The Illinois Experiential Practicum for Autism is being offered by the Illinois Autism Partnership during summer 2017. A limited number of opportunities are available to apply prior learning and skills about Autism Spectrum Disorder in a guided practice, problem-solving environment. Participants work together as a team with five students of different ages and different support needs using a variety of evidence based practices, teaching strategies and methods. At the conclusion of the training week, teams participate in a self-assessment and action planning process for implementation during school year. Experiential coaches can be contracted to assist teams in post-practicum implementation, guidance and assessment of programming quality and parent education and involvement in their district throughout the year. In addition, Illinois Autism Partnership sponsors regional summits at different locations to offer opportunities for technical assistance and problem-solving among participants as they implement their learning. Schools and districts identify local coaches to provide instructional support and increase generalization of skills from the practicum experience to implementation in the classroom. This course qualifies for 35 Professional CPDUs or CEUs or 3 graduate college credit hours. > It is recommended that schools and districts form teams of 3-5 persons. > Recommended Team Members: administrator, teachers (general and special), related service professionals and experienced assistants. > Teams can include a parent (no registration fee for parent participant).
