkheads

• 4 M6x16mm Button Head Bolts / Nuts

• 1 Quick Connect T-Fitting

• 1 16 inch section of Black Nylon Tubing (Passenger Side to Compressor)

• 1 54 inch section of Black Nylon Tubing (Driver Side to Compressor)

• 2 Double air lines (10ft) with 2 Y-Connectors and 4 Air Chucks

• 1 Quick Connect Plug

• 2 5/16” Ring Terminals for ARB Harness to Battery

Tools Required: • Small Flat Blade Screwdriver or Metal Paper Clip

• Drill

• ¼” Drill Bit

• ¾” Step Drill (depending on method of ARB harness install)

• Ratchet

• Extension

• T-45 Torx

• 10mm Socket

• 10mm Wrench

• 4mm Allen Wrench

• Adjustable Wrench

• Crimping Tool

• Heat Source (for shrink wrap on electrical connectors)

Other items that may be required (not Supplied): • 22-18 Gauge (Red) Female Spade Connector (for AUX switch panel wire to ARB Harness)

• 22-18 Gauge (Red) Female Spade and Ring Connectors and wire (red and black) (for sPod or

equivalent to ARB Harness)

• Mounting location for the supplied ARB Compressor Switch (if you do not have the AUX switch panel).

• 22-18 Gauge Wire (Red and Blue) may be required to extend leads on ARB harness for Power and Light on ARB switch, if used. Disregard if using AUX switch panel.


STEP 1 – Compressor Preparation

1-A) Place the compressor face down with the electrical connectors at top as shown in Figure 1. Bolt the two halves of the bracket to the compressor, noting the orientation, using the hardware provided by ARB. Use the holes indicated below. Before tightening, ensure the two halves are parallel.

1-B) Follow the instructions provided with the ARB compressor to rotate the outlet as far down towards compressor body as possible and install the provided T-Fitting as shown in Figure 2. This is really important since seat clearance is very tight. Get it over as far as possible! Ensure the T-Fitting is well tightened to ensure a good seal.

1-C) Install the ARB provided filters on back of compressor.


STEP 2 – Passenger Seat Preparation and Brackets Installation 2-A) Using a T-45 Torx remove the 2 rear bolts that secure the passenger seat in

the Jeep. 2-B) Carefully lift the seat slightly and slide the mounting plate under the seat

legs from the rear of the seat as shown in Figure 3. Bolt seat back in place and tighten seat bolts to factory specifications.

2-C) Use the two holes in each seat bracket as guide to mark the two holes

where it will mount to the leg of each seat as shown in Figure 4. Drill a ¼” hole at each mark.

2-D) Bolt each bracket to the backside of each seat leg (passenger and driver) with the provided M6 bolts / nuts. Then install the two quick connect bulkheads. For clearance and aesthetics it is best to leave the majority of the threads of the bulkheads on the backside of the bracket.

2-E) Remove the rear two screws from the center console as shown in Figure 5

after removing the small covers.

2-F) Fish the 56 inch section of Black tubing up and over the hump in the center

of the Jeep underneath the console. The tubing will need to go under the seat legs and emergency brake cable. Use Figures 6-9 as a guide as to where the tubing will end up going in and out. Placing something under the rear part of the console will help hold it up while fishing the tubing up and over. Note: Blue tubing is shown just for contrast to highlight location.

2-G) Lower console and reinstall the two rear screws when complete. 2-H) Connect the two sections of Black tubing to the quick connect bulkheads on

each side of the Jeep seats and then to the quick connect t-fitting on top of the compressor. Connect the driver side tubing (56 inch section) to the rear side of the t-fitting and the passenger side tubing (16 inch section) to the front side of the t-fitting (see Figure 10). Press the tubing in firmly until it bottoms out at all four connections. Secure the Driver side tubing to the back of the compressor with a zip tie.

STEP 3 – Wiring Harness Installation 3-A) Locate the 5-pin plug on the main wiring harness (NOT the 5-pin plug on the

compressor). Remove the plastic retainer from the back of the plug. Using a small flat blade screwdriver, or a paperclip, insert into the narrow side of each metal connector (see Figure 11) and pull out the wire from the back of the plug at the same time (there is a metal tab that locks each connector in place and the screwdriver will temporarily unlock the connector so it can be removed). Make sure you note the order, each location on the plug is marked with a letter. And you can always use the plug on the compressor as a guide later when reinstalling the wires.

3-B) Starting in the engine bay, run the ARB wiring harness down the narrow gap

near the rear of the battery, towards the fender (see Figure 12).

Please review Methods 1 and 2 completely on the following pages before proceeding to determine which one will work best for your application.


Method 1 (Passenger Side Drain Plug) 3-C) Start to route the harness down along the firewall and to the frame. Run it

along the frame until you get to the first floor plug. See Figures 13-14. Note: Inner fender does not need to be removed. It was just removed for photo. Make sure you route the harness away from the engine exhaust.

3-D) Remove the plastic trim along the floor on the passenger side. To do so, you will need to first remove the access panel to the door wiring harness plug (see Figure 15). Once removed, pull the plug assembly off (you do not need to separate the plugs, just disconnect from inner footwell). Use a 10 mm socket to remove the retaining nut (see Figure 16). You will then be able to remove the trim piece. Start at front, up in footwell. There are three clips holding in place on backside that will come loose by pulling trim piece in towards center of Jeep. The rear section can be unclipped by pushing the rear part (near seam) towards center of Jeep.

