LIBRARY NEWS

Welcome back to a great year in the Library. There will be a lot happening this year as we have big plans.  Firstly in a few weeks an Interactive White board will be installed and this will be a valuable teaching tool for Information Literacy. Later in the term we are revamping our non-fiction book shelving, which will provide much needed space for books.  One of the most exciting events for 2012's Library program and is a big event for libraries all across the country is that it is the National Year of Reading. Libraries all over Australia will be holding events to celebrate Love2Read! You can find out more at www.love2read.org.au.  To begin our celebrations the school is holding a 'Read Aloud Day' on World Read Aloud Day on 7th March 2012. On this day we are inviting parents of students in years K-2 to visit their child's class from 9.15am to read a book, poem, riddle or other short text of their choice to a small group. It may be your family’s favourite picture book  or you can come and choose a great book from our library.  In the years 3 to 6 students will be reading a text of their choice to the class, such as a picture book or passage from a novel, poem, riddle, joke or piece of factual information that they feel is worth sharing, such as, Did you know these facts about bananas?

The banana "tree" is not really a tree, but a giant herb. The banana is the fruit of this herb.

The cluster of bananas sold in supermarkets is a "hand" of bananas, while the individual bananas on the hand are called fingers.

The strings that go up and down the length of bananas are called Phloem Bundles. They help distribute nutrients to every part of the growing bananas.

The yellow bananas that are most often sold in supermarkets are sometimes called "dessert bananas" because they are soft and sweet. .... just a few from http://www.healthdiaries.com/eatthis/25-facts-about-bananas.html

The students of K-6W and K-6G will be celebrating Read Aloud Day on the 6th March as they are attending a swimming carnival at Homebush on this day. I do hope to have more news for you about this day as it draws near.

Looking forward to an eventful year in the library.

Hi Everyone!

Welcome back! I hope you all had a fabulous break.

I have some spots available on the roster and this year we are going to be giving out a monthly reward for those who volunteer. When you come in your name will go onto a raffle ticket and each month there will be a lucky draw for a pressie from a big basket of goodies for one lucky person. Even if you can’t do a definite day each month you can call me to pop your name down where you see a “Help please” on the roster.

A new menu will be out next week as we don’t get prior warning about price rises until we return to school. I will make it as painless as I can.

Thankyou
