Martin, 35 years oldDIRECTOR PROGRAM MANAGEMENT MAJOR PROJECTS

We are very proud of the pioneering spirit of our team; the variety and complexity of tasks in this project demands a high level of expertise and a great level of engineer empowerment. The main benefit for the customers will be an accelerated product launching. All this makes this project very exciting.

David, 44 years oldHEAD OF AIRCRAFT MODIFICATION AND DESIGN ORGANISATION

AKKA’s added value is to bring a turnkey solution thanks to the DOA of Aeroconseil. Not only do we make installation engineering but we also ensure that the system is certified and is working. In certain cases we can also handle the supplying of the kits themselves. We have been working on this type of project for ten years now and during all this time we have acquired a unique experience.

A big airline company in partnership with Orange has set upon the challenge to make in-flight internet available on certain flights. AKKA Group, contacted by an operator of services French leading telecom, has first had to define the main certification requirements to be applied for the installation of the broadband antennae. The AKKA teams will install a WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network) and a Ku band antenna making sure at the same time that the system is being activated. The system must provide internet access by satellite to passengers and crew members. Passengers will be able to access internet but also their emails, while crew members will access, amongst other things, flight plans and flight operations.

Our international presence allows us to have access to all our clients’ suppliers, which is a major advantage, and the key to an assured success. A team of nearly 80 engineers developed a derived model of a famous European manufacturer’s vehicle. Our experts had to manage the overall project including the design, the mock-up, the DMU, the testing, the validation and the supplier management. After having made a first PMU and after the design phase was completed, our experts installed all the equipment (seats, safety belts, interior trimming, luggage compartments …) to check the assembly process, the time needed and the procedure, but also the necessary tools. The AKKA teams were also responsible for conducting the tests (especially the crash and endurance tests). They had to build an aluminium structure having the vehicle’s exact measurements, where the test equipment was placed. The AKKA Group will provide legal assistance for the launching of the production.

Mustapha, 30 years oldCIVIL ENGINEERING CREATOR

Having gained a Vocational Trading Certificate in Architecture in 2009 I had to pursue a career as a projector in the building trade. But after working for railway transportation groups, I knew that it was my career path. I thus joined the AKKA Group this year to work on a first project: the underground station Villejuif Louis Aragon (line 7). I am working on the project with two computing engineers, ly job involves drawing the structural works and the light work plans. It is a demanding job that requires rigour and strong technical skills.

For the development of the Grand Paris public transportation network (L15 south), RATP entrusted AKKA with a study of the required changes in order to make RATP network stations interconnected. Particularly at the Villejuif – Louis Aragon station on line 7 where an underground passage is being built under the rails to ensure the connection. The work involves making two new underground exits. The connection with the bus station will be made on the surface via roads that will be rebuilt around the railway station. A new access to the platform is being created from the RTGP station. This particular access, independent from the ERP spaces that we see today, will be set up at the extreme northwest of the existing platform. Communication between the two areas will enable people to access the platform via vertical means of circulation.

Samuel, 39 years oldPROJECT MANAGER

This project was a real challenge. In addition to the technical challenges that the team in charge of the design had to overcome in relation to the strong added value features, new work processes had to be invented. We had to start manufacturing the main parts half way through the development whilst continuing to integrate new operational and technical demands following the pre-sales contacts with potential clients. The team’s ability to prioritise tasks and to be reactive were key to the projects success. Delivering the vehicule on time was an extremely proud moment for everyone.

Developing a new military vehicle for the international arms industry in a very short lapse of time was a real challenge for the AKKA Technologies team. Fourteen months passed from the launching of the study to the presentation of the working prototype at “Eurosatory”, the international defence and security industry exhibition, fourteen months during which the AKKA Technologies team took part in the vehicle’s complete development.Adaptable and available in 7 versions resting on a single mobile platform, this vehicle guarantees a high degree of flexibility. From the troop carrier version to the electronic command system, the vehicle offers high-level services in terms of payload, integration of various mission and weapon systems, of mobility in an urban environment and of reduced maintenance time. Additionally, the vehicle guarantees crew survival rates that are at their highest and its excellent operational efficiency that rests on the new electronic combat architecture developed by this military vehicle manufacturer makes it one of the combat systems that are the most compatible with today’s military challenges, in an uncertain geopolitical environment.

