A SUCCESS STORY:
5th graders picked up 1247 pieces on their campus. They identified plastic straw wrappers as the most common type of litter.
So the school stopped buying straws.

MATH
TECHNOLOGYFrom geotagging to timestamping to photo uploading, the Litterati application combines many technologies. Work with students to identify the various technologies and how they’re used throughout the Litterati experience.
Students can also brainstorm other existing technologies not currently being used, but that they believe would be helpful.
CREATIVE WRITINGTake 1 Litterati photo and write an essay on how that piece of litter ended up on the ground. Did someone purposely toss it? Blow out of an overflowing trashcan?
These types of questions and hypothesis lead to discussions around prevention and solutions.
MATHThere are all sorts of mathematical equations that can be done with Litterati data. For example, a class with 20 students does a 5 minute litter walk and picks up 300 pieces.
How many pieces would 30 students pick up in 10 minutes?
How many students would it take to pick up 1000 pieces in those same 10 minutes?
ARTArt exhibits and data displays can highlight the students’ impact within their own community.
