• AFM = acute flaccid myelitis

• ‘Polio-like’ postviralmyelitis affecting motor cells

• Associated with recent viral infection (respiratory viruses, enterovirus, etc)

• Spinal cord ischemic stroke

• Abrupt onset, no preceding viral illness

• Primarily motor neuron loss, similar to AFM

• Key is diffusion restriction on DWI MRI