They then ensured follow up of orders and management of teams who are based on-site and who interface directly with the civil engineering subcontractor. They also ensured timely delivery of the link that deals with the client’s internet connections in the area and its service launch.AKKA, together with this major French operator, plan to roll out the fibre in B2B in the Rhone-Alpes and south-eastern areas.

Christophe, 29 years old PROJECT MANAGER

After a long assignment as a pre-sales engineer inside the Operator Division of one of the major players in the telecommunication industry, joining AKKA Technologies allowed me to widen my skills on the fibre optics as a B2B deployment project manager in the Technical Division for companies. Managing subcontractors and field experts, I acquired the skills to carry out the procedure of connecting clients to internet from beginning to end and thus developed a sense of rigour, communication and compromise.

Thierry, 45 years oldDIRECTOR OF AKKA ENERGY

We have been chosen for our experience in the energy field. We have been involved in this domain for twenty years now and we have worked with major European players in all segments of the power sector: thermal, nuclear, wind and other renewable energy. We have established a relationship based on trust with our clients who ask us to help them manage the energy transition. It is absolutely fascinating.

Drawing on its expertise in the energy field, the AKKA Group together with one of its partners, is working on a project to modernise French thermal power plants put into use in 1980. In anticipation of the new environmental standards that will come into effect in January 2016 and also to ensure the safety of the production, EDF decided to invest 480 million euros to modernize three coal-fired power plants. This project, called “Coal 2035”, enters a new phase while work is achieved at the Havre and is in progress at Cordemais*. Renovating 1.800MW of coal units will help reduce pollution and its impact on the fauna and flora. Since the spring of 2015, the AKKA teams have been asked by the Thermal Engineering Centre to assist with the project management which includes a follow-up on the study of the suppliers and overseeing the execution of various projects, preparations, expert assessments, writing the specifications, consultation, analysing offers, planning, receiving companies onsite, monitoring the work (Quality Safety Environment), feasibility studies, but also a follow-up of costs and contracts.

* Cordemais is one of the main links of the French electrical network as, in addition to the two coal units producing 600 MW each, the plant also has two oil fuel units producing 700 MW. They make Cordemais the most powerful electric plant in France, producing 5.2 TWh each year, that is to say 25% of the annual consumption of electricity of the Pays de la Loire region.

The AKKA teams ensure all the studies for each of Doris’ integrations on a satellite as well as all its progressions. We take into account several factors such as the atmosphere, relativistic phenomena, astronomy and also the real-time. AKKA is carrying out a real research project being the subject of scientific publications each year.DORIS (Doppler Orbitography and Radio-positioning Integrated by Satellite) is an extremely accurate satellite positioning system. The measurements that it makes thanks to the signals from its 60 land-based beacons have many applications: space altimetry (meteorology, ecology, climatology like rising sea levels or global warming) satellite imagery, space geodesy (evolution of Earth-related phenomena such as tectonic plates, the shift of the Earth’s rotation pole or its centre, gravity field).

Soufian, 36 years oldPROJECT MANAGER

The client entrusted me with the project and I could manage freely the 12 people team composed of professionals from of all trades (production, quality, maintenance …). The Project Management golden Triangle (quality-cost-time) has been observed thanks to everyone’s commitment. I felt a great pride in carrying out this strategic project. It was an enriching adventure on the professional as well as on the personal level.

Following a need to increase the capacity of sterile production, a large pharmaceutical and chemical company asked AKKA Technologies to take the lead on large the whole turnkey project, from defining the user needs to the opening of this area (managing the project team, guaranteeing the quality, buying new equipment as well as guaranteeing the certifications, the worksite supervision including all trades coordination, increa-sing and remodelling the sterile area, writing the project validation plan, the specifications, the protocols / reports, the utility, premises and HVAC qualifications, etc.). In all, almost 70 people took part in the project to carry out the work, install the equipment and the utility network and certify all of these aspects.

Jean-Pierre, 42 years oldPROJECT MANAGER

Fifteen years ago the CNES (Centre national d’études spatiales) wanted to develop a satellite navigation system that would be directly on board and in real-time. AKKA, involved from the beginning, put innovation at the heart of this project in order to benefit from the latest models, algorithms and equipment: DORIS became the world’s most accurate real time navigation system. AKKA knew how to keep the R&T spirit and the client witnessed the interest of this project and our high level of involvement.
