Morgan Library Today • Original building opened in 1965, addition in 1998

• 299,584 square feet, 2 million volumes, an over-subscribed computer lab, and limited study/tutoring/classroom space

• Provides services for ~25,000 students and 6,250 faculty/staff

• 1.3 millions visits a year

•But, crowded with students learning• 65% ‘prefer’ to study in Morgan

• It’s staffed – help is available• 17% increase over the past decade• Morgan seats 11% (2,570) of students

• ‘Standard’ is 20%

Summary – Libraries Must be Progressive!Morgan is very important to CSU – it is used heavily by students in all disciplines

Morgan renovation has student support – could be partially funded through the University Facility Fee

Low-interest stimulus money (see Section 9302(d)(1)(G) “Modernization, renovation, or repair relating to improving … libraries …”

Renovation endorsed by•The Library 2020 Task Force, and•The Library-IT Task Force Program plan has just been completed