3-E) Lift up the carpet and locate the rubber plug in the floor just in front of the seat. Remove it. Cut a small round hole in it (just enough so you can pull the harness through it, but leave the hole small enough such that it maintains a good seal around the harness). Locate the ARB harness underneath Jeep and pull it up through the floor and start to feed it through the plug.

3-F) Reinstall the electrical plug you disassembled from the ARB harness in Step

3-A. Now go back to the engine compartment and attach the harness to the battery. Both positive wires should be placed in one of the provided connectors. Crimp and use a heat source to seal. Attach to positive terminal of battery. Tuck the two fuse holders behind the battery between it and the fuse box. See Figure 17. Use the second connector to connect both negative wires, except attach to the ground stud on the side of the fender (not the battery, it will not reach).

3-G) Once the ARB harness is connected to battery you can begin the process of

securing it. Starting at battery side keep working any excess harness down along fender and firewall. Secure the harness to firewall and along frame ensuring it is safely away from any pinch points and the exhaust. Continue to feed any excess harness along frame. Pull the remaining harness up through the floor plug and then work the rubber plug into the floor while keeping any excess harness top side. See Figures 18-19 for the final layout of the ARB harness.

GOTO STEP 4

Method 2 (Through Firewall) 3-H) Remove the plastic trim along the floor on the passenger side. To do so,

you will need to first remove the access panel to the door wiring harness plug (see Figure 20). Once removed, pull the plug assembly off (you do not need to separate the plugs, just disconnect from inner footwell). Use a 10 mm socket to remove the retaining nut (see Figure 21). You will then be able to remove the trim piece. Start at front, up in footwell. There are three clips holding in place on backside that will come loose by pulling trim piece in towards center of Jeep. The rear section can be unclipped by pushing the rear part (near seam) towards center of Jeep.

3-I) Lift up the carpet (it will make clean up easier after drilling). Locate the area up in passenger footwell on firewall shown in Figure 22. After ensuring clearance on front and back of firewall, drill a small pilot hole then open up to ¾”. Begin to feed the ARB wire harness from the engine compartment through the hole.

3-J) Reinstall the electrical plug you disassembled from the ARB harness in Step 3-A. Now go back to the engine compartment and attach the harness to the battery. Both positive wires should be placed in one of the provided connectors. Crimp and use a heat source to seal. Attach to positive terminal of battery. 3-K) Once the ARB harness is connected to battery you can begin the process of securing it. Starting at battery side keep working any excess harness down and through firewall. Secure the harness as needed ensuring it is safely away from any pinch points and the exhaust. Do not leave any excess harness in engine compartment. You will need as much as possible inside Jeep to reach compressor. Move to the inside of the Jeep and run alongside passenger footwell similar to what is shown in Figures 18-19. NOTE: Make sure test plug the harness into the compressor before you finalize where it is routed and is secured and adjust as necessary to ensure it will reach compressor.

3-L) Once complete we strongly suggest using silicone, expanding foam, or

equivalent to seal up the hole around the ARB harness in the firewall.

GOTO STEP 4


STEP 4 – Final Wiring 4-A) Plug the ARB harness into the compressor. Also attach the other smaller

ARB harness to the compressor then run it up along the edge of the Jeep up into the footwell. Insert the ARB wires into the ARB provided white plug as per the ARB instructions. Using a female spade connector, attach the Purple wire of ARB harness to one of the Jeep auxiliary switch wires (these are located in a small bundle of wires up towards the top of the footwell towards the firewall). We recommend using AUX 4 (Blue / Pink wire). See wiring diagram in Figure 24.

Brown / Pink AUX 1 (40 Amp)

Green / Pink AUX 2 (40 Amp)

Orange AUX 3 (15 Amp)

Blue / Pink AUX 4 (15 Amp)

Red / White Battery

Pink / Orange Ignition

Note: These same wires are also present in the engine bay. You can only use one or the other of any given wire (i.e. if you used the AUX 1 wire on the engine bay side then you cannot use that same wire inside Jeep).

Note: If using an sPod or equivalent you will need to connect the desired switch inputs to the smaller ARB harness with the white plug as follows:

sPod Positive to ARB Purple wire sPod Negative to ARB Black wire


4-B) Coil up the remaining smaller ARB wiring harness and position in a location that will be behind the plastic trim you removed earlier. Put the carpet back in place. Reinstall the plastic trim. Note: If any of the white retaining clips (there are three) remained attached to the side of the footwell when you removed the trim, remove them and insert back in the trim piece before reinstalling trim piece. Once the trim is snapped back into place reinstall the 10mm nut you removed earlier, snap the door harness plug back in place, and snap the remaining access panel back in place.

4-C) Follow the instructions in the Jeep manual to program the appropriate AUX

switch connected to the compressor.

STEP 5 – System Check 5-A) Plug each airline set-up into each side of Jeep (if you have the Air Down /

Air Up Tool, remove it from the system for now). Turn on compressor. It should run for a few seconds then shut off (when it reaches the pressure safety switch built into the compressor). The system should be able to sit for a few minutes without the compressor cycling. If after a few seconds or even a minute the compressor cycles you will need to check for leaks. The first thing to check is the t-fitting in the compressor to ensure it is tight. Once everything is ok, TURN OFF the compressor. Then push any one of the air chucks onto a valve stem to relieve pressure in the system, then the airlines can be removed from each side of Jeep.
